The Thugs

Interactions: Tanithil @Lava Alckon, Ismael @Th3King0fChaos Amisra@Tae Arlen @Silverpaw Drosis @Blizz
Location: Alleyway in Port Vanarosa

With a glint in his eye, the leader chuckled at Tanithil’s statement. Swiftly formulating a counterattack in his mind, he shot a nod toward the other dark elf, accompanied by a smug smirk. "As far as I'm concerned, all we're dealing with here is an easy win," he declared with confidence.

Without hesitation, the short dark elf suddenly sprang into action. Without a moment's hesitation, the agile and compact dark elf sprung into action, his blades gleaming menacingly in each hand. He propelled himself forward, closing the distance between him and Tanithil in a blur of speed. He made his strikes toward Tanithil in hopes of disarming him.

Meanwhile, the towering green orc, initially ready to join the assault, was caught off guard as a projectile unexpectedly struck him on the head. Momentarily stunned, he paused, his massive green hands instinctively catching the flying object—a potato. He stared at it for a moment before shifting his gaze towards the source of the interruption, a female voice nearby.

He stared at it before shifting his gaze on Amisra, “Uhh boss. Looks like they has some friends.”

Reacting sharply, the leader's expression turned more severe as he snapped a response. "More to kill. Don't waste time!"

Regaining his confidence, the orc burst into motion and made his aim for Amisra. He raised the potato and crushed it in his hands as pieces burst all over the ground beneath them. After that, he raised his axe and shouted as he came toward her, “I’m gonna CRUSH your pretty head in my hands, potato girl!” His loud, high-pitched voice rang through the air. He charged towards Amisra with rage in his eyes he was ready to swing his axe when he got into range.

As Ismael's spinning back kick landed squarely on the fairy's torso, the impact sent the man hurtling backward through the air. Momentarily disoriented, the fairy struggled to regain his balance mid-flight, his wings fluttering frantically. He did a double-take then raised his hands as vines began to slowly but stealthy emerge from beneath the stones beneath their feet, breaking through the cracks. The tendrils twisted with purpose, their aim clearly to ensnare Ismael in their grasp and immobilize him. But it was about then a bullet grazed past his head with a loud whizzing noise.

Startled, the fairy's attention was abruptly diverted, causing the progress of the vines to halt, with them wrapping around Ismael's ankles but no further. The fairy quickly glanced over his shoulder, wild-eyed and searching for the source of the bullet. After not initially finding the shooter, he urgently barked over to the leading dark elf, “Get the one with the big ears. We have a coward hiding amongst us!” With a determined glare and gritted teeth with resolve, he ascended upward and began to scan his yellow eyes along the walls of the buildings in search of Arlen. He decided to move into the shadows as well and make it a little more difficult for another clear shot.

Equipment:Sword, hunting knife, a backpack with supplies, and a stoat named Raze who naps in the pocket of his vest.

Bowyn only shook his head at Rue’s response, youth was not a good enough reason to give the elf a pass. He didn’t need to point that out to Rue though, they’d both been in this too young, had enough missing pieces between them to be constant reminders of youthful mistakes and failed missions. They couldn’t have mistakes now. A new elf, a young one, was a mistake. They needed people they could rely on, people already ready to put everything on the line for Avalia, and surely Mister Luum could see that.

“You should know better than anyone what’s required to keep a secret from being told by another.”

As Rue’s attention focused on comforting Bardulf, Bowyn focused on what Luum was saying. Good, at least Luum’s not entirely crazy. Only one way to keep a secret-

“But as a group, we are quite bad at killing, so I have a better idea! Zeva…”

Dammit Luum. But Bowyn couldn’t entirely fault Mister Luum for it, if Zeva were a young fae rather than an elf, he’d probably side with Luum on making the risky choice here.

“Not all of us are bad at killing.” Bowyn announced back, looking from Mister Luum to Zeva. “Doesn’t have to be a group effort.” He offered further, and paired it with a smile, almost like it was a joke. He left Rue with Bardulf and the pegasus and headed towards Luum and Zeva.

“Don’t Luum sweet talk you, this isn’t a game. Gonna have a whole lot more than your parents to worry about if you follow us.” Bowyn spoke directly to Zeva, not a threat, just a warning. “Bowyn, proud traitor, and passable healer. So save the bandages and hold still a moment.” He introduced himself and placed a cold hand on Zeva’s shoulder above the wound. If she held still, the wound would heal in a matter of seconds.

“Saving Avalia means ending dark elf rule, facing things a lot worse than death or disappointed parents, and it’ll probably cost you more than you think. So really think about it, this is not an easy path, not a whimsical adventure, and there is no room for doubt where we're headed.” If Luum was bringing someone new in, Bowyn wasn’t going to let them join without knowing what they were getting into.

Time: Breakfast time!
Location: River Port; Malachi’s mom’s house
Interactions: Malachi@princess, Jun@JJ Doe, Enstille@GingerBobOh, Kenia@Tae
Equipment: A halberd, (always with him) hunting knife, and half-plate armor (left in the room).

“Maybe more than a bit shy.” Zion corrected, as Enstille offered an even stranger introduction than Jun had, but still not as rude as Malachi’s.

The lion’s ears perked and turned towards the elf who shared his appreciation for building up bridges. “You are delightful, Kenia!” The young lion’s enthusiasm stretched to accommodate the lack of it from the others. He made room in the kitchen for the treats Kenia had brought before offering her a plate to pile up with food. He watched Enstille eyeing a fork from where he sat and Zion brought it to the elf. He paused to see what Enstille was doing to the eggs. He watched the strange slimy things being carefully pulled from the mass of scrambled eggs until he realized what it was. Horrified, Zion’s ears flattened.

“Is that onion in the eggs?” He whispered Enstille while holding out the fork. He glanced at Malachi who seemed distracted by a conversation with Jun and was probably not listening. He nodded to the wise Enstille who had discovered Malachi’s plan to sneak vegetables into good food. Disgusting. Messing with the eggs like that.” His tail flicked. Zion was certainly not going to be eating the foul slimy things either.

“Kenia, are you from River Port or just vacationing here?” He asked, attention turning back to the guest. He did want to get to know her better but he was more eager to see if she had grabbed breakfast so that he could now finally eat as well. He left the fork with Enstille, either placing it on his plate or handing it to him if he was not too lost in his thoughts.

Rue turned to stare coldly at Mister Luum with a downcast gaze. He wasn’t exactly wrong, but she wouldn’t tolerate a stranger endangering their human. If she had to kill to protect the group, especially Bowyn and Bardulf, then she would. Seeing death and bloodshed had caused her to grow numb. She paused twirling her polearm to settle it beside her, then flapped her wings to gain momentum. Higher and higher she flew until she seated herself onto Starfire’s back. Instead of replying back like Bowyn had (which she admired), Rue kept her thoughts to herself and watched intently, her polearm now resting at her side.

As the conversation continued, She predicted what Mister Luum would say, so she wasn’t surprised he’d invited the suspicious elf along with them. With a sigh, she watched the scenario play out, and glanced at Bowyn with irritation. As he addressed the elf girl, she chuckled lightly, despite the morbid subject. ”You may end up losing your parents and those dearest to you. Perhaps a limb. Your life?” she added, hoping it might disway her, despite her seeing Bardulf.

Speaking of which, his voice broke her reverie, and she turned to face him. Sympathy for the young human captured her heart. She reached down to put her hand on his shoulder and rubbed it comfortingly. ”I’ll be ready when you are, Bardulf. Like a snowflake from the sky, I’ll catch you.” Rue told him gently. His remark on moving away caused her to glance around suspiciously and ready her polearm in case of any danger. ”We need to get out of here now. Bardulf, please stay at our side.”

Now Zeva spoke up, and Rue glanced in her direction menacingly. She listened to her and glanced down at Mister Luum and Bowyn. Rue pinched the bridge of her nose. It was unlikely she would become their foe, but it would be wise to keep an eye on her, but both options irritated her. When she stumbled, Rue’s expression softened, noticing the signs of dizziness. However, Bowyn beat her to it, and she sighed in relief. Rue remained quiet and out of the conversation, and glanced around to see if anyone else had seen Bardulf’s magic.

Mister Luum listened to everyone wearing a misplaced expression of delight. He gave a nod here and there as if everyone was making excellent points regardless of what they may have said. This is good! This might be the most any of them have spoken in one go! As wary of and weirded out by her Mister Luum was, he simply had to have Zeva accompany his group.

After Bowyn and Rue's words of caution in taking part in their little slice of rebellion, he took the chance to speak while Zeva was being healed by Bowyn's magic.

“I like this. A little bit of good elf, bad fairies. A volatile combination of bright optimism and icy pessimism!” He almost sang in a cheerful voice. He looked over to each member of the group including Starfire nodding continuously as if they were all on the same page.

“Despite the threats of lost limbs or worse, what my friends are meaning to say is ‘chew the succulent meat and spit out the bone!’ Quit worrying about the bad. Your parents will be proud of all the good you'll accomplish.” Mister Luum winked before conjuring up a brilliant white orb of light magic above a raised index finger. He made it seem as if he had said something profound.

“You, Zeva… you can be my… apprentice. The third student of the School of Luum! I'll teach you everything I know. I'm almost middle-aged and haven't lost a limb or wings or my mind or my freedom so I have the world quite figured out if you ask me.” Mister Luum nodded his head toward, Bowyn, Bardulf, and Brigitte respectively as he mentioned losing things. “Just a staff…” He murmured under his breath with a bow of his head until he piped right back up!

“But don't keep us waiting. We need to go and quite quickly. Oh!” He turned to Bardulf. “And a splendid job at being right! We definitely need to leave! I do not wish to be arrested for murdering that owlbear. My record is quite bad as it stands.”

All that had transpired had become a hazy blur and darkness. The guardian wolf's last memory being Phia's blurry face then blank that went on for an unforseen amount of time as whatever smidgeon of consciousness he was able to maintain felt as if trapped in a bubble within a void.

None of his senses seemed willing to cooperate save for one and the one sensation the badly injured wolf would prefer be rid of. For all Menzai felt was pain; there wasn't a single part or bone in his body not screaming in pain, aches or any other form of discomfort with the only bit of relief afforded him was the loss of his left arm. (Which he was still not wholly privy to yet)

To make matters worse was the intense rumbling coursing through the ground beneath them and with Menzai essentially blind, he could only fret and worry on what was going on. Was Phia ok? The brothers? Did it get to them or...

A thought Menzai refused to let go any further for fear of losing what shreds of sanity left held him together in this moment. And yet, even through all the pain it was frustration and concern that burned through him and it was through such strong feelings that kept alive long enough for his dear sister to find his mangled though a small part of him preferred to spare the sweet fairy such a grisly sight.

Then, from nowhere and without warning, a sensation on his head; something warm and gentle moving him causing him to let out pained grunts and cough sending out small sprays of blood as dried droplets caked the corner of his lips, better to stay there was hardly an orifice blood hadn't trickled out from his face. The movement had been excruciating; a level of pain sure to have any other screaming and hollering in a way that could be far and wide, but Menzai allowed nothing more than the paint grunts and low pants for as much pain he was in, it was he accepted willingly to spare Phia and the others this fate.

A very faint and dull warmth could soon be felt by the barely conscious wolf and at first it made the aches flare leaving him shifting in discomfort. Then a trickle of relief streamed through his body; flowing and soothing him with its medicinal doping powers of healing. A sensation all too familiar and easily recognizable and merely feeling these healing powers got his shaky erratic breathing to settle back to normal.

" P-Phi..Dan...Dar...are...ok...all?" He tried to ask, wanting to make sure everyone was ok and to find out what the situation was. A pointless thing to do at the moment with his ears still deaf and ringing. Even trying to speak had put him through immense pain leaving him unable to do anything else but lie there in darkness both figuratively and literally. How humiliating this was for the newly named guardian, who did nothing more than shame the title and himself.

Just then, something loud could be heard slamming down (albeit nowhere near the level of what the roc produced) as the small dust cloud formed by the huge double-sided battle axed slowly dispersed. Before long, Ulyses was revealed, his right hand resting atop the bottom base of his axe which was nearly as big as he was, though a serious, grim expression overtook the usual bearded grin the huge battle scarred wolf normally wore.

" Hmph, looks like we arrived a tad too late." The man scoffed, a hint of disappointment at missing an opportunity to scrap with a Roc, whom he could seeing lifeless in the background, but his attention was kept on the small group before him; anger flashing in his eyes upon catching a glimpse of Menzai of Phia who were a bit off to the side so they weren't in clear view, but enough for him to tell he was in a perilous state. The strong smell of blood a major indicator especially.

Turning his gaze away, fearing any longer and he would lose himself and attack the first thing to give him excuse to lash out. His powerfully built body trembled gently beneath his clothes as those sharp predatorial eyes turned to the unkown traveler's; taking note the lack of visual on Dante and Darius." I can tell this is very difficult situation all around, but until we can properly figure out this whole situation, I will have to ask everyone here to stay where they are." Ulyses stated this, a demand that was followed by another heavy thump of his axe as a warning, particularly to Cyrus and Viola who gave off some very unsettling vibe and scent that nearly had the experienced wolf heckled and on alert.

Remaining quiet to let his words and warning to linger on the air, adding to the tension in doing so. Then his lips pursed where he let loose a long, shrill whistle; following the signal, numerous figures robed in black appeared standing in the trees all around the clearing where pairs of canine eyes glinted within the shadows.

Studying the area a bit more before using his left hand to make a beckoning motion and seconds later a robed wolf appeared at his side on his knee in a bowed position." Jin, do me a kindness and gather up a group to find those raucous brats and bring them to sweet Phi quickly as possible."

Jin lowered his head with a nod and single curt." Sir!" Jumping away and vanishing as if never there.

A wary sigh left his frowning lips as he looked towards Phia." Apologies sweet Phi. You already got your hands full as it is." And it pained him that she had to see Menzai like this, a broken mess. He could only hope this would not break him like the last cruel incident nearly had.

The aged wolf wanted nothing more than to de-escalate the situation and comfort, but it was his job to get to the bottom of this and find out how things led to this.

As such, his attention turned back to the two who were an unknown variable." Quite the unfortunate timing. Just as we get visitors only for it to be followed by such an attack. One can't help but wonder and be suspicious of these unknown travlers."

A faint grunt as the huge, burly wolf lifted the axe up with one arm and lifted it to rest across his right shoulder with ease as he stood, ready to fight." I will give our guests one chance. Explain the reason for your presence here and I do advise you speak honestly. Lie..." With a strained grunt he gave a quick swing of the axe with a single swipe of his right arm in the direction to the right of him as several trees collapsed shortly after, giving a visual example of what will happen to those that try to play around.

As the Roc fell, Cyrus turned first to check on Viola. Her wounds all appeared shallow, punctures from the Blood Rose’s thrones, but nothing that required immediate attention. He did not have a full understanding of what Viola’s bond with the rose entailed, and so he would not heal the damage the rose caused unless asked. “Well done sister, you alright?” He spoke, more or less ignoring the large wolf that had appeared. He could address the wolf once he knew his sisters were alright.

Then looked around for Phia, she too was safe, healing the badly injured wolf. He wore a proud smile as he watched the sort of person his sister had become. “Ah, Phia is alright too.” He spoke to Viola, nodding his head towards their younger sister. Now how were the two, probably not, elves?

The burly wolf with the axe was speaking again, and unnecessarily chopping down trees. Cyrus gave a sad sigh, “...Or else you’ll continue to murder innocent trees, in a forest that’s just been through a massacre?” Cyrus asked, gesturing around the shattered forest.

“I’ll assume you’re not implying that the Roc was somehow under our thrall, that would just be silly.” He pointed out and walked without caution through the mess of broken trees and scattered earth. He rested a hand on a large jagged stump. “This one was very old, a great loss.” He spoke to himself, as he studied the damage. Too many broken trees, even if he hadn’t spent so much mana on the Roc, it was far beyond what he could fix.

“I am Cyrus, my friend, now no longer an unknown. And I believe my sister and I are now guests of Phia’s. Or business, however, is very personal, not something I will discuss here.” He spoke calmly, only half paying attention to the wolf as Cyrus continued to search among the wreckage until he found one tree he could fix. He placed a hand on the tree until new growth replaced all the tree had lost. This tree would remember the others. It was the best he could offer the forest. “It is a sensitive matter, best discussed privately, with whoever is in charge.” He added.

With the Roc now dead, the roses' thorny vines made sure to take their time draining every last drop of blood from it's corpse. With the threat now gone, the vines embracing Viola also loosened their grasp, making the small holes in her skin apparent for a brief moment, before the vines adjusted themselves, carefully covering them and delicately applying some pressure by using parts of it's vines that have no thorns. Completely unfazed by the puncturing wounds left behind by the rose's thorns, Viola watched with a satisfied expression as the rose fed itself with the Roc's blood.

"We are fine. Thank you, brother." Viola said, turning to Cyrus with a smile, before she continued watching the rose feed itself.

Even though the Blood Rose was considered a dangerous predatory plant from Daka Island, the bond it had with Viola was indeed a curious one. The fact that it seemed to care enough about Viola's well being to cover her wounds and be sure she was comfortable meant that it considered her more than just a host, similar to how a parasitic life form would. In return, Viola seemed to care about the plant with great care and attention.

"She was always very kind... Always helping others... Considering their pain to be her own..." Viola said with a discreet smile, looking at Phia as Cypress mentioned her being safe.

At first, just like her brother, Viola simply ignored the wolf warrior's presence, finding his presence or even his reason to be there of no relevance to her. The moment he looked towards her and Cyrus with suspicion though, ordering to stay where they were with a thump of his battleaxe, he finally earned Viola's attention...

The Blood Rose's thorny vines shifted uncomfortably around Viola, reflecting her mood as they finished feeding on the Roc's carcass, leaving it completely dry. Similarly, Viola turned her gaze towards the wolf warrior. Despite her silence, her expression and gaze made it quite clear that she considered him nothing more than a bother and only barely worthy of her even acknowledging his presence, not caring about his 'warning' at all.

Unfortunately, the very moment he put his axe on his shoulder before clearly threatening them with a swing of his axe, he ceased being 'just' a bother in Viola's eyes. For now, he was still just an obstacle in her eyes, but Cyrus knew that if she considered him a threat, she would definitely act.

"Unprovoked hostility... It threatens us, brother." Viola said with a disinterested, but still clearly annoyed tone before she looked at Cyrus, almost as if waiting for his decision regarding what to do.

“Fuck.” Darius couldn’t help but utter as he witnessed Dante collapse after everything that had occurred. Avalia was really something and Darius was getting intimately familiar with it. To see a gargantuan bird was enough, but to fight it as they did was well beyond what he expected to experience. The altercation seemed to punch him with a potent dose of reality. For the most part, Darius found his time in Avalia to be like a continuation of the vacation he and Dante had planned.

The dust was still settling but Darius knew the fight had met its conclusion. The roc was completely devastated but not before it managed to get Menzai. Darius was reluctant to move from his spot. Sure, he had only known Menzai for a short time but they had spent every day with the stoic wolf-man. And to think Darius and Dante weren't quite considerate to him. They trained as he instructed but they also made it a daily headache most of the time and tested his patience.

With so much to take in, Darius kind of just stood there for a moment.

“You gotta move.” He whispered to himself, talking through his actions as he typically did whenever he felt stuck. He trudged to Dante lying face-first in the dirt. He didn't even have words for him at the moment. Dante helped kill the roc but Darius was oblivious to what the hell his brother was doing afterward. With an unenthusiastic sigh, Darius rolled Dante onto his back. The unconscious twin was heavy but he was confident he could lift him. He sat Dante up and proceeded to lift him from underneath his arms. This was the hard part since Dante ensured he was almost built like a margarita glass, so he made sure to quickly get his shoulders under Dante's right arm before bending down to reach for his right leg so he could hoist him into a fireman's carry. Another sigh escaped him. “What the fuck were you even thinking? Like how do you fuck up a W like that?” Darius complained as he trudged through the dust-filled air.

He rambled and cursed on and on until he heard a quick gust of wind. Then and there, he noticed Jin right beside him. Darius recognized him from the village but simply forgot his name since they hardly had many interactions. Jim wasn't alone either as several other members of the Gaurav Village were accompanying him.

“Huh?” Darius wasn't sure of what else to say as he continued walking while carrying Dante.

“Darius, allow us to relieve you and safely take your brother to receive medical attention.” Jin spoke firmly, though it still came across as a request. Darius stopped in his tracks and stared at Jim for about a second as if weighing the option… literally.

“What's good with you, is good with me. Take him.” Darius kept still as two wolves of Gaurav took Dante off his back while the other set up a litter to place him onto. “Before you ask. He's not too banged up. I think he broke his brain… though I'm pretty sure that happened way before we got to Avalia.” Jin gave Darius an inquisitive look before nodding in the direction of the others through the dust. They all made haste, lightly jogging in the direction of the others

Things should have gotten easier. It was supposed to be that way, right? Yet upon clearing the dust he found the two unfamiliar fairies having a bit of a stare-down with Ulyses. There was also- Darius wouldn't look toward Menzai and Phia. He couldn't.

“Hey Ulyses, Thing 1 and Thing 2! Let's get off of ten and take it down to a… a two. Okay?” Darius shouted before anything more could be said between them. Darius wasn't his usual cheery self, looking a tad bit annoyed by the whole situation unfolding. He faced the towering Ulyses as he was sure he could reason with the person he knew. “Hey listen! They helped us. A lot.” Darius stressed. “I don't know them but… I don't know, take my word for it. This could have been a whole lot worse and I trust them.” Darius turned around toward the two peculiar fairies. “We're not fighting, right?”

Attire:Dress, which she decorated with flowers and hung little charms off the ropes, A small antler headdress with flowers and jewels, amulet with Millinia Crest, wooden butterfly earrings, various bracelets

Phia's heart swelled with relief, her eyes sparkling with joy as she beheld the first flicker of consciousness in Menzai's eyes. Acting swiftly, she tore a strip of fabric from her dress and moistened it with water from her flask. Then, she proceeded to dab at the corner of Menzai's lips gently, hushing him as he tried to speak. "Menzai. You do not need to speak...Just listen." Her eyes searched his for a moment. Menzai had been closest to her in all that she had known and she could imagine what was going through that head of his. With a smile, she said tenderly, "You saved me... Thank you."

She had wanted to say more, feeling as if a thousand words had been lingering on the tip of her tongue. But it was then a loud slam shattered the moment, startling her. She whirled to look over her shoulder, immediately stating with recognition, "Ulyses!" Her mind had not anticipated his presence, yet there he stood, brandishing his axe as always.

Heeding the initial instructions to stay put, Phia remained rooted to her spot, continuing to heal Menzai until she was certain that further blood loss was no longer a concern. During this brief respite, Phia took a quick survey of her surroundings, noting that Dante was on the ground and acknowledging Cyrus's nod with one of her own.

I have to make sure Dante is okay too after.

She had given Jin a nod and smile in regards to his statement, but had not yet commented until she noticed them approaching Cyrus and Viola. She had not been able to quite hear every word from her position, but it was when he swung his axe as a threat toward them that something awoke in her. With an unreadable expression, she gently laid Menzai down and rose to her feet. She felt as if her legs were moving toward the situation on their own accord.

Arriving moments after Darius had taken his stand, Phia allowed him to speak, though her clenched fists betrayed her feelings.

“Hey Ulyses, Thing 1 and Thing 2! Let's get off of ten and take it down to a… a two. Okay?... Hey listen! They helped us. A lot...I don't know them but… I don't know, take my word for it. This could have been a whole lot worse and I trust them...We're not fighting, right?”

"Darius is correct...They could have run." Phia chimed in, adding some weight to his statement. "They stayed and they fought valiantly..." Her eyes fell on Cyrus and Viola, glossy with emotion. She had just met these two yet she felt willing to lay her life down to make sure they were safe. Phia knew it was absurd to feel that way about strangers, but she could not stop herself.

In a moment of charged silence, Phia's unwavering gaze found its target in Ulyses, her voice resolute, "With all due respect, you will refrain from threatening my comrades ever again, Ulyses."

Phia's comforting touch and gentle words were enough to calm the injured wolf and with it allowed himself to properly relax. Her appreciation also aided in easing the pain coursing through his body, though he wanted to let her know she had no need to nor ever would. Saying anything would only serve to insult her feelings and as such, chose to leave it there for now as he left the kind fairy to her task for as long as she felt comfortable doing so.

His rest was shortlived, however, when Ulyses voice spoke up following the aged wolf's typical manner of confronting a possible threat. He had hoped it would take a few minutes longer for them to mobilize and arrive to afford him more time to recover as the outcome ended up as expected.

Even with the threat of the Roc dealt with, the reason for its attack and the two unknown traveler's appearance coinciding was sure to lead to such suspicions. And for now, Menzai could naught but lie there and hope things didn't escalate too much.

A worry that became a realized concern as Ulyses started being more active and vocal in his warnings, the stubborn canine while strong and dedicated. Not the best at handling situations that were tense; a man always eager for a battle that had been denied one of the best challenges so seldom offered. The traveler's mannerism in how they spoke back and seemingly dismissing said warnings only added fuel onto the dying embers born from this battle.

Ulyses could be seen scowling beneath the beard at their clear signs of disrespect causing his battle instinct still itching to burn. Before he could make a move, though Jin had arrived with the humans and for moment the fairies were forgotten as he was pleased to see them." So the human brats survived then? Looks like luck was on your side... mostly." Tilting his head to glance over at Dante and Menzai; concern etching his face, but he had a job to do." Good to see everyone still breathing, but things ain't finished here, I'm afraid." Shaking his head before turning his attention back to Cyrus and Viola with a stern glare.

This time it was Darius and Phia who had things to say; coming to their defense with talks of helping instead of running and how they were trustworthy. All the while, Ulyses stroked his beard as if pondering of their words." Ahhhh.....it does the heart good seeing such spirited youth standing up for friends." Chuckling with an amused smirk only to then shake his head with a long sigh." I've waited to let everyone speak their peace and while I respect that spunk, sweet Phi and how trusting the two of you are, but...you have to understand my position." Nodding his head as he motioned with a wide arc motion of his left hand to take in the entire situation.

" My task is to get things in order and to figure out what happened here and why. I got people back at the village scared and rattled with the coucil breathing down my neck for a report." Resting the axe across his shoulder, his face and tone no longer the hostile manner he appeared with.

Taking another look over the area then turned his attention back to the two unknown fairies." I feel for you, but until we get to the bottom of this. Those two are the most suspicious with their timing, while likely purely coincidental, if there is a chance this was all some ploy of these two to get into our village..." Trailing off as his body shifted into a more serious pose." Having said this. Until they are cleared of suspicion, they will be under my custody." With a displeased grunt, Ulyses started to make towards the two, pushing past any that might try to bar him.

The figures standing in the trees were preparing to jump down and surround Viola and Cyrus with Ulyses drawing down upon them ready for a fight if need.

" That..is enough." Menzai's strained voice broke through, sounding weak and tired but still loud enough to be heard in the clearing. Menzai could be seen forcing himself into a sitting position, having done so through tremendous effort, his face nearly pale as ash that was slick with sweat; pain evident in those sharp eyes of which still burned with so much life. A furious tenacity only befitting the Gaurav Guardian.

Zeva averted her gaze as the fairies answered her questions in turn, unveiled threats sprinkled among their words. There was a certain dissonance between her lighthearted attitude and the solemness their situation demanded, which made Zeva feel a little out of place. She was definitely the unwelcome guest who had inadvertently invited herself to their party, but she was coming to understand what their mission was, and how dedicated everyone was to its cause.

Much to her surprise, Bowyn, as he introduced himself, was a healer among other things, and despite the cold reception, he kindly helped Zeva patch up her shoulder. She felt a cool touch as his magic transferred to her wound, but her heart was warmed by the gesture. “You’re not so bad after all!” Zeva beamed, flashing a friendly grin and playfully throwing a punch at his shoulder with her now healed limb. “Thanks, Bowyn.”

Mister Luum never seemed to consider the room when he spoke, interrupting the tenseness with a misplaced enthusiasm that made it as if the previous awkwardness did not exist. Though Bowyn emphasized this was not a ‘whimsical adventure’, Mister Luum sure made it sound otherwise. Zeva pondered this for a bit – she never had direct experiences with the dark elves’ cruelty in her sheltered upbringing in Illuminata, but she was very aware of the pain and suffering they’ve caused across Avalia. She recalled the anguished expressions on her parents’ faces when she told them of the things they lost, and the elders of the village who recounted similar stories to her in her childhood. Her beliefs were already shaped by those around her, and she knew she wanted to end dark elf rule as well. With the training she received that surpassed the training of many young elves, Zeva was confident that she could perhaps help their cause, and in the end, alleviate the worries of her dear family.

“...I think I would like to help. I’m better trained than most elves my age, if that provides you any comfort.” Zeva smiled once again, before directing her attention to the other elf. “Not sure I want to be your apprentice though. I mean, you seem to be great at light magic and all, but I’m sure not!” Zeva chuckled, reminded of all the times she was scolded at school and home for how much she struggled to grasp basic light manipulation. “I can do a few things here and there, but I’m more of a close-range fighter.” She motioned towards the blades strapped to her back.

“Why don’t we move towards Roshmi City while we get to know each other a bit better? We all have business there anyway.”

"Unprovoked hostility... It threatens us, brother."

“It does,” he agreed but continued to focus more on the tree than the wolf. Cyrus continued with his goal to heal at least one tree, only returning to Viola’s side once he saw new growth forming. Though many people spoke, Cyrus looked first toward Viola. “I think we frighten him.” He said shrugging off the wolf’s aggression as the acts of a frightened animal. He looked back at the big wolf Ulysus, “Do you dislike all travelers or is there some issue between your village and the River Fairy Kingdom we are unaware of?” He asked, trying to pinpoint where the hostility stemmed from.

“We're not fighting, right?”

“We are not fighting now. But when we did it was on the same side. If you are all friends of Phia’s, that need not change.” Cyrus pointed out, both for Viola and Ulysus’s benefit; it was not in their best interest to fight with Phia’s allies, unprovoked hostility or not.

Then Phi spoke up, and Phia spoke with authority. “Did you hear that?” He leaned closer and whispered to Viola, words kept hidden but the joy in them extended to his smile. “Her voice knows what the mind has forgotten. Phia now speaks with the authority of a princess, part of her remembers.” He continued to smile even as it became clear that Ulysus was not swayed by the other’s words.

As Ulysus moved toward both Viola and him, Cyrus moved to stand between his sister and the wolf. A protective gesture but not for Viola’s sake; if Ulysus continued his threatening behavior, it would not end well for the wolf.

“Your threats bother my sister, you will stop them.” His tone was soft but stern, not so much a threat as it was a warning. “Now if all you want is to spend some time with us, I am happy to oblige, but understand, while we mean you and your village no harm, we will not be in anyone’s custody. It is a civil conversation, or we are done speaking with you.” Cyrus extended a hand to Ulysus after offering what he saw as a reasonable compromise. He would not willingly sacrifice his freedom to appease a hostile wolf, and he had a feeling Viola, rightfully, would not respond well to such a thing either.

“Good. I'm glad I could not only avert a crisis but also recruit a new brave warrior to our growing little army.” Mister Luum gave a nod in the direction of Roshmi walking forward. Take that Lochee! I am a natural-born leader. He wore a confident smile while ensuring he took the lead again, finding what he felt was his rightful place amongst the youngsters.

The pace was definitely a lot quicker, mostly due to the group wanting to get away from the scene as quickly as possible. That and the fact that Roshmi was a gem of a city to get to. It had everything. Towering buildings, an assortment of races even if its people were predominantly demihuman, there was any kind of shop you could hope for, seedy bars, lovely nightclubs, and too many eateries to decide lunch on. Roshmi can be considered a prime waystation for every manner of travel as it not only contained countless establishments but it held the largest amora and Helius port in Avalia while also having the most well-known boat port renamed “Landfall Port.” It was no wonder Malthemoor struck here first.

To King Zanithel, the grand city was the proving ground for his forces, and taking Roshmi inspired his soldiers to fight on toward the other kingdoms confidently. To believe no other armies could resist their might. And even then, the king chose not to completely ravage the city. It and its people had its uses after all… and enough that the city's populace was grateful for it.

It was no surprise that the peculiar group was greeted by the sight of a 20-foot marble statue depicting King Zanithel at the west entrance of the city. He was facing stoically to the west while raising his long sword upward and out. The statue's right foot was planted forward on a large stone. On the front of the stones was inscribed:

“Welcome to Roshmi City”

“I think this might have been his best power move after the big win… There used to be a turtle or lion or something there.” Mister Luum almost sounded impressed as the group moved toward the entrance and past demihuman guards that didn't seem to have any words for the members of the group. It would be a relief to know that Bardulf's sudden bolt of lightning did not draw suspicion onto those perceived as the everyday group of travelers. Though it was a strange occurrence it was not completely outside of the realm of norm. It also helped that there were others eager to come and go as the day for those in Roshmi got underway. The first steps into the city gave a chance for newcomers to take in the sight of the most demihumans they had seen in one setting. The citizens moved about with purpose that any fast-paced environment bore. The multilevel metropolis as spacious as it appeared was packed with many yet the crowd moved with an impressive fluidness.

“Absolutely grand!” Mister Luum took in the sight as a regular tourist might just before performing a quick about-face toward the others. “Okay kids, we can split up and hit some shops and then meet at the port on the east end of the city at dusk. I think we should at least enjoy what Roshmi has to offer. Yay, or nay?”

Welcome to Roshmi City

Roshmi City is known for its stunning architecture, lively culture, and amazing nightlife. With a population of around one million, the city is mostly inhabited by demi-humans, but there are folks from other species who call this place home too.

The city's Political Center serves as the heart, housing the residence of the dark elf warden Ravus Solsta. Located in the upper-class district, the City Plaza is a central hub for shopping and leisure. It features upscale restaurants and luxury hotels.
Roshmi boasts three main transport centers, facilitating travel and providing a range of transportation options. The largest center, located in the upper-class area, offers a variety of vehicles and mounts for sale. The city also boasts numerous universities, schools, and hospitals.

Deep within the underused tunnels of Roshmi, accessible through entrances in lower-class sectors, lies an infamous black market. Dark elves turn a blind eye to the illicit activities taking place there, including slavery and underground fights. Venturing here is dangerous.
Roshmi City offers a wide array of entertainment options. The Leaky Tap Tavern and Inn, a middle-class establishment, is a popular spot where working-class individuals gather. The Nest, located in the lower-class district, is a smaller bar but unfortunately notorious for its criminal activities. Magnifica, an upper-class bar and dance room, hosts professional musicians. The city also boasts charming restaurants like Baelde's, which is known for its friendly chef, and Night Lounge and Dining, an exquisite upper-class restaurant.

Additional attractions include Mida's Sweet Smokes, an upper-class hookah lounge offering fair prices, and Kalaza Arena, where official battling sports take place during the day and occasional concerts and dance performances occur at night. The grand Roshmi Hall, an upper-class music venue, hosts ballets, plays, musical performances, and the highly anticipated quarterly Roshmi Grand Ball celebrating each of the four seasons.

For those seeking more romantic pursuits, Roshmi City has two known brothels: Love Rooms in the lower-class district and Love Lounge in the upper-class district.

While the wolf warrior and his subordinates continued showing quite a bit of hostility towards Viola and Cyrus, his other companions, particularly one of the two 'elves' that held strange earth magic was the first one to speak up. Surprisingly enough, not only he tried to deescalate the situation, but he also interceded for them, confirming to the wolf warrior that they were in fact, allies and had helped them against the roc.

Despite being somewhat surprised by how quickly he decided to speak in their defense. Viola maintained her cold expression towards the wolf warrior, who was called Ulysses, according to the elf. After one of the two strange elves decided to speak up, Ophelia also expressed her dissatisfaction with Ulysses' actions. Despite the situation, Viola couldn't help but notice that Phia there was a noticeable authority in her voice... An authority that was more suitable to a princess than to a random fairy.

"I did, brother Cypress." Viola said as Cyrus pointed the way Viola spoke.

"I hope but... It's still too early to tell, brother..." Viola replied with a sad, distant tone as Cyrus mentioned that her tone of voice was a signal that deep down inside, Ophelia still remembered who she was.

There was a part of Viola that hoped Ophelia remembered her past and who they were but the other part... The part that always inflamed the doubts and negative thoughts in her mind found it hard to believe... Hard to trust that her sister was still there and even if it was, it refused to believe she still cared.

Unfortunately, there seemed to be little time for inner reflections, as despite the elf and Ophelia's words, Ulysses and his subordinates continued advancing towards Viola and Cyrus. The moment Ulysses gave a step forward, the blood rose's thorns, which were already shifting uncomfortably, started moving much more rapidly and violently, shooting into the ground around Viola and Cyrus, breaking the ground with an audible noise as they quickly spread outwards. Moving under the ground like serpents, they stopped just in front of Ulysses and his warriors, the cracks and the vines that rose up from ground every now and then clearly indicating that if either Ulysses or his warrior crossed that border, Viola would attack.

At first, this area was quite large, but when Cyrus got in front of Viola, she quickly understood that his words were also a subtle way for him to tell her to stand down and so, the thorns retreated to half of the previous size, visibly more relaxed than they were a moment ago.

"I will not be made prisoner again, brother." Viola said, looking to Cyrus with a cold, menacing tone. Cyrus would know well how she felt regarding the very idea or possibility of being a prisoner and being thrown in a cell. If any one of the villagers insisted to do so with her, Cyrus knew Viola would rather kill every single one of them before she even thought about the idea of spending a single night on a cell.

Darius had given Cyrus and Viola a quick nod when they answered him before turning back to the towering Ulyses. He had fought guys who were slightly larger than him but Ulyses completely dwarfed them. Even then, it wasn’t an excuse to back down, just an excuse to be considerably on edge. The canine demihuman didn’t just boast size, he held his ax firmly in hand with his years of martial prowess to back up each swing he could take. He wouldn’t attack us though, right? He wouldn’t. Darius was attempting to keep himself cool under the pressure when Phia spoke out against Ulyses next, taking a stand beside him. Shooting her a glance, he felt ever more confident in his place.

“Yeah, just chill. I don’t understand how a large eagle? Hawk? Or whatever-the- hell-you-call-that couldn’t have just wanted to have a bite out of us,” he said, not understanding Ulyses’ position in the argument. However, Darius found that he and Phia weren’t going to deter the giant as he stated he would take the two into his custody until the situation was hashed out with the council.

All the while, Dante woke feeling sick beyond anything, his body felt as if it were tearing itself apart, barely awake he could hear voices around him but couldn’t make out who or how many. Dante finally looked up towards one of the demi-humans that was tending to him. “Where is my brother? Where is Darius?” He said as panic rose inside, only worsening the feeling of the mana drain Dante put himself in. He pushed himself up attempting to sit up so he could at least take a look at his surroundings. “What happened to the giant bird?” A flood of questions rushed to his head. As far as he knew, they were fighting it and then everything went black. “Your brother is safe, and the roc is dead. Do not worry, just relax. You have used too much energy and exerting yourself now will only lead to more problems.” The wolf Demi-human said trying to calm and ease Dante’s mind. Dante couldn’t hold himself back he had to get up.

Though Darius had noticed and slightly made out the exchange going on between Dante and the Gauravan, he had bigger things to worry about. Ulyses marched forward while at the same time, Cyrus extended a hand while voicing a compromise. And if it wasn’t bad enough, thorny vines had momentarily broken through the surface of the small stretch of ground in front of Ulyses, tempted to strike if the situation became worse. Trapped between nigh personifications of war and peace, Darius shifted his left foot back, taking a sturdier stance.

Dante was now lurching forward to get up from his knees, pushing against the demi-humans trying to get him to lay down “No, I am getting up!” He demanded despite being in tremendous pain he got on his knees and slowly lifted himself onto his feet. He stood there in shock at the dead roc, crushed, covered in dirt, and drained of blood. He didn’t understand what killed it but he was thankful it was over. It was then Dante turned to see Darius standing a bit away. Relief washed over him that his brother was safe and unharmed. Almost forgetting his pain, he stumbled his way over to Darius putting a hand on his shoulder. “What’s goin’ on bro?” His voice was labored but he had to maintain some normalcy in the situation despite not comprehending all that was occurring.

Darius flinched toward Dante, looking as if he was going to hit him if he hadn’t quickly recognized him.

“What… What the fuck are you doing?! Go lay your ass back down!” Though Darius was yelling, he was doing so in concern as Dante seemed out of it.

“That..is enough.” Menzai's strained voice sounded.

Kenia smiled warmly at Zion, appreciating his welcoming nature and enthusiasm. She took the plate he offered and carefully piled it with a variety of food, avoiding the onions in the eggs just like Enstille. She glanced over at Enstille's meticulous removal of the slimy onions, a sense of camaraderie forming as she understood his aversion to them.

"Thank you, Zion. Your kindness is truly a breath of fresh air in this rather eventful morning," she replied, her voice gentle and grateful. "To answer your question, I actually only live here part of the year. The rest of the year I travel between Illuminata and Roshmi. I truly love this little place and its vibrant community." She said before taking a bite of food.

Kenia's eyes briefly fell on Malachi, who seemed preoccupied with Jun, their conversation seemingly intense. She couldn't help but wonder what was troubling the young human, betting it had something to do with his situation in life now. However, now wasn't the right time to pry into their affairs. Instead, she focused on the present moment, enjoying the company of the warm-hearted individuals gathered in the kitchen.

As she settled into her seat, she turned her attention back to Zion, her smile brightening. "So, Zion, tell me more about your time here in River Port. What are the highlights of your visit so far?" From the earlier interaction with Enstille she decided it was best to give him space, little attention, and perhaps he would open up in time.

Time had faded since her previous visit, Sirena had been in Port Vanarosa for at least a month. Seeking solace in the seedier corners of towns, cities, and ports, she catered to the shady characters, offering an array of items acquired through chance discoveries, brazen thefts, or her own craftsmanship. A delicate dance with hiding in the shadows sustained her, affording sustenance and means of travel, while her uncanny knack for blending with unusual hideaways ensured safe passage when necessary. Decrepit barns and abandoned buildings sheltered her during her travels. If something was not suitable, Sirena would find solace within the woods safe away from the towns.

Yet, traversing treacherous paths came as an expected burden for Sirena. Alone, she wandered through realms, burdened by her very nature as a dark fairy. Her existence attracted hate and loathing. Verbal onslaughts, projectiles hurled with disdain, and physical assaults became the theme of her journey, staining her days and nights with anguish both in pain and loneliness.

And this time was no different.

The break of dawn offered a fleeting reprieve from the nightmarish shadows that enveloped her world. As the first rays of sunlight penetrated the stable's splintered wooden planks, its feeble glow caressed Sirena's delicate features. Her moon-struck hair, glowed its white glow as her pale skin nearly blended into her white dress. She wore a black cloak that hugged her body tightly was the cold night air. Her head rested upon a modest mound of hay, her eyes tracing the spectral dance of light as it ascended, casting a sense of hope. In this brief moment, the clamor of her restless mind dulled, granting her a semblance of peace.

As the sun ascended, its light cascaded over Sirena's emaciated form, illuminating the stains of blood that stained her tattered dress. As the stream of light traveled, it unveiled a crimson gash, etched upon her swollen lips, as a reminder of the night's event. The mottled hues of black and purple painted her bruised face, the fresh wounds adorning her right eye.

The night prior, as Sirena concluded her shop for the evening, a feeling of darkness engulfed her surroundings, invoking the presence of things not welcomed.

The nocturnal hours, once a veil of serenity, became a reminder of murmurs and unseen terrors. Seeking relief from the voices and visions that plagued her, she sought solace in a tavern, where copious amounts of ale became her refuge—a means to silence the chaos in her mind, to lull herself to sleep. It was a habit she had acquired, a ritual born out of necessity.

Having enjoyed her evening deeply, she stumbled back toward her current home, the barn that had briefly become her sanctuary, only to encounter a group of men on her way.

Like a sack of potatoes, they tossed her about callously, their bully-like behavior escalating into a sickeningly personal assault. The limits of her welcome had been met; it was time to flee. The men continued to kick and punch her. It wasn’t until she collapsed to her knees that they decided to leave out of fear of being caught…

Suppressing the night's haunting memories, Sirena hastily gathered her possessions, her mind now fixed upon leaving. If she could reach the docks before the light fully claimed the sky, her chances of boarding a ship and finding refuge in its hidden recesses would increase. The art of sailing had become an unwritten expertise of hers, as her presence remained undiscovered to this point. Her comfort in voyages grew, disembarking at ports and lingering until her instincts summoned her onward. It was then that Sirena would find a new ship to board, stowing herself away for weeks. She would be active while the crew slept, creeping around to find food and other things she needed, returning back to the original place before anyone would notice.

Nearing the docks, she moved with thought as she tried to draw little attention to herself as her gaze, a calculating dance, began assessing the vessels tethered within the docks. Amidst the shadows, her eyes fell upon the Saltrunner—an imposing craft that exuded an aura of dormant power. Its seemingly vacant deck and lack of a vigilant crew presented an opportunity too enticing to ignore. Silently melding into the obscurity of her surroundings, Sirena slipped aboard the ship, her cloak shrouding her form, rendering her almost unnoticeable.

Finding her way under a staircase, She slipped under them covering herself with her cloak so as to not be seen. Her nervous breath intertwined with the salt-tinged air that hung heavy around her. But as the stillness draped her like a shroud, a chilling voice emerged, an ethereal whisper that clawed its way into her consciousness. "Sirena... Suuuuuuhhhh-reeeeeeee-naaaaaaaa," it slithered, tormenting her senses, compelling her to recoil, to fold in upon herself, seeking refuge within the sanctuary of her own knees as she rested her chin on them.

Closing her eyes and taking a deep breath she waited.

"Under your custody?" Phia's voice quivered as she echoed. "They have done nothing wrong, Ulyses. They were just looking for their family." Suddenly, the trees and everyone around her seemed to melt away and her surroundings transformed into a haunting scene of desolation. Ruins of a home surrounded her, with wood and debris scattered across the grass. Anguished screams pierced the air. The canopy of large trees seemed to hide the night sky above. She wanted to move but she was crushed underneath something heavy. Fleeting images of bloodied bodies hijacked her view, and then menacing, black, clawed feet.

Confusion gripped her, unable to decipher the meaning behind these haunting images, and tears streamed down her cheeks unnoticed. With an expression and unwavering intensity unlike Phia, she swiftly positioned herself protectively in front of Viola and Cyrus, pointing her staff resolutely at Ulyses. In the depths of her mind, she struggled to comprehend her own actions.

In the back of her mind, she couldn't believe her actions.

Ulyses was her family. The village of Guarav was her family.

Why would she turn on them for strangers?

But Phia could not stop herself. She felt with every fiber in her being that she could not let anyone take Viola and Cyrus away.

" That..is enough." Her gaze slid to Menzai briefly and she tightened her grip.

"Menzai is right. That is enough."

A fair amount had happened in such a short time. Tanithil took the moment to process the situation at hand. Previously he had every intention of simply turning the group into a pack of swiss cheese and being done with it, but now his friends and crew were all together creating all sorts of chaos and diversions....just the way he liked it. His gaze fell to the dark elf leader charging him. How inspiring. The little runt thinks he can match up to this...slightly taller runt. He thought to himself. He snickered while the man approached, blades drawn and threatening to slash at his arms. With a devious grin he saw exactly what the elf was looking to do. Either loss his weapon, or loss his hand....again. So naturally, Tanithil simply let his weapon go. The conjured gun fell forward as Tanithil jumped back, likely giving the bandit a false sense of victory for all of about 2 seconds.

After his fingers came together, as if to cast a spell, the shadow gun morphed entirely. Its shape bent and formed several long tendrils coming from a central blob of dark magic. The tendrils attempted to wrap around the face of the man charging at Tanithil, allowing him to create some space and a diversion all while making him look rather silly with a shadow creature hugging his face. Tanithil spun around the elf in an attempt to dodge and took a brief note of the situation. He noticed Arlen scaling the rooftops, with the fairy in tow. He nodded in appreciation of Ismael's kick against the fairy's torso and noticed the vines ensaring him. He saw Amisra throw, of all things, a potato, at the big orcish brute. The Captain, watchful as ever, was taking a safe watch from the distance and allowing his crew to handle this mess. Rightfully so, as if these four thugs could outdue their gang then they had no business being saviors of Avalia.

Tanithil crossed his arms and shot them out to either side, quick wisps of shadow energy raced across the alley in either direction towards Amisra and Ismael, and quickly wrapped them up in shadow magic. "Some Shielding outta give you both an edge. C'mon now, show Tanny boy that spunk we all know and love you two!" He chuckled, finding the silly little nickname growing on him somewhat. But he wouldn't let Amisra nor Arlen know this outright. He swiftly pulled a dagger from its sheath and turned to face the short dark elf, his tone somewhat changed. "Right then. How's about I show you a proper knife dance?"
