Adventure! > Just some harmless training /// Day 6 // Morning
Luz seemed to be distant for a moment, she seemed like she didn’t quite understand what had happened to him or how it made him better. Her worry was apparent even if she tried to hide it. “I will not make you follow this path I have chosen. However, do not misunderstand my reasoning for this. I’m doing this for you, I’m doing this for them.” Glancing off toward the stone church and then back to her, “I’m doing what I can to be stronger, to be better, to be more powerful. All of this, all of my choices and motives are all focused on protecting all of us from whatever may stand against us. That is something that I can promise you.”
He didn’t have much more time to do anything before the female put her fists up in a ready position, saying something about testing his new skills. She lunged at him swinging wildly at him. Honestly it briefly caught him off guard. His new skill [Deathly Movements] kept him protected. Somehow he knew or felt her movements and where they were coming from, this in turn allowed him to dodge some of the attacks she threw at him while most seemed to graze him. Only a few hit their mark.
Activating [Stone Skin] the ghoul attempted to hold his ground. Using what he knew about blocking with his unarmed fighting with the combination of [Stone Skin] and [Deathly Movements] to try and see if he couldn’t improve his skills while she could do the same. A brief training session was always a good way to start off a morning hunt.
Sometimes your best isn't enough > A death in the family /// Adventuring day 4 // Morning > Afternoon / Location - Cave
All the pixie could do was watch the two slimes continue their assault while he went for more mana. The crystals were abundant now and it was something he would attempt to make the most of while he could. Consuming two of the four immediately to refill his reserves he looked back to the fight at hand only to see Jason speed off. Ardur did flinch for a moment at the sudden static but then began to fly back towards the duo. “Was the bastard trying to run again?” he thought to himself, “No, he’s trying to cast another spell.”
Or at least he thought, the runes and sigils forming over the slime was certainly something to admire and at the very least try and acquire or figure out while they were there. However, unlike the first time he saw them. These runes seemed fuzzy and flickered, the sigil didn’t seem to be working as well as he had intended and within a moment they fizzled out just as the slime ruptured and tore itself apart with a sharp stone.
The green insides and acids of the former Reborn where strewn across the rock face and soaked into the dirt. Ardur paused and watched, expecting some monster to be summoned in his place. Yet nothing happened. Danny seemed interested in getting to the corpse or mound of goo but the lizards still posed a threat. That and Ardur did want one of them for his own experiments.
Seeing the opportunity to strike as one of the lizards was distracted by firing a glob at Asura. The buff pixie flew down towards the Lizard, but just before he reached it and he was sure he wouldn’t miss the creature’s spine. Ardur put his feet out in front of him together and with his heels first landed on the lizard. He just hoped he did as much damage as he would have liked too.
Feeling like the monster was dead or at the very least demobilized. Ardur continued towards Asura and Danny who seemed to be fighting over something the pulled out of Jason’s body. The pixie landed lightly next to the other two looking to what was left of the green slime and sighed. Bringing his hands together his right hand in a fist with his other clasping over his fist he bowed his head and spoke a simple and quiet prayer.
“O merciful Sky Father, bringer of light in our darkest days, bringer of warmth in our coldest nights. I pray that you may guide this one on his journey. To watch over him and grant him the peace he deserves, the peace he was unable to find in life. He was a worthy adversary and a good fighter, he fought for what he believed in even to his dying breath. Watch over him Lord of fire and might, this one deserved that much.” A brief pause while the pixie found the words for what he had to say next.
“Ancient vows, to order kneel A warden's call to blood and steel Legion lines to shield the frail Behind the plate and mail
Cast from our place Now further from grace We fall.”
Some lyrics from one of the many songs he still remembered. He didn’t sing them this time; this time they were there to finish his prayer. Turning to the other two Ardur looked them over. “Danny, Jason is gone. I’m not sure if your safe here by yourself now. Just give the crystal to Asura and maybe come along with us? Safety in numbers.” Ardur didn’t want Jason to die, hell he didn’t want anyone to die. Not again anyways. He hoped that maybe, just maybe in this world things would be different, maybe death here wasn’t the end. As far as he could tell so far, it wasn’t different. he hardly noticed through his prayer that the wisp was trying to cast a spell.

At least he tried. It was all he could really think about as both slimes basically ignored him and used his temporary ceasefire as a way to take a small break and recalculate their foes. He didn’t truly believe he would get them to stop but that wasn’t the point. He wanted them to see him try. Not just the slimes but the others nearby as well. So that they knew even through his last outburst that he was at least willing to try and stop the fighting. As he saw it, he was taking all sides and none at all.
The next thing he knew when he looked back to Asura was a sudden shadow above him. Ducking down as someone yelled “MASH!” Ardur barley saw the large slime barrel over him and into Jason. Right after a surge of red tendrils flowed past him and towards Jason.
Obviously Asura would not slow down so instead the buff pixie simply whispered, “Go for the core, end the threat, I’ll keep you alive.” After that, the pixie dove out of the way of the slimes battle royale and tumbled to the side. With only momentary dizziness he stood back up and observed his surroundings.
The large rat was still hanging out at the rim of the battle and the wisp seemed to take it upon himself to extend the hostilities by giving Jason more mana crystals. Two Lizards where also hanging out on the edge of the small defilade definitely here by Jason’s call and were listening to him. But otherwise the area looked clear.
Ardur was very curious as to the position of the other monsters that ran off earlier. If it was a trap and the wisp was in on it he needed to get to higher ground to alert Asura. This would also allow him to find a few more mana crystals as well. With that thought in his head the pixie took flight straight towards the ceiling and the mana crystals that waited for him there. Paying just enough attention to the wisp as to not be surprise attacked but otherwise focused on getting mana.

Out of the frying pan > Into the fire /// Adventuring day 4 // Morning / Location - Cave
It didn’t take him long to find the two slimes. It would seem that Jason chose the old hatching grounds for this fight. I guess he thought he might have the upper hand at that point. Even the buff pixie knew it was dangerous to let your opponent choose the battle ground. The large dire rat from earlier approached him as he reached the edge of the fight.
Ardur hadn’t seen Danny approach until Asteria pointed him out. The large rat spoke for a moment about resolving things peacefully between the two slimes who seemed to be witling each other down to nothing. “Yeah I did what I could but it seems like it won’t matter much if these two just tear each other apart. I’m up for trying the peaceful way if you back me up.” The dire rat seemed set on going off first to try to distract maybe. Ardur had other plans for what he was to do in this fight.
The buff pixie looked to mother slime for a moment. Reading the body language of a ball of slime was difficult, but he knew what she was thinking. More than likely remembering what happened actually. Ardur reached out and touched her membrane to break her concentration for a moment. “Wait here.” It was simple and all he could think to say. Then with a smile, the pixie took off into the air toward the two slimes.
Once he was above them only a few feet away and definitely within striking distance of both slimes. Ardur did something that he’s only done a few times before. Put himself in harm’s way. “I am a spirit of fire; my flames cannot hurt me” he wasn’t entirely sure if this would have the effect he wanted, but he knew at the very least it was going to drain the rest of his mana. With that, he Yelled, “Immolation!” then the pixie dropped in between the two slimes.
He purposefully did this to while one of Asura’s strikes were headed toward Jason. Ardur just hopped the combination of the fireball I spell and shield I would cover his body. Mostly for intimidation but if it worked out otherwise he would still continue with what he was doing. “Listen human’s your acting like fucking children. I don’t care who started it or who hit who first, you will both lose in this war of attrition.” His gaze shifted between the two while he tried to keep himself between the slimes. “Asura, Mother slime will never be safe if you keep dragging her into conflicts like this, and what does it matter when this green fuck is stuck in the cave he is bonded too. We can leave, we can explore, we can learn so much more out there.”
These flames were beginning to get a little hot, but he pushed through his discomfort. “Jason what ever happened to being one of the demon king’s generals that you kept spouting off about huh? I bet you won’t be able to do that when this place has corrupted you to the point of you becoming one of these mindless monsters you keep so close to you. You got so caught up in the moment you went for the first piece of bait you found that put you in control of anything. You got an old beat up fucking Honda accord, when if you would just have been a little more patient and had a bit of self-control you could have gotten a Ferrari.”
He could feel that pit growing in his stomach again, the one that feels like low blood sugar. He was running out of mana again. “I’m done with both of you acting like you were never human, like you were never alive in the first place. You know who I was? My name was Travis Smith I was a paramedic. I left behind the love of my life to save someone I didn't know.” Pointing to the three dark spots on his chest. “I will do whatever it fucking takes to see her again, even if it means getting in between two fucking children!” Ardur was obviously being emotional at this point, similar to what he sounded like while he was raging earlier. “So why the hell are either of you even here? What is driving you to be better? I can guarantee you it’s not this” with that his mana finally emptied and the flames disappeared. “Now my mana is gone and I can’t heal either of you. So if you two still want to tear each other’s throats out, fine. But I’m done. Have a good fucking life because second chances don’t come easy.”

Trying to save a life > out of the frying pan /// Adventuring day 4 // Morning / Location - Cave
He was relieved that the big slime didn’t strike at him as he approached. The spell seemed to work just fine, in fact a little better than he hoped. However, it would seem adding chants to these spells did increase their mana. He just hoped it would work for all his spells.
After the spell had completed, Mother Slime looked as good as new. If not a little confused.
“Wha Happun?” the large slime asked.
Ardur hesitated for a moment, he didn’t think the slime could talk. Perhaps Asura had spent more time then he thought with her. “The small green slime used magic to hurt you, and I used my magic to heal you. I think the green one did it to get to Asura.” The buff pixie looked back towards the area the two ran off into. He didn’t want the shimmer of the shield spell to be wasted.
Holding his last mana crystal in his hand, Ardur crushed it and breathed in the dust as he absorbed the mana from it. “Come on we need to find Asura and get him out of here. I don’t think we can win against all of the creatures here, at least not right now.” Again he paused and looked her over for a moment. “If you’re strong again let’s go and help him, but stay away from that green slime so he doesn’t hurt you. Take out its minions first. Just remember to run away when we do.”
Warning: Mana Low You used a mana crystal. Mana Restored to 90%. You have no mana crystals remaining.
He smiled at her and started to head off towards where the other slimes rolled off to. Honestly, Ardur hadn’t realized until now home much he missed running. It did seem like his body was more attune to flying and running now felt a little awkward. It was something he would work on later right now Asura might be in trouble. So as Ardur reached what he assumed was the fastest he could run he took off into the air staying low, flying fast, and using Muffle I to hide his approach. He didn’t really care if the big slime followed, but was curious. Curious to see if Steve showed up again or followed his command to go back to the entrance.

Under attack > Trying to save a life /// Adventuring day 4 // Morning / Location - Cave
Ardur watched as his fire ball soared through the air striking his slowed target. The pixie was relived at this and would remember that his friend’s webs where flammable. He thought the wisp would put up more of a fight, but he wasn’t about to go out of his way to find another fight. Looking back down toward the slimes the buff pixie furrowed his brow. The one he remembered being called Jason had used some sort of chant that brought up some weird symbols.
The spell he used seemed to be over in an instant but Ardur still watched for as long as he could be trying to figure out what just happened. He could hear him yelling about mind something? Was that a combination attack? Could it be something similar to how he was using shield and fireball? More than a few good questions he would try to remember later.
AS for the here and now, the big slime was badly injured and the others looked like they were beginning to retreat. A ping of sympathy filled the back of his mind as he watched Asura try to comfort the larger slime. All he could think of was how he would react if something like that happened to Steve. “Steve follow me if you can, we are going to help that big blue slime. If you can’t follow go back to the mouth of the cave and wait for me.” With that command the Buff pixie used his strength, lesser flight III, and angle to dive towards mama slime.
He didn’t even try to slow down on his landing. Tumbling and rolling past the shivering blue mass Ardur was quick to get back on his feet and towards the large slime. Stopping at its side he could hear it moaning and groaning in pain. Hesitantly Ardur reached forward at the leaking mass of blue. “Easy now I’m a friend, I’m here to help you.” He was trying to be soothing and careful but ultimately even if she did lash out at him he would continue to try to get to her.
“Wounds mend, Scars fade. Pain vanishes and nerves calm.” The pixie reached forward to press his hands onto the quivering slime. Trying his best to envision her skin and membrane healing itself. “Merciful Sky father, spare this child of the sun from her suffering. Stabilize her wounds and help her grow, so she may be as mighty in your eyes as she is in mine… Minor Healing III.” He wasn’t yelling like he was before, this time it was almost a whisper.
With this, the buff pixie was also trying something new. Casting Shield I on the mother slime but not so she was protected. Instead Ardur would attempt to invert the shield as too keep as much of the slimes fluids inside it. Somewhat like a bandage.

Need to refuel > Under attack /// Adventuring day 4 // Morning / Location - Cave
2 mana crystals used Mana Restored to full 2 mana crystals remaining
Ardur couldn’t help but notice his arachnid friend crawling her way in toward him and the action. She was probably curious as to what all the commotion was. That and she more than likely saw him fly in, being consumed in a self-made fire ball wasn’t hard to miss. He was also relived to find out that it only took him two mana crystals to get back to full MP useful knowledge for sure. That and the new skill should help, the pixie was curious to know it worked with his flight. Now he just needed to figure out what his next move was.
He did give the rat his word that he wouldn’t go after those things for now unless provoked. Perhaps going back down and making sure the slime friend’s get out safe then go check on the gob-. His thought process was cut short due to a searing pain in his left thigh by a mana orb. The pixie let his guard down for an instant and he got hit. “Son of a bitch that hurts!” finding cover and casting Minor Healing II on himself while Steve continued to make her way toward him.
Taking a look at his opponent from cover he could see a rather large wisp with a sickly green glow making its way towards him and Steve. Looking back to his friend Ardur called out to her, “Steve! Start spinning your webs for a trap. I’m going to lure this thing in toward it so we can deal with it.” He knew that even with his strength and his flying ability he would be hard matched to out run this thing while carrying Steve.
Giving his friend a moment to prepare her webs, Ardur peaked around the corner with his hand held up toward the wisp. “My soul is fire; my heart is of the sun. Mighty sky father guide my shot, So they may rest i your everlasting light. Fireball.” Ardur spoke these words while still trying to remain mostly in cover. His leg was still stinging but he could feel the pain numbing. All he could do now was hope that his shot hit or at the very least kept drawing the thing in.
Ardur was ready to move. Perched in an almost crouched position to leap and fly towards the webs when the wisp got too close for comfort. Just in case he needed it the buff pixie used one of the two mana crystals he still had with him.

I'm ok > Need to refuel /// Adventuring day 4 // Morning / Location - Cave
The pixie fluttered into the air quickly after he was released by the big female rat. She then spoke to him. Questioning him on why he acted like he did toward the undead who were still attacking his slimy friend. He watched them, the undead for a little while before answering her.
“Before I died I was a paramedic. I spent a great deal of my time and effort saving people or making their last moments easier. I can not morally justify not being opposed to these things, in nature everything should die and stay dead. That and I know Sara wouldn't approve...” Ardur trailed off for a moment. “I won't attack them anymore unless provoked to do so but I won't work with you for as long as they are here.” that was really all he could say without wanting to further press the issue.
Looking back toward the friendly slime and the undead who were still locked in combat. “Yo! We should get out of here and check in with the others. I have a bad feeling that more of these things are coming. So let's regroup with the others and see what's happening outside." watching the slime fight and then take damage the pixie felt slightly useless. His mana was drained and other than using his strength and raw melee ability he didn't have much else to work with.
Looking to the undead then back to the slime once more he sighed and took off toward the roof of the cave. Using Lesser Flight III, he would make sure to keep himself close enough to use the stalactites and other cave outcroppings for cover if he needed it while moving as quickly as he could. Right now he needed to find mana crystals, so he could be useful again.
Ardur was aware that they regrew after some time and with the goblins away and Asura more than likely taking up their attention. The buff pixie felt that this was the best time to search for a few. He wasn't going to be greedy about this, 3 should bring him back to full and 4 would be enough to have one left over for someone else or for later.
Rage. > I'm ok /// Adventuring day 4 // Morning / Location - Cave
Like watching something from the back seat of a car all ardor could do was watch as he rocketed toward the skeleton. He wasn’t afraid, he wasn’t angry either. Ardur simply lost control, or at least that’s what it felt like. He had only felt rage like this a few times before and normally they were over something trivial or just frustrating. This was different hell everything was different.
Careening through the air he watched in slow motion as he flew past the weapon of the skeleton. Arm stretched out and just as his shield spell fluttered and was nearly at its end. His flaming fist struck the skeletons' skull. The force of which forced his arc toward the ground making him shatter more and more bones until the skeleton was nearly shorn in half. The burning splinters of bone and sinew rained down around him. With his mana nearly depleted the still raging pixie then attempted to rush at the other two enemies’.
However, within a few steps he felt himself become constricted around his legs and waist. Something or someone had taken him by surprise and wrapped themselves around him. He could hear a whisper; no someone was practically yelling at him, but he couldn’t quite hear them. Then suddenly he felt the last of his mana disappear and feeling as if he was just punched in the stomach by it. Taking a moment to breath he was thrust back into the world.
After catching his breath, he began to whisper to himself, almost like he was trying to comfort a scared or frightened lover. “Sorry Sara, I let my anger get the best of me again.” With his eyes and taking deep breaths Ardur slowly grasped the situation that was going on around him and that he started. First things first get out of this rat’s grasp then try to figure out what’s going on. Lastly, he knew he would want to scour the cave for a moment to look for a few mana crystals. They had plenty of time to regrow by now.
“Oi!” he spoke up towards the large rat who talked to him, “can you let me go? I'm okay now.” Ardur spoke towards his captor however if she didn’t let him go he would resort to forcing himself free. With the benefit of physical conditioning I and Stronger I he would punch, kick, or bite her so that he may be released. The plan after that would be to fly up high enough, so he would be out of reach of the others, and he could talk to them. He was out of mana sure, but not out of stamina.
Ardur watched with wonder and excitement as his fire ball traveled through the air and exploded on a far off rock. “So it does drop” he thought out loud, unaware of the goblins who were watching nearby. That fire ball also took a good chunk of his manna, not quite a quarter but almost. His chant seemed to strengthen the spell as well, he was unsure if invoking some kind of god made it stronger because of the god or because of the users view or interpretation of said god. One thing he did discover to be mostly true was the spell seemed to rely a lot on the wielder and what he tried to do with it. Only when he heard a strange sound did the buff pixie get drawn out of his thoughts and back to reality.
He felt strange, his instincts were trying to tell him to take flight and run. He could feel his heart racing because of this invisible enemy he could only just now begin to hear. Squinting into the darkness of the cave he began to make out three goblin shaped figures. These figures seemed to move in a way he wasn’t used too. Ways that seemed unnatural. Then in a flicker of light he was able to make it out, bones and scraps of what used to be a living thing. There was three of them, and they were armed with some kind of weapons.
Ardur was frozen, he couldn’t move. Undead where here in this world, in front of him and running toward him in a very unfriendly manner. These things weren’t here before someone had to have brought them into this world. What changed? The death of Rattleskull? The exodus of the other reborn and goblins from this cave? What happened that could shift the balance and bring these abominations into this world? It couldn’t be him, could it? That arrogant slime? But that’s what changed, that slime from the fight with Rattle gripped onto that crystal and spouted some nonsense about being its master.
How could he do that? How could he bring the dead back to life? Ardur spent both of his lives trying to prevent death but welcomed it when it came for him, because it was natural. Who does he think he is, trying to play god.
To the others that could see him Ardur remained quiet still almost like he was frozen with fear just from the mere sight of the skeletons. He began to shake, his arms at his side as he clenched his fists. An explosion echoed in the forest behind him and with that Ardur began to experience something he hadn’t experienced since he woke up in this world. Rage, pure unbridled rage.
He couldn’t control himself. “Two lives of trying to keep people alive, a lifetime spent helping others and you falter to something like this… this evil and unnatural thing?” he was practically yelling at the undead but who was he addressing? Himself or the one that brought these things to life? “Come, let me show you the Sun's mercy, Let me cleanse you of your sins so you may rest eternally” without skipping a beat Ardur cast Shield I on himself and focused it into his hands. “Fire cleanses and inferno purifies.” He began to chant again but this time like the shield spell, he tried to focus on keeping the fireballs just on the outside of the shield. It looked like he was attempting to cast with both of his hands. Letting the fireballs feed and burn at the shield spell.
“My soul is fire, my heart is of the sun, Burn and envelope the evil within these lost souls!” With that he leaped forward and flew towards the closest skeleton as fast as he could intent on punching the creature with his fist's of fire. Ardur wasn’t in a the right state of mind, his compulsion to destroy these skeletons wasn’t something he could stop himself from doing at least not yet. Trapped in this mindset, the buff pixie would uncontrollably use his mana to the point where he was willing to sacrifice his own life force. Who among those nearby could shake him from this anger of his? The war cry from the slime didn’t seem to faze him, if it did its not showing. Who would be willing to stand against this burning pixie with fire in his heart and rage in his eyes?
