Caution would be advised Richard Rider Richard scoffed audibly in his helmet as he rolled past a piece of smaller debris. He could ignore the smaller chunks of planet, they weren't going to cause too much damage even if they failed to burn up in the atmosphere. He looked all around him, whatever cataclysm had destroyed the planet had shattered it completely. Some pieces drifted harmlessly in the opposite direction of the inhabited moon below him, but not enough.
Even should you succeed in saving the moon, Richard Rider, resulting stresses due to the loss of the planet will render it uninhabitable within thirty rotations.Rider strained as he raised his arms and fired a concentrated blast of energy at a nearby chunk of planetoid, gritting his teeth as he poured everything he had into it it finally blasted into tiny thousands of little fragments. His visor advised that they would be small enough that they'd merely burn up in the upper atmosphere.
"Thirty rotations are still more than these people will get if I don't succeed. Status on the evacuation ships I've requested?"Due to the strain on resources, the best I can promise is that Nova Samaya will arrive within thirty one rota-"Not good enough."Well most everyone else in the Corps is either deployed to try and prevent the various star empires from wiping everyone out or investigating the threat that is targetting centurions.Richard winced as he, distracted, collided with a slab of stone. He pushed himself off it, following through with a blast for good measure.
"You didn't take me back because I'm like every other Nova out there. You took me back because I'm not. There was no response from Worldmind. That meant he was right. In all honesty, the fact that
someone was hunting down Novas scared the living daylights out of him, more so with the fact that it was a
someone and that they didn't even know who it was. It took a lot of skill to get one over on a sentient computer with thousands of years of history and experience to work from.
Looking directly up from the horizon line he shook himself back into the moment. The people of Lamentis-1 were counting on him, and Novas always step up. As a large section of the planet was coming towards him with frightening speed he near screamed as he raised both his hands towards it, the glow around him grew as he poured a concentrated energy beam into the piece of the planet. It split and cracked into various sizes, he zipped through space like a streak of light, occasionally he'd cast out a blast of energy to destroy a section and at other times he'd be close enough that he'd physically strike it to break it apart.
From the planet it looked like the most uncoordinated light show, and in space Richard felt like it was the most uncoordinated light show. Even with the Worldmind plotting and sending data to his visor it was all becoming too much for him to handle. Tremors rocked the ground below as more and more large chunks were getting passed him. It was times like this he wished that Graviton hadn't turned out to be a bad guy, if Richard could have had access to him right now this would already be over.
Or if there were enough Novas to go around. When he had first become a Nova Centurion, border incidents were virtually non-existent as the Corps could do a show of force instantly. These days it took all the man-power they had, which left crises' like these unattended. If it wasn't for Richard.
Incoming vessel. The visor highlighted a ship, a Nova Corps Starcruiser, not just any. Richard recognized the markings on it, it had been the ship belonging to Rhomman Dey. The Nova who had entrusted Richard with his powers.
"I thought you said there wasn't any help coming."Richard did an inverted loop over a piece of the planet, blasting it as he leveled himself back off. Meanwhile weapon systems all over the ship came to life blasting various chunks.
There is not, however as Rhomman Deys successor you have access to his vessel whenever you need it. While you did not make a direct request, it was implied."So you're telling me I could have asked for the ship anytime since joining the corps?"Correct.Well, that was good to know.
"How many living inhabitants are still left on the moon?"Approximately twenty-five thousand.
