Satori

"Not to worry. Today's lesson will mostly be an introductory to Psychomancy, I don't expect anyone to actually be using their magic to soon. Perhaps during the next lesson or two we will begin on some basic techniques." Satori's attention soon turned towards Alaria, who was giving off some negative vibes with her sarcastically hostile thoughts. It was due to her own Wide-Concentration Mind Reading ability she had active all the time, and was about to shut her out when it seemed that Alaria was in pain. She clutched her head, demanding that they get out of her head. Admittedly Satori was a bit worried, but delving into her head some more, she found that Alaria had a certain weakness to Psychomancy. "Interesting." She thought. Though she was curious to know more, Satori thought it would be more entertaining to simply leave. Alaria was a strong girl after all, surely she wouldn't need them to baby her. "Come along now Ssarak. You would not want to be late. I'm sure Miss Taenn will be fine... She's a strong girl after all." Satori had a thin veil of sarcasm in that last sentence, but said not more as she walked off towards her classroom.

Alaira Taenn

Alaira couldn't hear anything, nor could she see. The pain was simply so immense it was causing sensory overload. Rage soon turned to despair, however, as she merely wanted the noise to stop. She fell over, and the panicked screeching became desperate sobbing as she (mostly unintelligibly) pleaded for it to stop. However, she felt the pain bite deeper as Satori dug around in her mind. At this point the pain became too much for her to take, and she screamed. It was as if the very sound of it itself was infused with agony in it's purest form. the scream soon died out as she trailed off, having fallen unconscious.

Ssarak did not immediately follow along with Satori, as Alaira seemed to be getting worse. She collapsed to the ground and screamed out in pain, something that certainly caused Ssarak to become afraid for her safety. What was going on, was Satori causing this? She had already caused a great deal of pain for the majority of the students at the college, himself included, so it did not seem outside of her character. Ssarak was beginning to see Satori as more unstable and dangerous seemingly every time she did anything.

Crouching down next to Alaira, he quickly looked over the Forest Elf and saw that, fortunately, she was still breathing, though obviously unconscious. He looked up at Satori as she walked away with a mix of confusion and distrust. Ultimately, he knew he was powerless to do anything she did not want him to do. Even if he was not completely exhausted, she was a master Psychomancer. Regardless, who would he be if he did not at least attempt to do the right thing?

"She seems to be unconscious. I cannot simply leave her here in good conscious." As Ssarak stood up, he picked Alaira up off of the ground, allowing his axe to rest between her and his arms, though he was careful to keep its sharp edges away from her. Between Alaira, her belongings, and his axe, Ssarak was lifting a good deal of weight, which was no easy task in his current state. Overall, it was fortunate that endurance training was a regular part of his daily routine. "Allow me to take her to the infirmary, then I will join you in your classroom. I need to return my axe to my own room, regardless."

[bMar and Althalus...well..you know. :p. Also a minor timeskip.[/b]

Continuously, as the two of them made their way unsteadily towards their room, Althalus found his gaze returning to the pretty Naga helping him stand and walk. It wasn't that there was not anything else interesting to look at in the world around them(For example, there was the remarkably blue sky, the shiny windows, and even neat statues.), it was that he found her the most interesting(certainly the most beautiful), thing in the courtyard. For now, however, he was content to gaze at her.

The act of entering her, strangely familiar, room proved to be a feat far surpassing their skills at balance. Within two short steps, Althalus lost his balance and began falling forward. Mar's balance wasn't any better, and she fell with him. They rolled and tumbled down the tunnel, Althalus chuckling the whole way down, finally coming to a stop with a thump. Althalus pinned to the ground with Mar ontop of his chest, admiring the way the light source shone off of various things with a smile on his face. Including her. Especially her.

"Hahaha..."Mar giggled as dirt went flying from their rough entrance within the burrow like doorway, the sides clearly became wider afterwards.

Her tail had wrapped about the pair while her arms were planted on either side of the man's head, her head lowered to touch their foreheads together. She bite her lips, trying to keep the giggles down but failed epically, instead the sounds turned into soft snickers which became outright laughing. It echoed throughout the room's insides and back to her, the Naga's body rolled to where she laid on his arm. Her head rested upon his chest, still tried to cease if only to ease her aching sides. Slowly Mar's breath was gone until she couldnt keep up the mirthful noises anymore.

"You're funny..." She commented then looked up to his face.

Althalus soon joined Mar in her laughter. It had begun quietly, while her pretty brown eyes were only inches from his own. He didn't try to keep it in, even if he had only a small idea of what exactly was so funny. Laughing for the sake of laughter was good enough for him. For a few moments after they both stopped, nothing could be heard but the sound of heavy breathing as they both tried to regain their breath. His arm was on her shoulders, holding her to him. For laying on the ground after rolling down a small incline, it was strangely comfortable.

He glanced down at her comment, smiling. He didn't know how exactly she came about that conclusion, but he didn't care. "And you, are very beautiful. Has anyone ever told you that?"

"No... but I like it when you did." She edged closer to his face.

Her eyes suddenly sank into his, a small flicker of delight crept over her face as she realized, slowly, that she wanted to kiss him. Why not? She asked herself, unable to find or care for a reason not to. Her hand reached out to cup his jawline while her face pulled up, lip locking him in a full fledge kiss. Her head sudden collapsed into a numbing but plesant experience, one she found herself unable to get enough of. Any air left in her lungs was gone causing her to release the extend spell from the kiss with a surprised look and heavy gasp.

Althalus's smile grew wider, more pleased, when she responded. Good. He wanted to make her happy. He was about to say something in response, when she suddenly cupped his jawline and kissed him. His eyes popped wide in minor surprise for about a second, before he returned the kiss, his arm tightening around her to bring her closer, head being filled iwth a strange new feeling. Though, that may have just been the lack oxygen.

As the two of them broke apart, he stared at her, a new glint in his eyes. He smiled slightly to see her surprise, before leaning in and whispering "Why stop?" And then he kissed her.

After that, both were too...occupied for talking.

~~~~~~
A few hours later. (Late afternoon)
Mar was shaking. Her body covered in a cold sweat while the fever raged through out her skin, making it hot to the touch as Althalus would notice. Her arm slung over his naked chest and her tail coiled about his lower half, her head buried within his side would be what woke him. Her tail couldn't even constrict as each time it did, the coils jerked and twitched badly enough to release. White colored her skin and gave it a sickly color from the infection's presence.
Althalus became immediately aware of three things when he awoke: he was naked with Mar, she was shaking, and she was burning up. The latter two took precedence in what he reacted to, but the first one was no small amount of surprise either. Or rather, the more he remembered, the more he reminded himself to thank the Esyire later. He untangled himself from the shaking Naga, saying, "Alright, this isn't exactly how I planned to get you to see common sense, but this works. I'm taking you to the healer or Alchemist or whomever. You're in bad shape."
With that, he began collecting and throwing on his clothes, leaving the armor and weapons where they were. Speed was more important than protection. Soon he was presentable enough that the only thing people would give them looks for was the sick Naga he was going to be carrying, which meant, he had a pair of pants on. Walking over, he gave a concerned glance at the wound in her arm. It had only gotten worse, far worse. A bright, angry, red it was badly swollen, and leaked a nasty looking fluid.
Glancing between Mar and the exit to their room, he sighed. "You could have had a normal door. Then I wouldn't have to drag you.." With that, he slung her uninjured arm over his shoulders and began the lengthy process of dragging a sick Naga up an incline to a healer.
"Meirin."
She walked into the infirmary. Somehow, looking at the place just made her feel better. Still, she was still sick and sluggish, and better to get this checked out before it turned into something worse. "Yesterday was... Quite taxing on my body. I'd just like to come in and make sure I didn't do any serious damage to myself. I don't quite remember what happened, so..." Meirin smiled meekly as she took a seat on one of the open chairs. It was than that she noticed that Aruna was here as well, and in much worse shape than she was. Suddenly Meirin's body didn't arch anymore, and she went over to her roommate. "Aruna! What happened to you?!"
Satori
Satori turned her head only so slightly to Ssarak as he asked her if he could take Alaira away to the Infirmary. She was tempted to delve into his mind o see if he had any ulterior motives... But somehow, she didn't need to. Turned her head back, she simply began to walk away. "I'm still going to start my class. Do hurry." And with that Satori left to her classroom. She did, after some time, see him again, but she did not say anything to him as she continued with her lecture about the fundamentals of Psychomancy, such as how it manipulates the Archanite of the mind. Her lesson went on for the first few hours, most of it involve just her explaining the basics of Psychomancy. She also handed out sheets of tinfoil to everyone, explaining their purpose in blocking out and preventing themselves from accidentally casting wayward telepathy spells. Near the end of class she gave everyone and assignment to work on for the next class; tempering their ability to use their telepathy willingly. She suggested that the students only use their magic on their fellow psychomancers only. She also mentioned that she will be holding extra classes at a later date if anyone is willing for extra lessons, as well as mentioning her Investigation Crew, where they would pool their abilities together to investigate various mystery cases around the world. After she dismissed everyone, Satori stayed behind, filling out some papers regarding students and events during the day.
Lucilia Riovas
Lucilia was just returning from her own class. It had been mostly uneventful, as she also simply went over the basics of Herbamancy and it's applications. Many of her students wanted to immediately know possible combat applications, but she made it clear to them that such lessons will only be taught to students who are diligent in their studies. And by diligent, she meant those who have gotten on her good side, though she didn't say it as such. Like Satori, near the end of her class she mentioned other activities that she would be working with, mostly with her forestry but also Lidda's alchemy class, which Lucilia is sometimes a part of. She left first before the students, heading back to her office to finish off today's paperwork. She was actually nearing in completion and was thinking of heading to Underhaven for a drink when she passed by Althalus and Mar. But something was wrong. Mar looked ill, and with just a glance, she was able to pinpoint the cause. A nasty cut on her arm was infected, and just by taking a small sample she knew that it was a type of disease commonly found on the wildlife south of the college. It wasn't much of a problems for locals since they've largely grown immune to it growing up in the area, but she knew that Mar did not come from the area, and thus her body was not ready for all the germs and sicknesses around the Twilight College area. She likely retrieved the wound when she went out hunting with Tyrael, as the guard report told her. "I'm surprised that old orc missed this. Take her to my office."
After helping carry Mar to her office and clearing out some space, Lucilia went strait into operating on Mar. She had Althalus stay outside her office and wait. Lucilia sedated Mar, knowing very well about her temper (That incident earlier that day also got back to her). Luckily the infection wasn't anything too serious, nothing that Lucilia couldn't handle. She drained the wound of the puss and purged the body of the poison, and also took the time to increase Mar's immunity by giving her vaccine shots. She would still feel ill for the next few days, but once she recovers she wouldn't be so easily sicken. Lucilia also took the time to check up on other things about Mar, making sure that her infection did not cause any complications with her organs. That's when she made a... Startling discovery. One so shocking Lucilia wasn't sure who to tell first. Mar was still sedated and couldn't hear her even if Lucilia shouted into her ear. Lucilia also wasn't feeling so trusting towards Althalus, thinking that he might be responsible. She almost thought to get Tyrael and tell him, but she had no idea how he'd react to such news. So she decided that the best person to call for this would be Khan. She went to Althalus and told him to get Khan, deflecting any questions he had about Mar or why Lucilia needed to talk to the headmaster. When he went to find him, Lucilia went to her chair, looking at her results. She couldn't believe what was happening, and she felt like she needed to take more tests, but it was all so risky. So many questions needed to be answered, but there was one thing she was certain of.
Mar was pregnant.
Collaberation between the brilliant Konan! And the Magnificent Leon!
Leith looked at Jenna and her friend as they stopped talking and turned to him. He must have interrupted something a bit private. He had been about to apologize and walk away when Jenna introduced him to Deven, who turned out to be the friend that she was waiting for. Leith smiled and held out his hand.
"It's nice to meet you, too. I've gotta say, last night must have been an interesting one for you. That doesn't happen much, does it?" Leith asked in a joking tone.The mood around them seemed a bit morose. Hopefully Leith's lighter tone would lighten the mood.
Deven put on a smile and returned the man's gesture by shaking his hand. As Leith finished, Deven nodded, "Like wise and no can't say I have ever delt with anything of the sorts. It was very, well surprising to say the least. Wasn't how I expected to end my walk." He replied as he thought back to previous night. His mind drifted back towards Aruna and he felt that warm feeling begin rising up in him again, before quickly being dowsed by the worry of her current status. I should see if I could visit her later, after me and Jenna finish training, at least to see how she is doing. He thought to himself. Then he remembered the lie Aruna had told the teacher, he had completely forgotten about the bloody half of the arrow still in his pack. If found her lie would be proven false or worse he could be blamed for it. He found himself feeling nervous at the thought but he surprsessed the emotion and showed no sign of it.
"Definitly wasn't something I was expecting to see either. Seeing you come in carrying that girl with the bloodied rag wrapped about her chest. It wasn't how I was expecting to end the night." Jenna commented, Deven nodding in agreement as she finished.
"I don't think anyone was expecting the night to end that way, and if somebody was, I'd be extremely worried," Leith said as he cast his eyes around the room with mock suspicion. "Anyway, on a more lighter note, what did you guys think of the demonstrations? I thought they were pretty good, but I was a bit disappointed with the Hydromancy demo. I get that it was short to hurry the students to bed, but I was hoping for something a bit more. . . flashy."
Jenna nodded and smiled lightly as Leith finished, Deven didn't seem to react but he was definitly listening. As Leith changed the subject Deven found himself rather glad, the subject made him feel slightly on edge and brought up sour emotions to further put strain on his already damaged mood.
"I liked almost all of them save for two that I am sure you can guess, the Vitamancy demonstration most definitly had my interest.You do have a point though the Hydromancy demontration felt half assed. Hurried or not they still could have done more." Jenna commented her tone anything but hostile or angry.
Deven nodded as she spoke, "As did I, but I especially enjoyed the Pyromancy demonstration, really brought a light to a different aspect of the magic, one I barely knew existed. And I must agree about the Hydromancy demonstration, it felt like little effort was put into it, the others had been so showy. Like you said even if it was hurried I am sure there was so much more they could have done." Deven commented, once more acting as casual as he could.
The trio were beginning to near the dinning hall and already the smell of the assorted breakfast filled the air. "Leith, care to join us for breakfast?" Jenna offered happily. "I am afraid we wont be eating long though as we do have plans to go do some training in the gym after we are done, but you are still welcomed to join us." She added a second later, Deven nodding in agreement as she spoke.
Leith thought about the offer then nodded with a smile. "Sure. It'd be better than eating alone or with someone I don't know." When they reached the dining hall, the smell was almost intoxicating. His stomach growled loudly, reminding him that he didn't eat that much at dinner the night before. With an embarrassed smile, Leith spoke to Deven and Jenna.
"Well, I'm not sure about you, but I'm going to grab something to eat before my stomach eats itself."
Jenna smiled warmly as he accepted her offer, when they stepped into the mess hall they were welcomed with a strong aroma of the cooking foods that was sure to make even the fullest's mouthes water. Deven's eyes scanned around the room and settled on the teachers table. An un easy feeling welled up in his gut and he felt a lump begin to form in his throat, it felt as though the air around him had dropped severly and he began to feel goosbumps running up his arms. He swalloed in a vain attempt to force away the lump that had formed as his eyes bore into the tables, slowly moving from each chair, when he blinked he was greeted with a image from his dreams, each one of the chairs cracked and broken.
It was only when Leith spoke up was he broken from his trance, his gaze slowly breaking from the chairs and switching to the pale human beside them.
"Alright, I will procure us a table while you two go get food." Jenna replied. "You mind grabbing me a plate Deven? I know you will know what I'd like." She added a second later towards Deven. "Will do." Deven replied in a forced casual tone.
Once Jenna had stepped away to find a table Deven's gaze once more returned to scanning the room, this time his eyes settled on the headmaster Khan who was returning to his table to eat. The lump only seemed to grow as he watched the headmaster, who he had seen dead the night before in his dream. It was surreal, seeing him walking perfectly unharmed, when hours ago his blood was decorating his seat at the teacher's table.
Deven swallowed uneasily, before forcing his gaze to move to Leith, "Well, lets see what they have to eat shall we?" He asked eager to find something to distract his troubled shaken thoughts.
Leith nodded and made his way to the table filled with food. He had noticed Deven space out, and was curious as to what had caused it. When they got to the table, Leith grabbed a plate and started layering it with food. It had been a while since he had a big meal. When he was done filling his plate, he decided to broach the subject.
"Are you okay? Because it looked like you saw a ghost back there." Leith looked around the room to find Jenna as he waited for an answer.
As they approached the table Deven busied himself by making both his and Jenna's plates, trying to the best of his ability to keep his mind from wandering. He filled the two plates with a decent amount of food. By the time he had finished he was sure that his eyes were not being bigger then his stomach. His eyes lifted towards the plates of the others around him. Many of them seemed to fill their plates. To take more then they surely needed, but that was not a problem here...like Winterfell everything seemed to have an abundant excess here. He was once more reminded of how much his life had changed.
He had gone from some of the lowest society has to offer and into this, this world of aboundance. The memories of nights were he was forced to go to bed hungry all because he wasn't able to steal himself some food seemed so far away now, so foreign now. How odd it was that there were ever any that were forced to go to bed hungry when there was this much food in the world. Deven struggled to keep his mind on the topic for as long as he could, it was distracting him from the other train of thought that lurked in his mind looking for a way to leap into the light.
But soon his thoughts, were interrupted as someone spoke up. His eyes shifted to Leith as he spoke. Deven forced an expression of confusion, "hmm?" He replied as though he was not sure what Leith spoke of, before he pretended to remember, trying to make it seem as though it was not that important. "Oh, that...it was nothig, don't worry about it. Just....just thinking." He said his voice drifting off slightly. It was then that another voice spoke up.
"Hey, guys over here." Jenna said in a raised voice so she could be heard above the crowd.
While the others had been getting their food Jenna had been looking for a empty table for their small group, but she had been stopped along the way when a man, approached her, she had never spoken to the man let alone seen him around. But he seemed dedicated to change that. He started out friendly asking her if she was looking for someone or something. To whitch she replied in her usual friendly attitude and told him she was merely looking for a table for her and her friends. But a few more quesions later and his tone had changed to a much more flirtatious tone. As it did Jenna's tone remained friendly but she did her best to make it clear she was not interested.
Her patience on the situation was abundant until the point were he lifted his hand and attempted to brush her hair back behind her ear, at which point, she made her leave by inhaling uncomfortably and pushing the man away, not making eye contact and fast walking to the nearest empty table. Once there she immediately began looking for Deven and Leith who she hoped would be done with making their plates, so she would not have to be alone. Once she saw them she called them over and took her seat.
Leith turned to look at Deven when he started speaking, and nodded his head when the man dismissed the question. It seemed like Deven had something that he'd rather not talk about, and Leith was okay with that, but it did make him curious. When Jenna called to them, Leith looked in her direction and made his way to her table, Deven right beside him. He spoke again to try and alleviate the slightly awkward silence that hung over them
"So, what made you decide to come to the college? Just find out about your blood, or is it for other reasons? My reason is that I wanted to see what I could do with my blood. My dad died a while before I left, so I thought 'hey, why not?'"
Deven couldn't help but feel glad Leith hadn't pushed the subject, he was in no mood to talk about it, let alone to anyone but Jenna. As they began walking towards Jenna's table Leith spoke up, Deven listened to Leith's question and his own answer to the question, once Leith had finished Deven thought for a moment before answering. "Well, we have known our bloods for a while now. We've been training at our home with some hired trainers and some of Jenna's family members but, Jenna's family eventually decided it would be better if we trained here at the college, that we would receive a much better magical education here then there. Both her and I loved the idea, so here we are." Deven answered, speaking in partial for both him and Jenna.
As Deven was talking, the buzzing in Leith's head started getting louder and louder. It got to the point where it was almost painful. Leith winced and held a hand up to his head before looking around the room. As he had thought, Althalus was sitting at a table, his back to them. He was talking to a well-dressed man. Leith noticed with a slight bit of dismay that if they continued walking in the direction they were going, they'd pass right by Althalus.
Leith didn't want a repeat of the night befroe, so he changed his direction and walked around another table, putting as much distance between him and Althalus as he could without it looking like he was avoiding the man. When they got to the table, Leith set his plate down and started eating.
As Deven finshed he looked over towards Leith and saw him on the other side of the table, he could have sworn he was right next to him a second ago but he payed no mind to it, he just kept walking towards Jenna. He made a note about how Leiths father having died and thought to ask him about it later, perferably when the was no longer a table inbetween them.
Jenna smiled gratefully as they arrived. "I'm glad you guys finished getting your food when you did or else it would be a lot more awkward now." Jenna said with a sigh. "What do you mean?" Deven asked curiously, as he asked Leith looked up from his plate seeming to be interested as well.
"Oh its nothing really, just some guy stepping over some boundaries." Jenna said gesturing in the direction of the man. "I think I sent a clear enough message though, he should leave me alone." Jenna said confidentally as Deven handed her, her plate.
"Poor guy didn't know what he was getting himself into, I almost envy him." Deven teased, his tone still pretty somber. "Yeah I am sure you do, cause I am such a pain to deal with." Jenna retorted sarcastically. Deven smiled lightly and chuckled at her before taking a bite from his food. "Im teasing, but if he does give you more trouble, you know I am here to help." Deven said smiling reassuringly at her. "Oh I feel so much safer. Guess I won't be needing to send a message back to Wintercrest for an army to come and detain him." Jenna replied teasingly. "Yeah, yeah you can handle yourself, no need to be so snippy." Deven said in mock annoyance before he smiled at her.
Jenna smiled back before she noticed Leith again, "Sorry Leith, didn't mean to leave you behind in the conversation there. Me and Deven do that a lot, getting lost in our own talks." She said adding the last part a second later before smiling apologetically.
Leith waved off the apology "No need to apologize. I think I've had a few of those conversations myself." Leith said before he frowned slightly. Something Jenna said had struck him as odd. "Hold on a second. You just said that didn't have to send a message to get an army to detain that guy. Are you actually able to do that, or was that more of a joke than anything."
While the question made him feel foolish for asking it, Leith felt extremely curious about what Jenna had just said.
Jenna smiled at Leith, happy he wasn't offended before she took a bite of her food. As she swallowed he spoke up again. As he finished she chuckled lightly before answering, "Well, it's kinda true, I mean, I doubt they would send an army, maybe just like three or four of the Royal guards, or maybe just some soldiers. One of my family members would probably come too. But they wouldn't send anyone for something as simple as, 'Oh he annoyed me and was being flirty.' No they would need to have a much greater reason then that." Jenna answered naively forgetting Leith had no knowlegde of her being royalty in WIntercrest.
Leith stared at Jenna for a couple moments before shaking his head to clear it. He attempted to speak, but all he accomplished was opening and closing his mouth a few times. He cleared his throat and tried again.
"Who-" his voice cracked, making him cough. "Who are you?"
Jenna looked away from Leith and took a bite of her food before looking back towards him, she saw him struggling to speak as he looked rather astonished, she cocked her head to the side in confusion as she chewed waiting for him to speak. When he spoke, his voice cracked and he coughed but eventually finished. As he did Jenna looked oddly at him not sure what he meant before realization struck her.
She slapped the palm of her hand against her forhead as she spoke, "Oh, wow, how could I be so forgetful, you don't know." She said a little embarrassed. "Yeah, so um, my name is Jenna Fellrien, as in house Fellrien of Wintercrest. Yeah my family is the rulers of Wintercrest and newly of Redwood." Jenna answered awkwardly , "Yeah, I probably should have started with that shouldn't I have." Jenna said looking towards Deven with a unsure smile.
Deven laughed and nodded, "Yeah there was a much more graceful way to go about that. But yours works too, maybe a little surprising for those that don't know but, it works." Deven replied in a teasing tone. As he finished the two looked back to Leith.
Leith listened to Jenna explain, his confusion turning into amusement. When they looked back at him, he started chuckling. "Well, I wasn't expecting that, but now I know why the name Fellrien sounded so familiar. I must have overheard someone talking about it when I was working for a herbalist. You won't believe how much gossip I've heard in those five years." Leith looked at Deven. "So does that make you her friend slash bodyguard?"
"Yeah, we've been making a name for ourselves." Jenna said chuckling slightly. When Leith asked his question of Deven she chuckled even harder. Deven looked a little offended at the question but quickly threw away the feeling. Instead just shaking his head before responding, "No, not really, I am no bodyguard. It's a complicated situation that I really don't feel like explaining right now. Just know I am no bodyguard." He stated plainly before taking a bite of his food. "Deven is just as important to house Fellrien as I am, he is no bodyguard. Besides, if anything, we are each others bodyguards. I watch his back just as much as he watches mine." Jenna said answering it in more detail then Deven had.
Leith nodded at Jenna's explanation. "Well it's good to know that you aren't as fragile as other people in your position." He stood up, grabbing his empty plate. "It's been nice, but I think that I should find out where my class is. See you around." And with that, Leith put his plate away and left the dining hall
Jenna smiled at Leith at his comment, "Thank you, I never want to be as fragile as some of the nobles I have seen." Jenna said thankfully. As Leith stood and spoke of his classes and excused himself Deven and Jenna both said their goodbyes before finishing the last of their food off. Once they were done eating the two took care of their plates and made their way to the gym. They planned to train a bit before they went off hunting for their classes.
Ssarak Dyreackthanose
Ssarak was relieved that Satori had no objections to him bringing Alaira to the infirmary. Perhaps whatever she did to the Forest Elf was not intentional? Or perhaps she was simply skilled at obfuscating her intentions? Either way, Ssarak found a gargoyle and made his way to the infirmary as quickly as possible, which, admittedly, was rather slow given his fatigue. He explained to the healer present the events which led to her fall into unconsciousness, then took his leave and returned to his room to drop off his axe.
The gargoyles were, again, instrumental in helping him find Satori's classroom. Fortunately, he arrived not long after she began and was able to find a seat without disturbing anyone. For Ssarak, he actually learned little from the first lecture. His own, limited instruction from his clan had at least gone into the basic principles of his mageblood, but he knew well that she had much more to teach than what a single lecture could convey. He was dubious about the efficacy of the thin sheets of metal she passed out and had a hard time believing they could actually work. After all, if a common metal could block psychomantic attacks, then it would be useless against most soldiers in battle, as well as many other scenarios. There would be no reason for a mage to pursue Psychomancy over Noxomancy. Perhaps she simply wanted them to believe it would work? He simply packed it away and would likely end up forgetting about it. What he found more interesting, however, was the Investigation Team Satori mentioned. If he could gain an opportunity to help improve the safety and well-being of the college and its students, what reason would he have to refuse?
After class, Ssarak returned to his room, not quite wanting to sleep, but definitely needing to relax. He sat on his bed with his back against the wall, ruminating on the day's events. Given his current state, he would need to cancel his normal endurance training for the day, and he would be unable to practice his psychomancy until the next day at least. He would probably be unable to read another's mind intentionally at the moment, let alone accidentally. Honestly, about the only thing that remained for him to do was to have dinner.
Aruna was sitting there reading the books the golem had brought her. She found the material very confusing and difficult to grasp, but then again she had only very limited knowledge of how to read. She had the knowledge, sure, but she rarely used the talent and had difficulty working out the words. What she was able to make out made almost no sense to her. She sighed angrily and slammed the book onto her lap with a THUMP.
She closed her eyes and just sat there. She had already eaten the soup next to her bed (It was delicious), memorized the room and been over every corner she could see (six times), and had gone through every probable and several improbable methods someone would attack her and she could defend herself. In other words, she was bored. She tried to think of why anyone would attack her, beyond the reasons she already knew. (Just in case Lidda was mistaken about it having been a guard) but she couldn’t think of any other reason than because she was a haf-breed. She hadn’t offended anyone she thought, she hadn’t had time to.
She was also becoming increasingly annoyed at herself. No matter what she did her thoughts always returned to one thing, and the less she had to occupy herself the more her mind began to return to it. Deven. She hated how his thought seemed to consume the rest. How a simple thought about him would destroy her concentration in s second, no matter what she was doing. Seriously, she’d only met him once and he had been required to save her life. He probably thought she was a clumsy ditz who couldn’t save herself. And he’d be right, plus she was a half-breed. He couldn’t possibly think anything about her other than ‘wow, she’s weird’, so what was the point in torturing herself.
But the thoughts still came, so instead of succumbing to her feelings of longing, she fell deep into her suspicion. She let herself image all the horrible things he could want in return for saving her life. She made herself think bad things about him. She used the part of herself that she could always trust, her paranoia. He’s just like everyone else Aruna, no matter what he says. He wants something in return, but he’ll bide his time to tell you what it is. He’s a horrible person, just you wait and see. But then another art of her spoke up, a part of her she hadn’t even realized was there. So why are you still thinking about him?
It was for this reason why when Mei spoke to Aruna she jumped and her back let out a scream of pain. She bit her lip and then forced out a smile to her roommate. "Nothing, it was just an accident. I was... Disturbed by the psychomancy demonstration and went for a flight," she motioned to her bandages," it didn't end well. What about you, why are you here?"
Zaad was in a foul mood since the feast. His four red eyes were fiery red, bright with anger and resentment, while they panned the hallways he now roamed. The demon’s body shifted from a wall shadow and easily crept to the hall’s center before he started to make his way towards the courtyard. He had made sure to avoid Khan since his nasty reaction towards that arrogant Wood Elf, mainly to keep his Demonomancer’s wrath at a minimal after their little chat. It ended up being Zaad having his ass chewed out and followed by Khan’s threats to have his privileges revoked if he ever raised a hand towards another under the College’s protection. Currently most the students were now either at lunch or in their classrooms, the faint sounds of the teacher’s voices and lessons thrummed throughout the hallowed walls like a soft melody common within the College. His body relaxed a little when he felt the risk of running into Khan was less than before as he did his patrol duty.
Out of the corner of his eyes, he spotted a steel Golem hauling a large, strange wolf like animal towards the kitchens. The corpse’s fate was likely to be burnt to ashes, may be prepared for the evening meal if there wasn’t anything wrong with the meat yet Zaad seriously doubted the later. He paused long enough to see the Golem’s form disappear towards the kitchen, and then continue along.
Auriel was wandering the halls almost at random, wondering what to do until the class started. She only knew a very small number of people, and while it wasn’t too hard to find more, she thought it might be more fun for the moment to check up on one of those she did know. Trying to hunt down Althalus would be difficult, the golems probably didn’t keep tabs on where students were, but Zaad was one of Khans demons. That would make it easier to find him, at least she hoped that was the case.
She walked up to the nearest Gargoyle and spoke to the statue, hoping it was one of the guides and not just a statue. “Take me to Zaad.” Was all she said, expecting some rude response back from the rock. Instead, it raised its eyebrows and looked at her like she had just started talking to an inanimate object. “Seriously?” It said in its rough grumbling voice. She put on a scathing look and replied to it. “Yes seriously you useless chunk of rock. And hurry up about it.” It wordlessly stood from its alcove and started walking slowly down the corridor. Auriel had an urge to kick the useless lazy rock to speed it up, but thought better of it at the last minute.
Zaad hadn’t made it very far when he heard something. It was the familiar grumbling, whining and over all heavy stepping of a stone gargoyle, namely a older one by the sounds of it because it seemed rather bitter about something. Naturally the demon’s curiosity got the better of him as he leaned towards its origins, listening carefully. It was slightly amusing to hear the low rumbling insults followed by the much lighter steps that trailed behind. He had almost missed the second set if he was completely silent, breath and all.
Slowly the demon pressed himself against the nearest shadow. His form hissed and shifted, vanishing into the black spot until he was completely invisible to the naked eye. His sight watched as the stone creature came into sit. It’s low slung body wobbled towards the area where Zaad was and then point a thin arm at the wall, his gravelly voice thick with annoyance.
“There… that’s your target. Enjoy…” Without another word, the statue turned on heel back to its stand. He gave a loud grunt, a softer comment under his breath which Auriel would’ve only been able to make out two clear words: stupid and wood elf.
Auriel had followed the thing for several minutes when it finally arrived. Or at least it said they’d arrived. She stood looking at the wall for a second, then turned when she heard the Golem start to leave. “Where the hell do you think you’re going you idiot? This is an empty wall!” It ignored her and kept walking. She ran after it and got in front of it, though it only slowed. “Hey, you aren’t getting off that easy.” It looked at her with a pitying expression. “There really isn’t anything you can do Elf. Go back to your demon friend before you hurt yourself or something.” It kept walking, leaving a very frustrated Auriel stuck in the middle of the corridor. She hated to admit it, but there was nothing she could do. She couldn’t very well restrain or hurt a walking statue. “Great.” She said to herself sarcastically. “This day just gets weirder and weirder.”
Zaad inwardly smirked at the scene presented to him. It was an all too perfect situation to get even with that bitch, this chance was likely the only one he would get and he fully intended to take it. His eyes shifted to her shadow, the one by her feet, then to the darkest part of the hallway where the large trees blocked much of the reddish light from the twilight scenery. Immediately he threw his voice first. To Auriel, it would sound like it came from the other end of the hallway as he made sure to use her favorite nickname.
“You’ll never get very far with those things, Dollface.”
Auriel turned at the sudden noise of Zaads voice. It seemed like the Gargoyle wasn’t quite as wrong as she’d thought after all. “Come out you coward! Scared i’ve got another candle with me?” she yelled down the hall at the demon.
Zaad’s anger towards her comments were restrain at the sight of her. She didn’t realize how much of a fool she looked like after all, not like him who had a front row seat. He had to stop himself from snickering while he pushed his hands through the shadow, the solid form became vaporous before they popped up at the Wood Elf’s feet. Again, he spoke from across the hall. “Tsk, tsk, Dollie, you were the one looking for moi. Which as far as I’m concerned means you want something and after that little stunt you pulled, why the hell should I care? Besides… I’m surprised you’re still in the College after your attempt on the Psychomancer teacher and it’s a pity you couldn’t finish the job. Then again, maybe you can’t?”
“I don’t know Zaad? Maybe you’ve decided to have a complete change of heart and become a nice person[i/]. Then again, as far as I know, the inferno hasn’t frozen over yet.” The reminder of the Psychomancers little trick and Auriels failed attempt to kill the stupid woman over it did manage to rile her up. “I can, sandy, and I will kill her. Just not now. It’d be a lot faster if you would help. Then again, you’re too much of a coward for anything like that.”
Zaad chuckled at the suggestion having now found a key point to attack. His voice became a little more acidic, resentment at her last poured thickly on in his answer. “And why would I want to do that? After all, I’m a dog on a leash, aren’t I? To be honest… I don’t think you [i]will
ever be able to kill her. Not if that little candle ploy is the best of your ability and I’ve yet to see anything better from you.”
The demon then pushed his head through the shadow where it appeared to emerge from the hallway across her. His red eyes betrayed his location while he smirked at her shortcomings and continued to bait her. “You can’t even do much to me so why should I believe you can be anything more than a pitiful weakling?”
Auriel jumped as she saw the demons face emerge from the wall, stifling a scream that would have been decidedly more girly than she liked. “Just you wait demon. I plan on turning you into a nice decoration for my room. Maybe I’ll even hang things on you. That way you’ll be useful, and the fact that you’re a coward won't stop it.” She feigned mocking surprise then and kept talking “Oh but I forgot about your little leash. Maybe your boss won’t let me use you as a statue. Or maybe we’ll just trade you between rooms. And there isn’t a thing you could do about except whine, like the whiny coward you are.”
Zaad just rolled his eyes at her, inwardly pleased when he spotted the Wood Elf flinch at his head’s appearance and liked the fact it didn’t take much to make her jump. His face however turned into a frown when the woman mentioned Khan’s leash and his cowardice again. That’s it… he thought bitterly then pulled back into the shadows. “Seems like all you can do is repeat yourself, Dollface. Not very creative are you?”
Before she could move, he reacted, completely impatient with the wait. His hands gripped her ankles suddenly while all parts of him then gathered to the shadow underneath her and emerged from it. Zaad rose higher while his hands still fastened to where they took hold and hover there, dangling Auriel there. She was just high enough that if he let go it would cause at least a sizable goose egg upon her head.
“Now...what were you saying? Dollface?”
Auriel shrieked as she suddenly found herself being swept up into the air. It had been his plan to do something like this all along it seemed. She could feel that her long hair was just barely touching the ground - that meant she was high enough that it would be unpleasant to fall. She glanced around for a way out, but was only met with Zaads snarling face. “Fine. Fine. You beat me. You win. This time. Now put me down?”
Auriel hated getting beaten. She’d have to come up with a plan to get back at Zaad, though unfortunately that wasn’t as easy as she’d’ve liked. In the mean time, not getting injured was priority enough for her.
“That was for tossing a damn candle into my face and the trouble you, you little whore, caused me.” Zaad growled, his hands still held her upright. “Now, we’re fucking even.”
With that, he lowered her down but when he hit the height where she wouldn’t be injured, he promptly let her drop. He figured she would end up landing on her ass as he started to move away from the downed female and finish out his duty. His sand shifted along the height he had lowered down, where he could easily be face to face with Auriel, with his word behind him. “Keep in mind, that’s not the worse I could do…”
Auriel tumbled to the ground in an awkward heap before she could do anything to stop it. She quickly leapt back to her feet, in a very ungraceful manner, and turned to Zaad again. “We’re just getting started you bastard!” She wasn’t entirely angry, more surprised that she’d met her match. Unfortunately she’d have to wait to get back at him though. “Go on! Run!” She stuck her tongue at at his retreating form and made a face, doing her utmost to mock him.
“If that’s the best you can do, I’m really, really scared.” He said in his sandy voice, clearly the very opposite. Zaad started to round the corner but instead of just moving on, he stopped as he was pissed at her comment. Without warn and rather fast, his hand shot out into another shadow. Again it appeared under Auriel and attempt to grip the foot and if gripped, he intended to jerk it forwards where she would end up on her ass end.
Auriel felt another hand on her foot. She was mid-curse when her leg was yanked right out from under her and she fell straight down, her curse turning into another shriek as she landed on her ass. “Damn you Zaad!” She shouted after him. It’d be uncomfortable sitting for the rest of the day now.
Mei calmed herself when Aruna told her she was alright. After what happened yesterday, with her memory slightly jogged, she was amazed there weren't riots. It was horrific what happened! But she didn't want to bring it up. She was sure it was hard on everyone. They would get over it on their own time. "I, uh, came in for the same reason. I guess. I haven't been feeling well since yesterday and I wanted to make sure it wasn't anything serious... But by gods, it's... I don't think it's that much of an issue anymore really. I'm glad you're alright though. How long do you think it'll take before you're be able to get back up and around?' Mei took a seat near Aruna. She felt responsible for this somehow. Mei was so worried about herself she didn't even bother to make sure Aruna made it back. Sure they had a bit of a rough start, but she seemed nice. instead Mei was more interested in nursing her own aches and pain, while it looked like Aruna was attacked! In a sorry attempt to try to make up for things she had no control over, Mei offered to help her. "Is there anything I can do to help? I mean, you seem really bored, so maybe I could find something for you to do?"
Mar's Predicament...
Khan was sitting in his office, his meal finally over after having lasted longer because of his conversation with Ponders, as his eyes flickered across the words scribbled out in Lucilia’s elegant handwriting. When he was done, the parcel was then placed into one of the many haphazard piles upon the long wooden desk elegant and despite their chaotic appearance, each had a certain purpose and distinct topic related to the papers within. Some required his signature while others merely made a listing about the College’s current ledger being kept in the black. Though he seemed hard at work, Khan’s mind wasn’t completely focused upon his task as it should’ve been. Instead it wandered back to his conversation with Ponders several things in the dull chore, unable to jerk away.
A slight worry had edged into his mind about the Student, whether he would’ve been able to find life suitable or able to adjust well enough to learn about his blood, until finally the hand holding his latest paper slammed lightly upon the desk top. It was more than mildly irking that his mind refused to focus on the boring task and now kept distracting him from the more important needs for the College. Once again he lowered his eyes to try to resume without drifting only to hear a loud ‘Ahem’ suddenly. At the sound, Khan’s horned head lifted to the armor suit which served for his secretary and watchman with a raised eyebrow. He was clearly annoyed at the timing but there was little he knew would do any good and instead sighed while his hand placed the paper once again.
His body leaned forward and hands folded in front of his face, tone calm. “What is it?”
The armor, Bisbee, had a hollowed, echoing voice sounded off. The volume was loud and military like which gave a slight about how long the armor had been around, the last occupant of the office was a guard captain and some habits stuck firmly. “Sir, student approaching, coming at a fast clip and will arrive shortly.”
“At ease, Bisbee, and resume watch.” Khan said in a firm matter before his hands started to tuck away the stock within a drawer of his desk.
The door opened shortly after the last of his papers were stashed away and locked up, each drawer had a lock rune which was made to interact to his touch or a simple word alone. Unless someone knew the word, Riddic, then it was unlikely anyone would’ve been able to get to them as he faced the student who had barged into his office.
A man, the very one who had flown during the Electromancy demostration, now stood before him and seemed rather winded. He didn't sit when Khan's hand indicate so with a gesture but instead started to speaking about the Naga and something about Lucilia needing his attention right away. Immediately Khan's head jerked to the suit of armor and spoke to it.
"Find Lidda, tell her to meet us at Lucilia's office now." Without talking much to the man, Khan shot out of the door and made his way to the Herbamancer's office soon enough.
Lucilia made sure to keep Mar's vitals in check. She didn't know much about naga bodies, but if it was anything like a human one, Mar might be in a slight shock once she comes too. Nothing serious of course, but the last thing they needed was for Mar to start freaking out in the middle of the meeting. Still, there was a lot on her mind. There was still the matter of assigning that new guardsman, Colette was oddly quiet today, and Underhaven was always having problems. But now Mar was pregnant. How? Normally she didn't involve herself with the naga; she was Tyrael's responsibility, and Lucilia wanted as little to do with him as she could. But Mar was never a star student. She was bashful, didn't really fit in. Lucilia couldn't blame her, but she'd hope that she would be able to adapt. Part of her wishes that maybe this baby was a product of Mar's attempts to get along with the college, but that had it's own problems that did little to solve the ones they had before. Mar was always trouble, and if it weren't for Tyrael's vouching Mar would have been at least suspended for some of the things she's done. She had no idea how the others would react to this thought. They knew so little about what had happened, and what she did know didn't make her any more comfortable.
There was another thing that she picked up after she verified Mar's pregnancy. Saliva, and neither human nor naga. It was faint, almost bare none, but it was caught in some of her hair. Eysire saliva. But how...? They would need to ask these two some verious serious questions once everyone was here.
Soon Lidda and Khan came through the doors, with Althalus behind them. "You wait outside." She commanded Althalus. She didn't really give him a choice either, closing the door when the two teachers came in. Once inside Lucilia began to explain her findings. Althalus might be able to hear some of it, but Lucilia's door was really thick. "... No recently signs... Child is already forming... Assume who the father is, but we would need... We should not tell him, not yet... Something will be done..."
It was mostly hushed voices, but everyone involved raised their voices at some point, allowing small leaks of what was being talked about. Lucilia tried her best not to get involved and provided only what she discovered from Mar, but she made her own opinion known. Someone was going to have to take responsbility for this.
Khan's hand was pressed against his temple, his head ached worse now then he ever remembered upon hearing Lucilia's words. This wasn't good in his mind and even worse now that a young life was involved. Ever since the Naga had came through the doors, following Tyrael, she had been trouble and nothing the teachers or the staff had done seemed to help. Already, she threatened another Naga student and now she could've killed another which didn't settle well with him.
Out of the corner of his eyes, he watched Lidda tend to the Naga and her child in a similar fashion as Lucilia. Likely more to have something to do while the conversation began. The worse part was that it all fell on his shoulders to make a choice he didn't want to.
"I have little choices here...She nearly killed a student...Child or no child, I must think of the other students' safety over her..." Khan's voice rumbled, his anger and unwanted decision felt through his words.
Lidda's own voice came out in protest, her hands pressed into the table as she defended, more the baby then the mother, against the choices offered. "You fight to keep Alaira and she's just as... Why the child pay..."
"Are you willing to have..." Khan's reasoning was tossed at Lidda who suddenly fell silent.
There was a awkward quiet which followed before Khan's voice broke it.
"I don't want... It's the only... Either I banish her or someone..." He said with a firm tone, his teeth gritted a bit against the bitterness he felt swelling inside. His arms were crossed over his chest, his steps heavier with each one while he made his way towards the still out cold Naga. "If there was another explaination..."
"We don't know about Naga... isn't normal or some other reason..." Lidda started only to be cut short by Khan.
"We don't what is..."
"So you're happy condemning her child and her.."
Lucilia spoke up, her voice solid and monotous. It wasn't as hush as the others, mostly because she was trying to contain some strong emotions. "We have to get everyone here... When she wakes up, we will have to talk to her and... Have to make a choice... Hear them out, but no more chances. She can't keep doing this."
Around this same time, Tyrael had dumped the couch in front of a random student's dorm room. He was getting pretty bored of hauling that thing around and wanted to go back to his forge. He had an idea for a weapon that just crossed his mind. But as he was about to go, a demon emerged from the shadows and spoke to him. Tyrael's mood soon began to turn dark. The demon sensed his magic flaring, though his body was as still as stone. His emotions were going wild, but his body was as solid as ice. He began walking away from the demon, but not towards the force. Instead he headed towards Lucilia's office, the last sight of where Mar went. He arrived there quickly, and saw the mortal human who was standing outside. Tyrael only shot him a glance, but even if the mortal man had no experince in magic, he could tell that Tyrael's wrath was enough to burn the college to the ground. It was so volitile that Khan opene the door and gave the orc a hard glare, wordlessly telling him that he needed to keep himself under control. Tyrael was struggling very hard, and he really wanted to just start cutting everyone down, but he resisted the urge. Khan closed the door, leaving the orc to wait outside next to Athalus. It was an awkward moment.
It was now evening within the college as Khan's eyes looked over the two in front of him: Tyrael and Mar. His stare showed little emotions or even a glimpse of his own thoughts, his body seated in his chair before it reclined back. Zaad and Rathel, both fully alert and capable, stood on either side of him in case Tyrael's temper got the better of him. Khan was able to handle this himself as most teachers knew very well but there was some disagreements with his option to make this more of a private affair then a public trial.
"Well, now that you're able to at least stand on your own... what do you have to say for yourself? Mind telling me why you thought it was ideal to attempt to kill a fellow student?"
Mar jawline tighten, her defense slightly silence before she shifted forward towards the Headmaster. "I don't know what happened. I merely went hunting and ended wounded as I've been wounded before, I thought nothing of it. I would've healed in time. The man noticed it, seemed concern and wanted to help, but I refused him. He didn't listen and... I believe I lashed out."
Her words struggled a bit over the memory, her fever had made the happenings rather hazy for her recall. However instead of paying it any mind, she had decided to submit to the College's Headmaster's ruling. It was strangely like her trial at Mesa Gaan, a fact she found rather hard to swallow, her fist tightened in anxiety while she swallowed down the memory.
"It was wrong of me to lash out and despite the infection, I should've controlled myself. It isn't in our nature to show aggression or extreme emotions."
Khan absorbed her words before making a reply. "How do I know this? So far you've threatened one student, a Naga male, then you've nearly murdered another student. To make matters worse, you're currently carrying a child and we only have suspicions of who the father is. If you're a danger to everyone within these walls, I can't allow you to remain here. Even with a child, that doesn't improve your situation or allow me to condone it. I made the rules clear. No harm is to come to another student and as far as I know, you were acting of your own accordance without other influences."
He started to push up from his chair then walk towards the desk front. "I've no idea if your behavior is normal for other Naga so I have little evidence stating something wasn't right."
"Master Khan, I can assure you, Mar's behavior is not like this. But she is not in a familiar envioment." Tyrael chimed up. He had to unbound himself from his demons to prevent them from influcing his mind, so he was speaking entirely out of his own thoughts. It was strange now having other voices in his head, but he didn't care about that. He needed to protect Mar. "She is in exile. She did not come here out of her own will, but she could not have stayed back in her homeland. Mar is not a violent person by nature. Indeed, if she were, I would not be here, I would not be the Master of Demonmancy if she were a violent person. But she was forced to leave her home. The home she called her own for over two hundred years. She is trying her hardest to adjust, and I am trying my best to make this place feel like home for her. But life here is different for her. She had never spent any moment of her past life living like how we do at the college. Two hundred years she lived back in her home back at the Ravine, where danger was a constant threat. You remember how difficult I had to adjust when I first arrived, yes Master Khan?" Tyrael gave him a moment to think on it. Indeed, Tyrael was rather recluse. Always in the forge making his weapons, the communication barrier making it hard for anyone to get close to him. Overtime he learned the language, earned his place at the college for his deeds and his actions, but it was not a easy road. Mistakes where made, people died. The memories of those who's blood were on his hands sometimes made him shutter to think how many of these actions were done by him, or his demons. And he did not want Mar to have to suffer the same path, or worse.
"Mar is homesick. Naga live quickly but also long lives. The monotomy of the college is not what she is use to... I know she has made her mistakes, and I will take the responsbilities for it. I had wanted her to learn to adapt, but I neglected to help her adjust. If anything, I am at fault for not keeping a close watch on her. I turned a blind eye to her own feelings, because of my own assumptions that she would be able to do what I did without my help. I was a fool, but do not punish Mar for things that I were suppose to prevent." It almost sound pathetic coming from Tyrael. He was like a parent trying to cover for their child. It was a bit embarassing for all those invovled, but Tyrael continue to do so anyways. He owed that much to her. "Most of all, please allow her to stay within the college. Not simply for the sake of her child, but because that she is still new to this place. She would not survive out there the way she would back in her home. Another exile would be a death sentence to her, exspeially in this state."
Khan turned to Tyrael, his sight over looked the glare the proud Naga tossed in the Demonomancer's direction, and spoke. "That only slightly alters things a bit and unlike hers, the Archmage and I have talked about your accidents. Namely since they weren't completely your fault as they were due to outside influences being a Demonomancer. That still brings in a need to explain her behavior or I have to expect it will happen again. I can't allow that, Tyrael. The only option, if there's a possible reason, is to have her assigned someone to watch her. Likely a teacher or a few Golems and I can't see her liking that anymore then you did."
He turned to Mar. "What made you think attacking him was the best idea?"
"I don't explain my actions because I don't understand them myself completely. Tyrael had no right to speak of my past," The Naga hissed in his direction. "I don't want pity to affect my punishment, either in my control or outside of them. Fever or not, I'm responsible for my actions. I won't take special treatment because of my past or the fact...I have to accept."
It was clear, even past her inner deny and hope, what Tyrael had said about her exile wounded her far more then the now wrapped injury. Her hand gingerly touched the white bandage as she inhaled and continued. "I'm not Tyrael's responsibly and regardless of what brings him to determine such notions doesn't change that fact. I can't take back or undo what I've done, merely accept the punishment and be done with it."
Khan was silent, his eyes closed to think a moment through he could feel the hurt and pain from both parties within the room. "I mainly want a reasonable explanation-," He looked from Mar to Tyrael, "-from either of you to why Mar suddenly attacked then I'll make my decision. Both of you said it's unusal but I can't think of anything which would likely explain. After Lucilia's examination, I don't think a simple cut would be enough reason for one to attack."
Ah yes, that was an important factor too. One that irked Tyrael, but he would have to hold his fury for now. He was never a good talker, but he could keep this short and simple. "Mar and I went hunting earlier today. Our prey were Paratas, who's claws carry a poison that weakens the body and causes halicination. The effects of the poison is not immediate, but if left unattended..." Tyrael glanced over to Mar for just a quick beat, a silent moment shared between the two. "The effects become worse. A body unfamiliar with it will not adapt quickly enough to fight it. Had I made sure that Mar was not injured, she would have not succumbed to the effects of the Parata's poison."
Khan's eyes followed where Tyrael looked and his face showed the pieces falling in place. His next words then spoke, a faint hope, about the bacteria. "So it's reasonable Mar could've been affected by the Parata's poison which then impaired her mind. I take when Naga are wounded and confused by fever, their minds take on a more...basic sense of mind?"
His later part was directed at Mar as he looked to her. The Naga eyes hadn't dared looked in Tyrael's direction, even after she felt his, and instead answered the Headmaster's question. "Yes. Naga become more animistic when hurt, this worsens when we hit Malice Stage and then there's nothing intelligent left. Just a hollow shell with the instinct to lash out mindlessly."
"That does change things more and does make me lean from forcing you from the College. However, I want you monitored for the next month. Zaad, one of Tyrael's demons and Uicle's Golems will be with you while you tend to classes, roaming the College grounds and no more hunting." His eyes shifted to Tyrael when he said the last bit, then continued with the rest towards Mar, " You'll have Sam make scheduled medial check ups and likely have Lucilia make you something for the morning sickness as well as for the baby's health. If after the month there has been no incidents then you will be able to roam the grounds freely. This is your only choice."
Khan took a deep breath then dismissed the pair, along with Zaad while mentally whined at his task. Rathel was sent to inform Uicle as he made his way back to his work, ready to inform the other teachers of their assignments. Inwardly, he was both concern and excited about the child that would one day grace the College's hallways with her or his pattering feet. That was going to be interesting for all of them, that much he sure of.
-----That Night-----
The first opening day was largely spent by the students preparing themselves for what their future would be like. While others still needed to recover from the day before, soon enough everyone became fairly aware of how the college operates. The day had it's share of joy and tragedy, but ended like most other days do.... Usually.
But tonight was different. When the moon was up on high, and much of the college's people asleep, far north of the college deep in the nation of Djarkel, shadowy figures were busy at work. Dark and ominous chanting echoed among those gathered there tonight. Among them was a short human mortal. Despite being smaller and physically nonthreatening compared to the massive figures flanking him, he was revered greatly by those gathered. He walked through the mass of dark cloaks until he reached the edge of a precipice. Below was unnatural light, hailing from the Inferno. As the revered figure raised his arms to the skies, the chanting began to quieten. When it became silence, he spoke.
"My children gathered here today, have you ever been to hell? I think not. Did you know that once hell was nothing more than the absence of the gods? And if you've ever been in their presence, you'd realize that's punishment enough. But then your kind came along... And made it so much worse." One by one, each cloaked figure revealed themselves to being young, obviously magically enthralled men and women from around the world. Mortals of all races. They had a blank look on their face, but their eyes said all that needed to be known. The suffering they've been through, and the hatred that they held in their hearts.
"Evil...Is an ABSTRACT! It's a MORTAL. CONSTRUCT. But, true to their irresponsible nature, the mortals will not own up to being it's creator, so they blames their dark deeds on spawn of sin. But it's not enough to shadow their own existence, no! They turned Hell into a suffering pit! Why? Because it is beyond your abilities to make personal recompense for the sins you commit! No, you choose, rather, to create a psycho-drama, and dwell in a foundless believe that 'The Gods could never forgive your grievous offenses'! So you bring your guilt and your inner decay with you to Hell, where the horrid imaginations of so many gluttons for punishment gave birth to the sickness that has infected the Pit since the first one of your kind arrived there, begging to be punished! And in doing so, they have transformed the cold and solitude into pain and misery! I've spent eons, privy to the flames, inhaling the decay, hearing the wail of the damned! I KNOW WHAT EFFECT SUCH HORRORS HAVE ON THE DELICATE PSYCHE OF ANGELIC BEING!"
Removing his own cloak and rising into the air, the short figure revealed to be a Fallen Angel. No reaction from those gathered there tonight, but nonetheless the angel continued it's rant. "I'd rather not exist than return to such a place. But if everyone else must go down with me, so be it." The Fallen Angel floated above the Inferno Pit, and one by one the mortal thralls moved forward, falling to their deaths. Many would die, reduced to a stain against the rocks, but many more would fall into the Inferno itself, feeding the beast beyond. Four hours the thralls walked to their deaths, hundreds of thousands of people, young, with the potential of life and opportunity, instead filled with a hatred and suffering that perpetuated the existence of the Inferno. By the time the last sacrifice was offered, the angel's wings stopped moving, folding over his own body as he too fell into the pit. One more person arrived, but he did not remove his cloak, nor did he fall to his doom. Instead, he simply began to chuckle. That chuckle turn into a laughter, a loud, maddening laughter. It went on and on and on, until soon the figure turned back towards the pit. "Oh master of our Salvation, you who would free us from our eternal damnation. The proginator of all demonkind, lord of sin and master of evil. King of the accursed and unwanted... Our one and only true God, Kudd-Gro'Feesah. What is your command?"
-----Winter Solstice-----
Many months passed. Though the college had it's ups and downs, they managed to reach the Winter season with a solid student body of around two thousand people. From their first day coming to the college to the day they woke up, they have been hard at work improving and mastering their magics. Not only that, but many of the students have been working for the college's interest outside of their usual school work, offering their talents as mages as well as other additional services provided by the college people. Around this time, the greenery of the college fades away for a white coat of snow. Despite the weather dipping into the negatives most days, many of the students and staff find the weather appealing. Those who did not would still find comfort in the college itself, which had many amenities to ensure that the more sensitive students were not left to fend for themselves against the weather. Hearths fire burning eternally with a mixture of runic magic and Inferno Flames, warm drinks served to ward off the chill while also keeping it's students strong, and many constructs meant to help unlucky students recover from freezing and being lost.
Many even found time to use their magic for utility purposes. Many Pyromancers were employed solely for their ability to gather warmth for others, and even Crytomancers have been needed to deal with the sheer amount of ice slips that blankets the college. Lucilia, always ready, even still had certain plants and flora that could use an herbmancer's touch for the harsh winter nights, ensuring that they too had something to do this season. Even for those who did not use magic often would be offered a chance to earn some spending money with jobs around the college. Hunting had become one of the main activities around the college, and even the demon orc Tyrael has offered worthy students a chance to hunt in the Ravine, of course under heavy supervision.
Today was a special day for the college as well. Today was an annual gathering of Eania's and Djarkel's representatives to show their support of the college, putting aside their differences for the sake of the future mages. At least that's what it's suppose to be. In truth and as always, many of the College's staff work tirelessly to ensure that the illusion of the meeting was not broken. Because the truth of the matter was that both nations expected the college to support each of their causes, which often involved going against one another. As always, the college plays as a mediator for both parties involved, with both of them pressuring the college to take a side. Ultimately, it was up to the Archmage to make the final decision, and many of them in the past had always made sure to remain a neutral party. But this winter, the current Archmage was still sickly, with the Headmaster Khan taking his role as the college leader. The burden was his alone to share, with the fate of the college in his hands, as always.
Today there was a certain air of celebration that was not linked to any particular holiday or college celebration. It was thanks to the meeting between the two nations that brought this festive feeling around. Though it was mostly between the two nations, many various interest groups of both nations of Eania and Djarkel came to the college as well, to recruit students or simply make their appearance. Other organizations from other nations were also present, and like Eania and Djarkel, where vying for the college's support. Luckily they did not have as much as a presence as the nation's dignitaries. Where as a group of merchants would come in with a large caravan of fifty people and ten wagons, the transportation for simply a representative of Djarkel consisted of over five hundred soldiers, one hundred wagons of various sizes, many types of beasts of burden, and at least fifty Warlocks. Eania's own was almost equal in number, but boasted impressive war machines. It was rather unnerving seeing the two nation's armies so close to one another, more importantly near the college itself. And due to the meeting, Tyrael's had increased the number of demons present, but also all of them disguised. They had no intention of starting a war here, but they were not about to let it spark either. Should either nation attempt to attack one another, they would find that the college is more than capable of opposing either army. But they did not come here to measure the length of their masculinity. This was suppose to be a peaceful celebration.
The day began early in the morning, at around eight to be exact. Though winter suns tend to rise later into the day, the snow on the ground reflected the light from the various sources around the college to make the entire place look as though it was mid morning. Most students sleep in, unable to defeat their warm quilt sheets in their morning battles in the fairly chilly environment. But those who would wake up would find that much of the college is already awake, and preparing for another day with the dignitaries and other sponsors.
Alaira Taenn
"Easy..." Alaira said softly as she worked on... something. "...there!" she said as she had finally finished her work. She set her tools on the desk and leaned back, admiring her handiwork. It was a light Spear, about four feet long. It's head was constructed of steel, which she had polished to a near mirror-like finish. On the side of the head (not on the blades of course) was engravings of leaves and vines, the background purposely tarnished a bit to give the leaves more contrast. inset on either side in the middle, were two small emeralds, roughly the size of a dime each. Despite its ornamentation, it was a simple weapon, steel head and end-cap, and a solid oak haft. It was pretty in its own way, but not by any means flashy. This weapon was to be given to Coco as a sort of surprise gift. She had been teaching the girl how to defend herself for the past six months, and till now she hadn't actually had a weapon of her own, just a weighted wooden training spear.
Usually, she'd see Tyrael in here about now, but he seemed absent. The poor bastard was probably off getting more demons or whatever, he seemed to be doing that a lot lately, for some reason. He was an odd sort. He was far better than she was at making things but... He didn't seem to care as deeply as she did for the end result. There was no... art in his creations, simply brutal efficiency. Then again, he could crank out a dozen swords quicker than she could make one, and all of them would be better, so maybe he was doing something right. Aside from that he was... creepy. Apparently he was the one responsible for leaving that couch outside her dorm months ago. Damn fine couch it was. Though she was sure it contained as yet unsolved mysteries...
In any event, it was time to go find Coco. Or maybe talk to Angel (Upon meeting her roommate, she had given her a nickname. Lyris is not too fond of it) or something. She hadn't really gotten to know the girl, despite living in the same room as her for half a year. She decided offloading the spear was for the best, and scooped it up as she headed out, making sure to untie her hair as well (It's not good to have untied long hair in the forge, as many idiots often found out). She decided to check the gardens first, because where else would a plant be? when she got there, she found a whole mess of plants. She'd probably never find Coco if it weren't for the fact she would answer when called. "Hey, Shrub! Get outta there!" she called.
A thin layer of white, bright and cold snow had settled onto the large gardens. Where there once were colourful flowers and green, soft grass, the white snow covered it all in a rather uniform manner. Some flowers had survived and had balled up and shriveled up somewhat as they tried to survive the harsh conditions. Near the old and overgrown cottage some of the vegetation had also survived. Even some grass peeked out from the snow, and flowers and vines lived comfortably in pots and on the walls, respectively.
Right next to the cottage's entrance and a burning, bright torch was a peculiar looking plant. Of course, this plant had some small amounts of snow on top of it as well, just like the others. With brown, abundant leaves standing on end, they seemed to follow a pattern which let the plant's leaves nearly form a perfect semi-circle. No movement came from the plant at any time, just like the flowers and vines near it.
"Hey, Shrub! Get outta there!"
At least, until a loud shout made it twitch.
Ssarak Dyreackthanose
As was usual for early mornings, Ssarak was in the gymnasium going through his daily exercises. Since winter had fallen over the land, it was about the only time he did not wear his fur coat. Instead, his vest and coat were laying on a bench in the corner while he lifted a few of the weights near the center of the room. He had eventually become comfortable enough in the college to remain unarmed unless he had specific need of his weapons and armor, which was rare outside of training. True to Khan's word, the college was a safe place, all things considered. Accidents were still a very real threat, but at least no one was intentionally trying to kill him.
Most days over the past few months had been busy for Ssarak. Between his classes, his private lessons with Satori, and the hours he spent daily on exercising and training, there was not too much time left for himself. Still, he had managed to make friends with some of his fellow students, especially other psychomancers, such as Annabeth. His dedication had certainly reflected in his abilities. He had learned more in a few months than years of individual practice had taught him. Due to his private lessons, he could manipulate his mageblood in ways that even most of his peers in Satori's class could not, or at least the ones who had not dedicated time to private instruction. He still was not entirely certain what he ultimately intended to do with the abilities he was learning, but having them at least opened up new options and opportunities for him.
Annabeth Gulch
Annabeth zipped across the ice, circling around obstacles and people. Ice wasn't a stranger to Annabeth, and in fact a common activity done during times were ice is thick on the ground was to put on special boots to cut across the ice like the wind. The shoes themselves weren't very comfortable on solid ground, but to constantly be moving lessen the pain. In the time it took a normal student to reach across the frozen courtyard Annabeth would have reached one side and back. She was able to do it even with her luggage of books, journals, and other essentials. Once Annabeth settled into the college, she stopped carrying all her weapons and other armaments. She only donned what she needed to keep out the chill, and maybe a knife for utility purposes. Even when she needed to do things like meet with her sparing partner, most of her equipment was stored at the gymnasium.
The first few weeks at the college was rough, but by making friends Annabeth was able to balance out her scheduled and enjoy herself. Underhaven, despite it's name, was almost heavenly in terms of her happiness there. Back at home she always had to suffer unruly customers and temperamental customers, unable to really deal with them aside from stating the facts and trying to make them see reason. It was something she learned to do, but not something she liked to. But at Underhaven, despite most of the customers being demons, most did not bother her aside from checking on their orders and questions about what was on the tap. And even the few that were annoying were also dealt with quickly and efficiently. After the first few deaths, she simply got used to the bouncers tearing demons apart in various ways. The boss in charge typically has her waiting tables, but Barkeep was showing her how to handle mixed drinks as well, though she had no real intention of serving drinks. She's a decent barista, but she was just in it for the money, and the work was familiar. This meant that she only worked part time; the rest of the time was spent working on her magic and training with Ssarak. Turned out she had Psychomancy, just like him. They helped each other a lot during their time together, and after a while Ssarak even offered her battleaxe training. She was skeptical at first, but after adapting it to her style she was actually making some headway. The axe was shorter and a bit heavier than most swords she's worked with, but the damage and control she had with a decent length battleaxe grew faster than it took for her to get basic handling with swordsmanship. And mixing the two styles together yielded some mixed results; her foot movements combined with the upper body control needed to handle the weight of a axe swing made her move fast with the momentum, but unlike Ssarak she lacked that raw physical strength to just stop on a dime. She needed some more training, hence why she was heading to the gymnasium.
Skating to a stop, Annabeth cleared the snow off a stone and took off her skates, replacing them with her worn but sturdy knee-length boots. They weren't the most pleasing looking boots in the world, but she had to buy them after almost all her other shoes from Eania began to wear down. They were also studded on the feet, allowing for better grip on the ground. Putting her things away Annabeth went inside, and saw Ssarak doing his usual routine. She'd wish she could have his determination, as she couldn't find it within herself to excessive everyday. Sure Annabeth always wanted to make sure to stay healthy, but she also didn't mind just tripping out on Underhaven's various spirits. Still, she came in on days like these to work out with Ssarak, both physically and magically. "Good morning Ssarak. Anything interesting happen so far?" Annabeth set Ssarak a telepathic message. It wasn't really directed to him so much as everyone near her, but it was just him there. Though he likely had his wards up, both he and Annabeth had learned how to "Filter" certain people through their Wards. Ssarak was better at it than her so far, but she was improving nonetheless.
As she waited for a responds, she began to strip down to her work out clothing; she removed her heavy jacket and thick sweater, revealing a fairly form fitting linen shirt, with it's sleeves cut off at the shoulders. Before she came to the college she had what her family called "Farmer Arms"; tan and muscular arms with bits of fat to show that she was no stranger to hard work or to eating lots of food. But now she had what she has the displeasure to call "Warrior Arms"; fairly large (For a woman her size) muscles on her upper and lower arms, hard and chiseled due to her change in diet which cut back on fatty meats and sugars. Her hands were covered in callouses and small cuts from her training and hard work, which she felt self-conscience about. They weren't very pretty to look at, and looked like man hands. But at the same time, she could lift an eighty pound barrel of ale and hurl it over the college walls, so she figured it was a fair deal to loose a bit of her physical femininity for strength. As she did some stretches, her shirt outlined what her torso was like. Unlike her arms, they weren't muscular and in fact a bit pudgy. She had quite noticeable love-handles and her stomach rounded out, though she was hardly what would pass as "Fat". To the touch it's soft and squishy, as one would expect of a pudgy belly. But dig a little deeper and soon you'd hit something solid; beneath her pudgy abdominal was still muscle, conditioned to ensure that her upper body could take the strain of the past month's worth of training. Overall, Annabeth had become more plump in appearance during her time at the college, with it's own benefits and flaws.
Ssarak Dyreackthanose
"Nothing more than staff preparing to entertain more dignitaries" Ssarak messaged back after Annabeth entered. Unless he had overexerted himself with the use of his mageblood, he almost always communicated telepathically with her, and a few other psychomancy students, for practice. Telepathy was not particularly high cost in terms of blood, but at their level, using it for extended durations could help to build endurance.
Now that Annabeth had arrived, Ssarak could more safely lift heavier weights, as she could help him in the event he dropped them. He grabbed a few extra sandbags and slung them over the pole he had been lifting, then continued to lift it as he had before. Strength in his arms was certainly important for his style of fighting, but his exercise routine neglected no part of his body. He made sure to work on muscular strength and endurance in anything from his arms and abdomen, to his legs and wings. Even his tail received some benefits from his workouts, though that was not particularly useful other than in swimming, which he had little opportunity to do since arriving at the college. Overall, his body was lean, and obviously muscular, though it had not changed a great deal since his arrival at the college. By contrast, Annabeth had gone through considerable muscular build up since they began training together, as well as gaining a slight amount of fat from her change in diet, but it was nothing that compromised her health. Her capabilities had improved proportionally with their training, though he knew she was self-conscious about some of her new features, namely her arms and calloused hands. Perhaps Ssarak was not the best judge of what humans found attractive or normal, but he felt the changes were positive ones.
"I cannot say I am particularly fond of having so many of these...guests at the college, but I suppose I understand its importance. The college needs to maintain its alliances and political standing in the world, after all. What of yourself? Any exciting news in your life?" Ssarak asked telepathically. The weights he was lifting now were straining the bounds of his abilities, though he was careful not to exert himself too greatly, in case Annabeth desired to train together after her exercises, as they had many times before over the past few months.
Khan
Khan didn’t mind the cold, bitter winter or the flakes which blanketed most of the school’s ground. Not that it really reached him within his winter wear, a thick fur coat and boots or the Pyromancer Rune rested at his neck base. The cold wasn’t the reason the Headmaster fell a heavy discomfort in his heart while his eyes watched near the gates that had opened wide for their seasonal guests. A large group, far bigger than the Opening Feast arrivals, had started to roll into the stone walls. The wheels from many transport crunched the soft, fresh snow into the ground as boots marched in unity towards the courtyard’s center before they drew to an instant halt. His eyes panned the selection now set before him, his sight keenly sought any sight of trouble among the already high tension.
Each nation showed its own might but most were dwarfed in comparison to the Djarkel and Eania armies.
To the right of the courtyard stood the Paladins, an army of vitamancers and well trained soldiers who were taught to master their fear in combat. Each standard Paladin wore the same white armor which looked like molded bone and fit well to their form, giving them a military and unified appearance. The only differences were the sizes and the markings upon the chest plate’s right breast which announced their rank. Each the weapon of choice, a saber, hung at their sides at the exact angle and position making each one looked like a mirror image of the last. It was clear Eania’s briefs for equality spread even through its army.
Djarkel’s was very much different, their own set of Warlocks seemed to once had the same identical armor, though instead it was black and seemed to be more made to intimidate then practical defense. It was a tactic which had worked in the past and even today, it made them seem ferocious. Though their main colors were black and red, the variety in their furred lined coats as well as their armor shifted from full regiment to selective worn remains were easily spotted which made them seem more like individuals then a group. It extended down even to their weapons, ranging from spears to sabers, and even more exotic types making them appear to be a motley crew.
From both the armies and their assortment of convoy, two figures had separated themselves and now made their way to Khan’s current position. The woman, Djarkel official and a witch Necromancer, strolled in an elegant fashion with her thigh high boot clicking against the stone yard. Her long blue cloak seemed to dance behind her with the closer she drew while beside her was the Eania official. From his height and symbol on his armor, the creature was a snow elf and honorably retired military yet there was little much Khan could tell about him. Both looked equally displeased to be walking in step with someone from their rival, their pace quick but steady so not to betray their impatience to be done with the chore.
When they finally closed the gap, the woman stepped forward first to introduce herself. Her gloved hand held out for Khan to take it and spoke in a rather mystical voice, one she knew would get on the other’s nerves. “Mariam, Djarkel’s official and Necromancer master.”
Her mention of her blood was keen attempt to rile the Eania official while he removed his helmet, his white features and short buzzed hair gave character to his face lined by winkles. Khan’s intelligence on who was to be the Eania’s official, Jordan Sonnet who was father to one of their teachers, was correct much to his own disappointment to see the city attempt to leverage some advantage they might’ve hoped to gain.
Out the corner of his eyes, the Headmaster noted a slight, depressive sigh come from Lidda at the sight of her kin. They both had their problems and conflicts during her employment at the College; Jordan’s hope was that Lidda might sway the Archmage to alliance with Eania. However his hopes were in vain because each time, Lidda had proven where her trust lies and prefers the neutral nature of the College’s stance.
Khan had put on his mask, not to betray his own thoughts, as he took her hand and shook it. Her smile was faked clearly but he didn’t say a word, her form took a step back to allow the Eania to introduce himself and shake Khan’s hand too. After the normal proceedings had ended, the Headmaster led them into the castle and would soon vanish behind closed doors.
Althalus/Mar Collab
Althalus walked into the room he shared with Mar, rubbing a hand over his face as he contemplated the events of the last six months. To say it had been a wild ride would be severely understating all that had happened. First, he learned through bits and pieces of a conversation through a thick wooden door that he had somehow gotten Mar pregnate within hours of the act. Then, before he could talk to Mar about it, he was immediately ordered to find a new room for a month. Any protests were quelled when the Headmaster himself ordered it. When he tried to sneak back in, he got the nasty surprise of finding out that Mar had Zaad, Khan's pet shadow, attatched to her. A prudent retreat was done. Then, during that one month, he had to play a lovely game of cat and mouse with the demon Tyrael. He lasted the full month too. And then he was forced to 'chat' with the Demonomancy teacher.
Then, when he was finally allowed to return to their room and talk to Mar about it, it turned into an arguement that's still on going. One that was made all the more irritating(even when the demon agreed with him), when Zaad added his own opinions into the fights. Atlhalus thanked all the Gods when he was taken away for good. Still, the arguement didn't stop there. To make matters worse, they had to share a room. Tense was a mild way to describe their situation for the last few months.
He settled against the wall and simply watched Mar. She looked almost ready to explode. Casually, he commented, "Almost time for our child to be born, it seems."
Mar had been stretching as the warm glow of her belly was doused in bluish light, the mushrooms still kept and casted their dim light around. It was rather pretty to her and a nice light she liked. To farther keep the room hot and just ideal for her temperature during the cold months, the College had created several new vents to fliter heat in and the degree kept high thanks to engraved runes on the wall corners. The floor had dry leaves from the fall which she continually shifted over and over through out the nights and day, her nesting instinct in complete control. It was normal for her kind. A relief to her more then a little while she turned her head towards Althalus, her lips curled up into a striaght expression.
"Yes and when that happens, I'll raise her as a Naga." Mar said bluntly, her words likely ready to lead into another of those arguments again. "And don't start in about you wanting to be present, I rather not hear it again. I will give birth to her then raise and when she turns one hundred and thirty, then you can be a part of her life."
Althalus didn't say anything for a moment, likely preparing himself. Then, he took a small breath and corrected her. "We'll. We'll raise her. Together. From the start. I refuse to only be a corpse when I can be a part of my child's life." He had long given up trying to call the child an 'it' as Mar insisted upon calling it female. It was just far easier for the both of them just to agree on the gender that might or might not be the correct one. They had a fifty percent chance of being right, at least.
After he was done speaking, Althalus looked Mar in the eyes, everything from his eyes to his body language speaking of stubborness. He was obviously ready to repeat the cycle that had been going on for six months.
Mar glared at him. Her annoyance was plain on her face at his stubborn nature, which he chosen to show recently. While she enjoyed it, having to fight wasn't something she looked forward to and fought the sudden desire to lash at him. Mainly cause she didn't want end up being push out of the College so she merely shifted her tail into a tighter coil underneath herself. Her arms crossed over the scaly surface while she stared at him for a long moment in silence.
Finally her words snapped out. "No, she doesn't need a father as I, myself, didn't. Why would you care?"
Her body rised, her torso supported by her arms as she repeated the question with more determination. "Why does it matter? You've done enough as it is or you do think I can't raise her properly?"
Althalus didn't rise from his position, or really move at all. He just kept watching Mar's eyes. When he responded, he responded calmly, but firmly. He wasn't going to budge on this matter. "It matters because she's my child. I will not simply fade into the background, knowing that I brought a child into this world and she doesn't even know I exist. I am not a Naga, whose Males only appear to breed and do little else. I will stay with you and help you raise her. Even though I don't doubt you can raise her properly, I will be there. She is my child, I love her and I will not ignore her."
He waited for her snap back, wearily. Not that he let her see that. If he had learned anything over the past six months, it was that he would be better off to pretend he wasn't tired of the same exact route of their conversations each day. Not that it made much of a difference, obviously.
"Why must you fight me?" Mar said, her voice struggled to be even. "I don't understand bipeds and their need to stick around. Do you realize she might not have the same emotional bond to you as you hope? She might even ignore your present despite my influence or yours."
Mar had hoped her points would hit him, though a slight guilt pain seemed to had edged into her heart. It sudden and unexpected, faint as it was, that she blinked a bit before she cased it away. This wasn't the first time she had felt something when it came to these conversations but she didn't want to believe she was growing to care. Becoming a bit human over her stay here. Her attention turned to Althalus while he absorbed her words.
Althalus kept speaking in his calm way, softly even. "I'm not fighting you. I'm simply insisting upon my right to be a part of my child's life. Surely you can understand that. I'm not asking you to leave. I'm just saying that I will not be one of those parents who simply do not care what happens to their children. They leave, forget about them, not caring if they live or die in the years they're apart. I won't. I refuse to. Even if she just views me as that foolish human who claims to be her father that hangs around, I'll be there. To do whatever I must. If I am doomed to have an indifferent child, who likely hates me, so be it. It is my choice, and it is a risk I'm willing to take." And he would not fail her. Not like he had failed his little sister. Like he had failed his mother. Like he had failed his father.
Shaking his head slightly to banish bad memories, Althalus waited. He had thought of what Mar was saying. All the time. Naga weren't emotional creatures. He had never heard Mar talk of her parents, of her friends, of any bonds she would have made and left behind had she been human. There was nothing. What if Mar was right? It would hurt, certainly. And he'd have to retreat into the background. But he wouldn't leave his child's life. He doubted he would be able to.
"What if I don't want to deal with the problems that occur?" Mar asked him .
Her eyes narrowed, though in her mind she knew the real reason wasn't as selfish as it appeared. The 'problems' she was pointing out were not merely packaging which she didn't want, but rather his own hardship he was willing to risk. It was going to difficult to interact with a child who didn't care if his presence was there or not. The Naga tried to ignore the fact she actually cared about his feelings by making an excuse it was just to make her life on the College grounds easier. It was bad enough to see human emotions being flung about but have this man, the very father, sitting there and pouting through out the child's young life was pitiful. Despite what he would say otherwise, humans were the most emotional bipeds of all. Those facts couldn't be changed.
Eyes widen and Mar made a soft grunt when the baby kicked her stomach. Instantly her hand shifted to the spot were a bruise had started to form much to her surprise. This was only a few times the baby had punched her yet the mark had a distinct look she chose to ignore, a foot like shape. She inhaled slowly until the child had settled down again before her head turned up to see where Althalus was.
Althalus raised an eyebrow, and began to open his mouth to ask exactly what kind of problems was she speaking about, when her eyes suddenly widened. Slightly alarmed, Althalus's eyes darted to where her hand was, making out what looked like a foot shape in the pale blue light. He chuckled gently, before asking, "Are you alright? The baby appears to be kicking enthusiastically." He gestured to the bruise. Any questions of what problems she was speaking of where forgotten for now. Probably for the best, all things considered. That arguement would have gone nowhere and would likely have ended with one or both of them leaving the room.
He hoped at least. Arguing was never an enjoyable experience, especially when you're arguing for your right to be apart of a your child's life. He remained seated, six months having told him by now that Mar would not have appreciated him trying to overly help her. It was a trait he admired, when that very same trait didn't end up with her doing something stupid. Like not accepting help obviously needed. And then trying to kill that help...then again, that may have been the infection.
"She's got a strong punch it seems." Mar said in one of her rare, warm tones. She almost seemed to coo as she made mention about the child's strength, her pride seeped through and seemed increased by Althalus's prior chuckling. Her mind hadn't forgotten the argument yet she brushed it to teh side for now. It was odd how the child seemed to have a notion of when they were fighting and how to cease it, this was only the third time such an event had occurred.
"Other then the surprise, I'm alright." She then answered to Althalus. "Merely a well tolerated one and it will heal."
Her body had laid back to prop herself against the hard packed earth which made up the wall. Her eyes seemed to trace the small bump for a moment longer then turned to Althalus, her voice slightly gentle and calmer then during the fight. "Why is that now you chose to show you won't just roll over? Any other time, from what I remember, you never fought this hard. Why now?"
"So it seems." Althalus agreed, smiling slightly at the abrupt change in Mar's demeanor as soon as their child was brought into the equation. It was a preferable side of her to the one he had primarily seen the past six months. Much preferable. Of course, Althalus didn't do anything to give away that he thought that. That would have been simply inviting trouble, and he was happy the way things were now. Calm, more concerned about the child than their own part in it's future. As Mar assured him she was fine, Althalus nodded. "That's good." With silence returning, and Althalus not wanting to bring up any sort of conversation that could return to an arguement, he sought to amuse himself.
Reaching into his pocket, he pulled out the old, bloodstained on one side, coin, and began flipping it through his fingers.
For a small moment, that seemed to be enough. Then, Mar asked him why he was showing spine now. A small smirk crossed Althalus's face, his eyes rising from his coin flipping. "Let's review what I've rolled over on, shall we? Don't sneak up on you. Get a rune so you won't be followed by shadow Golems. Don't get annoyingly drunk. Simple things that don't really matter. Things that I can live without. Now, what have I fought you on? The child, obviously. First, though, there was that cut on your arm, and carrying your breakfast back to the room." He chuckled again, despite the fact that she had nearly killed him. The coin kept flipping between his fingers, dully reflecting the blue light.
"Those involve people I care about. My child. You." The coin stopped flipping between his fingers, disappearing as they curled around it. He hadn't meant to say that much. Mentally, he cursed. Well..no backing out now. "Especially, you." He added, quietly.
"Then you're rather foolish for a human." Mar answered bluntly and in a slightly unempathic tone, her eyes however seemed to betray a difference emotion all together. Guilt.
She sat there, her chest inhaled while her mind drifted on the soothing sound and movement. The earthy smell mingled in and out of her breath, each time filled her with a familar scent. Over the few months she had started to adapt to at least tolerate the humanity surrounding her even after her conflict with Tyrael over revealing her history and the facts she herself had been denying along. It took some time to speak with him but despite their rough times, they still held a deep friendship and one Mar was forever grateful for.
"Why risk getting hurt?" She added to her earlier comment while she sighed at his coin flipping. It was still a habit she found annoyed her more then anything, thankfully she had come to tolerate it.
Althalus noted the guilt, but said nothing, sliding his eyes away from Mar. He didn't want to press and start another arguement. At this point, it wasn't worth it."So I've been told." He replied, a wry smile crossing his face. Despite that, he couldn't help the uncharitable bit of anger that slipped through. That wasn't fair to Mar, and he knew it. Still. Reactions will be reactions. "Which is as amusing as my conscience, given my profession." He chuckled again, gently rubbing his thumb along the coin. He kept it more out of long habit than a reminder any more. But the reminder was always there. Always waiting at the back of his mind.
Some things are not meant to be forgotten.
He stared off at somewhere behind Mar, his gaze slightly vacant. Memories. Promises. Blood. He was yanked out of his reverie by Mar's question, blinking once. "Why risk anything? Because I believe I should be there with all of the meager faith I have left. I'm willing to take the risk because I love my child and believe I should be there. I should be more than just a name, casually mentioned. More than just a face she see's at the College. To be apart of my child's life, even if it's just a fraction of it. I will see her grow up as long as I can. And then I'll die." He shrugged. "If that's how it'll be, that's how it will have to be. I am content with that."
Mar felt her temper rise a bit at Althalus's angry in his voice when he answered her comment about his foolishness. It seemed to be nothing but a joke to him about getting hurt, her face turned into a frown. She didn't like that notion, though she couldn't say, at first, why she felt the sudden wave of emotion. All that Mar knew was that she had to deal with it as she partly heard the rest of Althalus's conversation. Her jawline tightened at once before she spoke. "Yet, you don't think to let it sink in then?"
She hadn't intended to snap but it was too late now. Her eyes seemed to harden and hurt at the same time, against her will to think he didn't care about his own well being. To be so self was not something that set well with her or would be a positive influence around their child, her mind a little bitter at realizing she had already accepted his terms to be in the child's life. Likely that was what caused her next course of action.
"I won't have our child go through the pain from your careless should something happen to you. It is the last thing I want to experience and now, it's likely best I leave. Namely before I decide to knock some sense into you and forget the College rules."
Already she started to push off the wall as she stood upright, finally leaving through the months old doorway and ramp. She hadn't realize Althalus's eyes, shocked and stunned, stared after her but made no move to stop it.
