Current I think watching fight scenes can help in general terms with writing combat, since it can give you an idea of flow and choreography.

At least if you're writing something you know, with knights.
I mean, depends on what you're writing, and the tone and theme of what you're writing. Trained armored knights were legitimately monstrous on the battlefield, so looking up how they fought helps.

As much as there's a lot of reasons twitter sucks, I genuinely don't want to see it die for the sake of all the artists who now rely on it. Hoping the shithead stops trying to directly administrate.

"Proud? Of course," Elroy responded, still smiling, "I'm not even sure if our parents could be more proud of Velvetica."

This, too, gave Velvetica pause. Her inspiration to pursue swordplay, to pursue her path as the Steel Princess, had been because of her elder brother. To hear those words come out of the mouth of the man she almost idolized momentarily stole her ability to speak.

It took her a few moments to clear her through and speak again, unconsciously holding the knightly frog plush against her chest as she did.

"Well, I am quite pleased to hear your profession of loyalty," she began, swiftly dodging every other topic that had been discussed to avoid any further awkward pauses, "It is only suitable, though you are not among the military forces of the Lions, that you have committed yourself to our cause. I'm glad to know that I can count upon you for the sake of Velt and its people."

Of course, internally, she was hardly unaware of who she was speaking to. She did not assume Lirrah to be a boldfaced liar, but she was a merchant. And a merchant wanted to build a relationship with their clients to maximize profits. It wasn't something she begrudged the nem for, far from it. Rather, it was something to be aware of. To understand that Lirrah's commitment was to the option that would earn her more librans rather then simply loyalty to the Hraesleg name.

Still, the nem's conduct had thus far suited her fine, and there was little reason to reject it.

"So, my little sister resembled the Lady of the Sun, hm?" Elroy commented, "I suppose that does suit her, doesn't it?"

While she idolized her elder brother, that didn't stop her from questioning that comment. Normally she would gladly take such praise as to be compared to the Goddess of the Sun, for whom justice was paramount, but his tone struck her as somewhat playful.

"Exactly what do you mean by that, elder brother?" Velvetica asked, an eyebrow raised.

"Oh? Can't you figure it out?"

@Octo

"Hm?"

Ah, so this was the viewpoint of an assassin. She didn't have explicit knowledge of exactly what the Crownsblades had been party to prior to their near total destruction, but it was plenty reasonable to assume that their operations had been rather less forward in nature. Focused on striking at quieter, more internal enemies then those without. Provided that they were enemies of Velt, and its people, Velvetica had little issue with such objectives.

Those who threatened Velt's stability and the peace of its citizens were not those who garnered her sympathies.

However...

"Well, my enemies are far more open, and far more straightforward, then you are perhaps accustomed to," she responded, leaning forward in her seat, "My opponents are of a military nature, rather then those who work in the shadows."

Her elbows rested on her desk.

"But that doesn't mean I won't require your skills as an assassin," she continued, "Pinpointing an enemy commander ahead of time gives me quite an opportunity, after all, to shatter the enemy's morale and remove their leadership. A troublesome mage makes for the perfect target, as well."

Using an assassin to remove problematic or high-value targets made perfect sense to her, and she had little attention of using Kayliss's skills for any other purpose.

"Architecture?" asked Liletta, incredulously, "I'm the Hraesleg family's mage, do I look like I have particular experience in architecture?"

It was clear she hadn't the faintest idea of why that question had come up in the first place. Why would she know how to build a cottage? On top of that, she'd already been in a bad mood because of the do-

Anisette's tongue was sticking out as Gisela patted her head.

"... Tch..."

Liletta's glare sharpened.

"Fine, if you want to be a bratty little child," she glared at the doll, who folded her arms and looked away, "All I was trying to do was learn more about you. That doll is completely impossible to work with. She came from a Witch? I'm not surprised in the slightest."

Fio could already feel the heat from here.

There was no doubt what the dragon was about to do.

Fine. She'd blow it up right in the beast's face.

"Sura!"

The magical energy she had been channeling to form her second barrage of blades twisted, the half-formed swords dissolving and twisting inwards.

Then it spread, expanding, reforming and sliding outwards into the shape of circular barrier, diamond patterns spread across its lumisncet blue surface, reaching towards its hexagonal edges.

"Intercede!"

Flicking her blade forwards, the barrier rushed forward as well, thrusting itself directly into the serpentine dragonkin's face. It was unlikely it would be harmed by its own flames, but a faceful of fire certainly wouldn't be good for it either.

"Reinforce! Reinforce reinforce reinforce!"

And that wasn't all. Each cry of reinforce poured further mana into the barrier, strengthening it again and again. She'd maintain it, shut down the dragonkin's fiery breath, and leave it open for a counterattack!

With the EINHERJAR pilots deployed in the clearing, all that was left was to split up and head to their targets. For Valika and the rest of the demolitions team, this meant the main base of operations.

For the team targeting the communications array, this meant a trip a bit further north.

Ultima Universal Himinbjord Base

It was common for most quickly-established corporate bases to be assembled largely from prefabricated building materials. In this case, there was no exception. While it was built partially on top of some practically-leveled war-era ruins, there was nothing worth attempting to salvage from them. As a result, all that could be seen was a clustered of sterile, white buildings made of equally sterile materials. Towards the center was a larger, domed building, likely their main destination where the package they were seeking lay.

But first, it was demolitions time.

The mass-produced MAs being used by Ultima Universal were squat, typically armed with a single main weapon and a single shoulder-mounted armament. They were comparatively cheap and it was easy to make a lot of them, but the tradeoff was that they weren't as sturdy as their chunky appearance would imply.

A pair were currently just beyond the treeline.

Valika smirked.

They hadn't picked up on them yet.

MORDRED's sensors highlighted both targets, but she wouldn't need any kind of lock for these guys.

What was more important was the more distant targets her readout was picking up. At least six heavy kinetic projectile cannons and one light rail cannon. From their placement, she could at least be certain they were capable of targeting her all at once, but you'd have to be an idiot not to be aware of them in the first place.

But first.

"Time to take out the trash~"

The LA5678 in MORDRED's hands was leveled, aiming directly for the nearest MA's center mass. Right for its drive core.

"Aaaand... boom!"

She felt the air warming around her, the hiss and snap of the beam rifle's fire as a purple-pink burst of light suddenly rent its way through the air.

The unfortunate pilot didn't have a moment to respond, likely only realizing something was occurring when the beam was suddenly searing through their machine's armor, a ring of white-hot steel forming around the growing hole as it pierced right to critical systems.

Fire erupted from the burning wound, then tore its way through the MA's chest, before a larger explosion rocked the machine and left it toppling to the ground.

"What the-shit!"

She picked up the other corpo pilot's response to the sudden attack as MORDRED went rolling down the hill, boosters roaring to life as she jerked her control stick, her LUNALIGHT saber humming to life with a blue-white glow.

The second pilot took aim, but he was far too slow.

Her Beam Saber punched right through the MA's frontal armor, directly through its systems. She could practically feel the drive breaking down, and she pulled back quickly as flames erupted from the machine.

"That's... All Ultima Universal forces, we are under attack! I repeat, we are under attack!"

She picked up their communications again, and it was pretty much what she'd expected.

It's not like there was any point in trying to be subtle when they were here for a smash and grab, right? Already, her readout was picking up more MAs rolling into view.

No problem.

Ultima Universal Communications Array

The communications array was dominated by a large parabolic antenna, standing over an assortment of smaller prefab structures and other systems relating to long-range communication.

Its detectable defenses were pair of MA squads, composed of a about ten of the mass-produced machines each, as well as at least three heavy kinetic projectile cannons. There was an assortment of smaller vehicles and light cannons as well, but those were far less threatening to a well-equipped AUG.

It was a little surprising it was so lightly-defended, but perhaps they weren't expecting it to be attacked?

Or maybe further defenses weren't so readily detectable.

Okay I just really, really, really want to apologize for the delay. I'm actually having a bit of a hard time setting up this next bit, I'm not suuuuper familiar with GMing in sci-fi/militaristic settings and that's starting to hit me now.

I'm not trying to make excuses, this delay is pretty shameful on my part as GM, but I just want to let everyone know what's going on and that one way or another I am going to try and push something out to try and get this going and get over my personal failings here today.
"I..."

Fanilly trailed off. Was she taking this from the wrong angle? She did need to speak with the Mage's College, that was for certain. They were the ones who had apparently had the shard in the first place. But she'd never set foot in the College before. The idea of attempting to do so was rather daunting. But surely, surely, they would want to help locate such a dangerous artifact, especially when they'd possessed it in the first place, right?

On top of that, Veilena had clearly been willing to assist, given that her own plans to recover the shard had fallen through. Could she know what was going on?

"Ah, Sir Steffen, hello," she greeted the ingvarr knight, remembering herself, "I... hm. I... I'll have to arrange for meetings with the College and with Lady Veilena."

It only made sense. She'd been handling this from the wrong angle from the outset, hadn't she. But that wasn't all.

Sir Gerard had noted her other concern, after all.

"Sir Gerard is right, it's just just understanding what might be going on with the stolen shard," she added, "But stopping any other shards from being collected. If there's any other pieces of Angroron in Thaln, we can't let them fall into the enemy's hands. So... I want to try and find out where the others might be."

Ended up delaying a bit more than intended but both my update and the discord server(finally) will be up tomorrow.
It wasn't just the green-haired girl and the injured siblings. It was a lot of people. And some green figure Lily didn't understand, they were armored? But they weren't shaped like a person, nor like a monster created by the blight. She didn't get it at all, but right now she couldn't pay attention to that when so many things were happening.

The girl her age was at least no longer suffering from the poison, so she was happy she'd been able to help.

The Umbral Knight nodded at the boy's words.

"Raven Heralds..." they commented, "A grim name."

Lily found her eyes drifting towards the knight, who nodded. They knew what she wanted.

"She removed the poison from your sister's wounds," they explained, before shifting gears, "My oath is with her, and so I shall fight for you. Until you can receive further medical attention, move as far back into the chapel as you can."

Lily gripped at the hem of her skirt.

She could hear them outside. She could hear the door ripping off its hinges. It was frightening.

But she'd faced awful things. And she didn't want the little girl or her brother to get hurt any more then they already were.

So, she had to do something. Even if it most certainly meant she had to fight.

Her blue eyes turned to the Umbral Knight again, who nodded.

"Our enemies are certain not to be monsters created by the Blight," they said, "You should turn away."

Lily hesitated for a few moments, before slowly shaking her head.

Their enemies---

She didn't really know what this meant. But if she looked away, then she couldn't direct her spirits, her friends. She couldn't keep track of what was happening.

If she really wanted to help, she couldn't do it.

She couldn't look away.

"Very well," The Umbral Knight turned, tattered cape flowing behind them, "Not a single Raven Herald shall enter this place."

As Lily advanced closer to the doorway, she was able to allow the Umbral Knight to do so as well.

And as soon as they reached it---

The Knight sprang forth, reaching the fallen door where it had pinned a soldier to the ground, several others scattered about it, landing on it and slamming it down firmly on the enemy beneath. They were in dark armor, a dull purple, largely composed of leather and bearing wicked masks upon their faces.

The Knight perhaps considered that was a blessing, as the monstrous visage would distract Lily from the true nature of their enemy.

Their blade swung in an arc, an arm and a head severed in the very first moment before the Raven Heralds could even react.

Lily's hands clenched. Her heartbeat quickend. She'd seen blood before, but these enemies were different then those suffering from the Blight.

The body had yet to fall before the Umbral Knight twisted their frame, a diagnal slash hewing its way through the throat and chest of a second Raven Herald.

But their blade was stopped, at least for a moment, when it struck the shield of a third. Wood and steel...

It wouldn't be enough for her.

Lily was frightened. But she knew that the Umbral Knight's sword wasn't able to cut through something like that so easily.

Before the enemy could retaliate, the knight simply vanished, the red light of their spirit form returning to her side.

And in the very same instant, a great hammer raised.

Its wielder, in spite of her gray skin and crimson eyes, was still quite beautiful, wearing a nun's habit with a pair of feathered wings extending from her back.

Guardian Silva wordlessly brought the hammer crashing down, shattering the shieldbearer's arms, cracking the wooden shield in half, and crushing his chest cavity in a single blow.
