Current I think watching fight scenes can help in general terms with writing combat, since it can give you an idea of flow and choreography.

At least if you're writing something you know, with knights.

I mean, depends on what you're writing, and the tone and theme of what you're writing. Trained armored knights were legitimately monstrous on the battlefield, so looking up how they fought helps.

As much as there's a lot of reasons twitter sucks, I genuinely don't want to see it die for the sake of all the artists who now rely on it. Hoping the shithead stops trying to directly administrate.

@The World: I'd look at the more grounded Gundam series for an idea of how things are going to work. G Gundam is deeefinitely not the tone we're going for here.

No shining fingers here, but you can have funnels and do some pretty impressive and speedy stuff with your mecha.
@The World: There is, the OOC was posted above.
@Psyker Landshark: The latter.

@Psyker Landshark: Within the last three years of the war.
The way into the shopping center was largely clear, now, and though people were still filtering out due to the evacuation it appeared as though the building was mostly emptied by this point.

It was perhaps a good thing that the Devil-class was not immediately visible, given how close it would have had to be to the evacuees if it was. At the same time, in such a large building, that also meant that it could be anywhere.

"Attempting to pinpoint the Demon's exact location," came Shiro's soft voice through communications, "There is significant signal interference. There may be other demons present, or the demon may be attempting to make itself more difficult to detect. I will pin it down."

The silence of the shopping center was surreal. Normally such a place would be bustling with activity, but in the moment they were the only ones there. Shops normally filled with people stood empty.

It could have been quite an eerie feeling, knowing that the demon could be anywhere in the vast building, but perhaps it was something of a relief to know the evacuation seemed to be at least mostly successful.

With that being said, there was no way of knowing currently if everyone was already out, and-

Blood.

There was blood, sprayed across the tile flooring, ahead. It was unmistakable.

There was no sign of a body, but the amount of blood made it quite obvious that there had been one there, at some point.

And then there was a sound from within the shop.

It was a sporting goods store, selling a variety of equipment for casual and more serious play. There was no clear sign of anyone inside, but something had moved in there. It sounded as if something had fallen from one of the shelves.

The year is 2273, and humanity has colonized the stars. It began on Earth's Moon, the first permanent Lunar residence gradually expanding into a full-scale city as terraforming technology grew in its potency. From there, humanity spread across the solar system, creating habital colonies from barren wastes and moving further beyond. As technology improved, humanity's reach grew longer.

The Ordered Earth Governments, the overarching governing body of humankind, sought to create a vast and interconnected network between Earth and all its colonies. A utopian vision, some called it, where the colonies would provide one another and Earth with necessities and other goods far beyond what a single planet could produce. This transformed the Ordered Earth Governments into the United Earth Colonies, or UEC.

Naturally, corporate interests lay in the stars as well. Seeking sponsorship by the UEC, corporations like Maxim and Theia set their sights on the creation of colonies for the purposes of producing more of their products and thus further revenue. It was in this era that the first Mobile Armors were created.

They began as fully sealed mechanized suits, several times larger than a human, that could entirely insulate and protect the pilot from outside conditions. A humanoid machine equipped with everything it would need for the exploration of even the most hostile environments.

It quickly became apparent that mere exploration was not the sole purpose of Mobile Armors.

It began on the edges of known space. Unrest, riots, and even terror attacks, as the UEC's size caused its grip to loosen, and corruption to become more frequent, in the outer colonies. Combined with corporate abuse, it created an atmosphere ripe for violence.

In 2205, the outer colonies declared their independence. The war of rebellion was fought with weaponized MAs, UEC and corporate infrastructure co-opted for the effort.

In 2216, they had severed themselves from the UEC. The war had become too costly, worth far too little, for its continuation, and the UEC eventually acquiesced to the Outer Colonies' desire for independence.

However, the fire had already been lit. The advancement of MA technologies for the purpose of warfare had begun.

And mere independence was not the only goal for some of the Outer Colonies.

The largest and most industrious of them was known as Lemnos, and it was the quickest to form a governing body. The first of the Lemnosian Ministers, Anthen Nilsk, desired a future where all the Outer Colonies were united just as the UEC was.

The Lemnosian conquest of the Outer Colonies was swift and merciless. Only a few years prior had they freed themselves from UEC control, and now they were transformed into something new.

The Lemnosian Territorial Space, or LTS. The reasoning by High Minister Nilsk was simple. For his vision, it required the colonies to be united. It required them all to be working for the same purpose.

That purpose was realized in 2251, when the LTS declared war on the UEC. Nilsk viewed the people of Earth and its colonies as corrupt and deserving of retribution, and it was this belief that he founded his war upon.

It was a war fought across space, across colonies, in new MA models. At first the LTS attacks were devastating and they swiftly gained ground, but the UEC was able to mount a defense that stalled the LTS advance.

It was a vicious war that burned the galaxy. Many colonies were destroyed by the combat, and on both sides corporate interests were pushed to intensify the war for the sake of profit.

Towards the War's apex, a new type of MA was created by UEC scientists. Utilizing High-efficiency generators known as Matsuzawa Drives, they were capable of incredible firepower, agility, and defenses.

They were the first Augmented Armors.

Soon, due to LTS military scientists' efforts, Augmented Armors fought on both sides of the war, and it seemed as if it would only intensify.

It was with Anthen Nilsk's sudden death that the LIS War effort faltered. After the battle of Bifrost, where both sides took heavy looses, it seemed as if the LTS lost its stomach for its war of conquest.

A shaky peace agreement followed.

The Neutral Zone was at its foundation, a stretch of space and all the planets within it that would divide UEC and LTS territories. The Universal War came to an end.

That was twelve years ago.

The Neutral Zone is anything but.

Corporate interests searching for lost technology from the war. Efforts by the UEC and the LTS to spy upon one another. Isolated engagements driven by revenge or duty or some combination of both.

And the lives of the people still living on the Neutral Zone Planets caught up in them.

It's the kind of place that's a mercenary's dream. All sorts of jobs, from corporate and government interests to other independent groups. It's only natural that the kind of person that would fight another's battles for the sake of earning money would flock to the neutral zone.

Bifrost is practically in the middle of Neutral Zone space. It still bears the scars of the battle fought upon it, and its people have hardly forgotten.

EINHERJAR is based here. A mercenary conglomerate distinctly independent from direct control by any corporation or government, operating throughout the neutral zone. While it was initially founded for the sake of helping to support Bifrost's people, and many Bifrost natives compose its mercenaries, all sorts have joined EINHERJAR for the sake of their careers.

Perhaps they want to help Bifrost.

Perhaps they're fighting for someone else.

Perhaps they don't know what to do with themselves in the aftermath of the war.

Perhaps they just want an excuse to fight.

EINHERJAR's mercenaries, and their customized Augmented Armors, operate throughout the neutral zone.

And you're one of them.

So, mercenary hound, why do you fight?

UEC: The UEC is the governmental body of Earth and all its colonies. A monolithic organization, it has a reputation for being rather slow to operate, but quick in retaliation. To some, the UEC is a shining example of human achievement. To others, it has become corrupt and bogged down in corporate interests. Perhaps, it's somewhere in the middle. Regardless, UEC interests still remain in the neutral zone, and covert operations are sometimes conducted by UEC Mobile Armor and Augmented Armor squads, or by UEC-affiliated mercenaries. It's even rumored that the UEC's elite Augmented Armor squad, the Falcons, have conducted missions in the Neutral Zone.

LTS: The governing body of the former outer colonies, currently headed by Anthen Nilsk's eldest son, Theon Nilsk. The LTS was founded on ideals firmly in opposition of the UEC, viewing it as corrupt and the people of the UEC all complicit in this corruption. While the ruler of the LTS is known as the High Minister, his authority is comparable to that of an Emperor. Highly militarized and organized, it's believed by some that the LTS is simply biding its time to reignite the Universal War with the UEC. Just like its enemy, the LTS has also conducted covert operations within the neutral zone. The Lemnosian Knights, their elite Augmented Armor Squad, are still widely feared after the devastating raid on Argyre.

Bifrost: Once a colony believed to be the UEC's bridge to the stars beyond, now a lost planet at the heart of the Neutral Zone. Scarred by the final battle of the Universal War, the planet has struggled to recover, with many of its cities devastated. Still, it manages to persist, due in part to the efforts of EINHERJAR.

Mobile Armor: The original mechanized armored suits. The average Mobile Armor stands around twelve to fifteen meters tall, and may be equipped with kinetic, laser, or explosive weaponry. Most Mobile Armors are mass-produced models and compose the bulk of any government or corporate mechanized forces. The majority of Mobile Armor models are humanoid, but the Arthropod Line of Mobile Armors created by Anzell Industries possess larger, more insectoid designs.

Augmented Armor: Top-of-the-line mechanized armored suits. Created in the latter half of the Universal War, Augmented Armors' use of the Matsuzawa Drive propelled them to the front lines, where skilled pilots utilized them to alter the course of battle. Far superior to Mobile Armors and highly customizable, these days they have found their ways into corporate and mercenary forces in addition to Government militaries. The average Augmented Armor stands at roughly 18 to 20 meters tall. They may be equipped with kinetic, laser, explosive, melee, and other forms of weaponry. EINHERJAR pilots utilize custom Augmented Armor.

Espers: An exceedingly rare capability among human beings to utilize mental abilities. This manifests as a capacity to read the thoughts of others, and theoretically even move objects without touching them. To most, they are a mere rumor. But perhaps...

Damn it...!

She'd made her move to get the kid away from her in the first place, and now...

She didn't care about humans.

Elizstrazia wasn't the type to feel those kind of sympathies. She was a scale demon, after all. Down to her very core, it was something antithetical to her nature.

At least, that was how she felt.

And yet seeing the boy's head slam into the wall filled her with rage. She'd already been angry. Angry at the whole situation. Angry at being forced to pretend to be some ordinary maid. Angry at having to hide her nature.

And now, the sight of the boy she'd tried to snatch from the possessed woman being slammed head-first into the wall made that fire burn even more intensely.

The salamander-like demon that had concealed itself in the form of a maid was trying to bite her.

Fine.

It was time to teach it one more lesson before it died.

Its jaws were poised to snap shut, so she caught them, gripping them tightly. Its body was soft, slick, but she used her clawed fingertips to dig into its flesh and hold its jaws open in her hands.

And then she pulled, her arms tensing as she wrenched the demon's jaws in opposite directions from one another as hard and fast as she could.

Transluscent skin stretched and tore, followed by muscle. From its head, to its neck, to its torso, and further down.

Gore splattered across the hallway floor as Elizstrazia ripped the demon in half, blood spraying across her maid outfit as well.

"I'll kill you, you bitch...!"

The possessed woman was gone, certainly, but that didn't stop Elizstrazia from screaming her rage-filled declaration down the hall all the same.
