"C'mon Sunny! We can beat these guys! It's not much further." The girl tapped the heel of her boots against Sunny's sides and the Chocobo let out a determined chirp. She dug her feet deep into the ground and ran, kicking up dirt and grass behind her.

Everyone was so close, but Riley could have sworn Sunny was ahead by a beak.

Lesley began screaming something about greens and his Chocobo picked up the pace.

"Hey no bribing!" The girl called out with a laugh. It was beautiful morning and the wind on her face and the laughter of everyone around made it so much better. She leaned forward urging Sunny on when a tiger and wolf suddenly passed them. Riley was caught by surprise and for a moment though they were being attacked by wild animals, she tugged on the reins and Sunny who was caught of guard made a quick turn. The girl realized it was only their guides and tried to take control of the Chocobo once more but Sunny was sprinting fast and soon they found themselves running into a patch of flowers.

The Chocobo's foot got caught in a vine and it tripped, sending Riley flying. The girl rolled through the flower bush and eventually crashed into a tree. She let out a yelp as a dull ache spread across her body. The girl found herself stunned by the sudden fall.

Sunny let out a concerned kweh and soon the Chocobo was pushing her up into a sitting position.

"Haha, I'm alright Sunny!" She hugged the animal by its neck and it yanked her up.

She was just in time to see the race end. Lesley continued egging his mount on with the promise of greens and the Chocobo fired up by the encouragement ran past both Ace and Inadi, all the way to the finish line. "Way to go Les!" The girl cheered, cupping both hands around her mouth so Lesley could hear her.

Avian and Victoria were all the way at the finish line, talking with Zephy. Eh? When did she get there?

"C'mon Sunny!" She hopped onto the Chobo and it trotted all the way to the finish line. She was last, but it didn't matter. Everything had been really fun. She gave Lesley a thumbs up then turned to both Ace and Inadi with a grin. "Looks like none of us win. Pfft, and to think Lesley started last." Riley ruffled the feathers on Sunny's back then turned to look at their guides. "So A and V, this mountain, how far away is it?"

"You can do it Fluff. It's soo close!" Ace coaxed, leanig forward as they got closer and closer to the finish line. The two were stuck in third for awhile, with Riley speeding ahead and Inadi neck and neck. "C'mon Dipper! You don't want to see the rear ends of these birdies do you?" Being as motivated as Ace made the Chocobo realize that being in this was the last place he wanted to be. He doesn't need the others taunting and teasing him about the loss. So with haste,  Dipper sped forward, surprising Ace. She managed to hold tight to the reins in order not to fall off. She had enough falls and tosses to the ground to know that the ground hurt. She grinned when she saw the Tiger and Wolf racing past. It was no doubt that the two would beat the birds, but that didn't matter. What mattered was them getting to the front of the line. The new found determination had them leading the way too. "Alright Fluff! You can do it!" She cheered and received a kwehing response.

Even with all concentration dhe could muster, Ace was still bound to get distracted by something. At that moment, that something turned out to be seeing Riley make a swift turn off course. "Riley,  you're gong the wrong way!" She laughed and her and her partner continued with the race. She and Dipper caught Riley's fall and winced a little. She was about to yelp out, but a screaming pink blur raced past her. "Whoa! No way!" She laughed and picked up the pace. It seemed Lesley found a way to get a move on and it was doing the duo justice too. It was the last stretch and Ace and Dipper were only so far behind first place. But it seemed as though the two weren't going to make it.

Lesley took the spot and Ace was right behind her- him- Ace finished in second place. Though, even as it ended, Spider was still running... right into the guides. "Stop!" She pulled the reins and laughed as they stopped a sudden collision into the wolf. "We were so close! But, that was awesome anyway! Good job Fluff." She jumped off, letting Dipper catch a break. "You did good." The bird chirped and nudged his head against her. Ace laughed and patted the bird lightly, then looked at the other two with a grin. "Good game! Next time, me and Fluff will be in first place no doubt!" She nodded at Riley's comment and then leaned against Dipper as the two guides are given a question.

"We should hurry and get there! I can't wait to see some real dragons."

Out of the twelve people that had gathered at the stables soon enough only eight were left. Riley, Inadi, Ace and Lesley had ran ahead of the group, having a joyous type racing with their chocobos. Hakuren, who had refused their offer to join their game, did not feel a drop of regret. It was ridiculously funny to simply watch them.
Patting the side of his mount's neck, just like one would do to a horse for a job well done in their world, the young man quickly got the bird to move about just in the direction he wanted. Naturally, the up and down motion took a few moments to adjust to, yet it was not a hassle. The animal was not responsible for this. It was the rider who had requested of it to move, thus he had to bear with the manner, in which movement was created.

Harper replied positively to the mage's comment regarding the ease of riding and he was apparently becoming a professional. A professional comedian, at least. It was indeed hilarious to observe as the youngster made his chocobo go in speedy circles, no doubt making the critter dizzy. If they had fallen because of that, it would have been the cherry on top and would have sent Riddle on the side bench. Both boys let out a laugh at this silly situation before turning their attention to Jasper, who was reluctant to get on the saddle. To this the black-blue-haired lad could only smile and send a comment her way:
"Saddle up, Bear. It's not like it will eat you. Just don't let it look at you sideways."

Harper said "They're nice!" He yelled before returning his focus on Hakuren, Avian, and Vicky. He gave his mount a pat and noticed a name on its collar. "Parsley," Harper laughed before looking at Haku's mount with a smile. "What's yours' name?"

Pulling around the collar, which was strapped to the avian's neck, his hand held to a stop the moment the metal plate was in front of his eyes.
"Alcyona" he read aloud and added delightfully "Heeeh, related to the kingfisher myth, aren't we? What a sweet girl."

Harper said He waited for Hakuren to answer then turned to both Avian and Vicky. "Did the dragons really use to be friendly?"

Unfortunately, the poor human did not receive an answer. Whilst their newest male guide took off after the runaway parade, the lovely flame-haired woman stayed, in order to persuade those, who had yet to get on their mounts. Sadly, persuade was very lightly speaking. It did not take long for her to get through them and Leon, Leila and Jasper soon found themselves clinging onto the reins as if their lives depended on it, which was most likely not too far from the truth.

The group was trotting in a steady pace, not too fast, not too slow, which was favorable for the chocobos, as over-exhaustion was not in their best interest. Much like Harper, Hakuren himself had a few inquires for the lovely fem-fatal, yet none of new recruits was given any mind. Instead, as a loving wife should or perhaps shouldn't, Vicky preferred to speak with her husband, as they had caught up to him, and proposed a race. It seemed like a joke at first, yet after whispering something in the man's ear and making her tiger run forward at lightning speed, all the while with a devious expression on her face, it was obvious she was not to be taken too lightly.

"And to think we're supposed to be the irresponsible ones." Hakuren sighed as he and Harper watched two grown people race like little children across the plains.
The ones left behind the two guys were the aforementioned slowpokes. A twitchy bear with a phobia of bugs, a silent puppy dog and a feathery queen-wana-be boy. Indeed, the both of them were the only adults there, mentally speaking, the first having a judgement that was both correct and displeasing and the second being a scaredy cat. If one was to take a walk down memory lane and remember the happenings, which had occurred since the beginning of this program, there was nothing wrong in this assembly. In fact, it was strange that there was so little contrast between them. The group ahead was of a far better standard, Nowhereian standard that is.

As the chocobos playfully trotted down the dusty road, Hakuren, who was riding next to Harper, took the opportunity to have a friendly chat.
"With this much energy, taking that dragon on will probably be a piece of cake for them." he spoke with a smile to the glasses-wearing lad. "Say, Riddle, seeing as that is your family name, how about I give you one? It's very easy to figure out.
I can be made.
I can be had.
I can't be said.
I can't be sad.
What am I?

"Jasper, if you'd prefer you can ride with me. They're gentle, these are the mounts given to those new to the infantry"

Drooping her head downwards a bit, she contemplated whether she should take Serenade's offer of riding together like partners, yet she didn't want to be a burden to both the poor bird and the dark-eared bunny. Surely Serenade would have hard time calming her down while also controlling the mount. Eyes pretending to be preoccupied as she already settled on not riding one, a fluffy warmth settled on her left shoulder which made her gasp lightly in surprise as she jerked away from the contact.

"See, one of them likes you already."

The Chocobo's eyes were huge, gleaming, and mesmerizing, reaching for her trust immediately. But still, she felt uneasy and indecisive about riding it. It pleaded with her, chirping purringly in encouragement and reassurance.

"They're nice!"

"Saddle up, Bear. It's not like it will eat you. Just don't let it look at you sideways."

The comment caught her attention quickly as she looked from the cute Chocobo to Harper who was riding in circular motions with his own, the bird looking somewhat sickly after every rotation. Serenade called for the line up of the giant birds and the one who was being patient with her bent its head down like a gentleman, presenting easy access to its back. Still extremely hesitant, she no longer wanted to trouble Serenade so she cautiously creeped a leg over the lowered neck and awkwardly panted her flat bottom on its back. Sensing that its rider had finally gotten on, it swooped itself back up, causing the albino to plop a little lower into a comfortable position rather than at the base of its neck.

Jasper's blinking sped up rapidly as she squealed in panicked shock as the Chocobo stragtened up to its full height again. It was tall enough that her feet no longer touched the ground. Most of the humans and the guide couple had already exited the stable to race outside while Serenade, herself, and a few of the shyer individuals stayed behind. Haku and Leon were formal types, probably staying for a valid logical reason.

Seeing Harper find the Chocobo's name by examining a tag around its neck, Jasper grabbed her Chocobo's so she would be able to call it something instead of just 'bird'. Getting hold of the plate, she read its name aloud, "Baboo.." It swivelled its head around in response, looking like it was smiling at her even though the creature possessed a beak instead of lips. It cantered softly behind Hakuren and Harper towards the barn doors.

Looking ahead, on the far side of the field near a large tree, she could make out cheerful figures of the other humans gathering at its base, looking happy, but their birds looking a little tired, probably recovering from the race.

By now, Lesley was having such a good time that he was comfortable enough to to only use one hand to hold onto the reigns, his other hand raised high in the air, stretched towards the sky. The wind cutting around his thin fingers in crisp fluid motions. Momentarily getting lost in the 'feels', he let his carefree nature take control as he closed his eyes, a content grin sprawled across his face, wisps of hair licking and whipping wildly at his cheeks. Remembering that he was currently participating in a race, teleported back into reality, grabbing the reigns with both hands once again. Leaning over the side of Serge's long neck, he began chanting "Gayshul Greens" repeatedly, the Chocobo powering on with the immensely stimulate providing words. In no time, his bird was galloping for Inadi's, the two staying side by side for a few meters before, charging on past him with Ace as the next person to beat.

"Gayshul Greens! Gayshul Greens!" He sounded as if he were cheering for a basketball as one in a crowd of hundreds, his hand in a determined fist as they raced on around the distracted red head looking at Riley go tumbling off to side after she caught him cheering Serge on with the promise of food. Luckily she fell into a flower bed, but later crashing into a tree. The feminine man let out an exaggerated gasp as he pressed a hand over his heart in concern although he continued to bound off for the oak tree. Ace was distracted by the sudden accident that she didn't even notice him fly by her to take the lead.

But soon enough, the oak tree was only a mere couple of yards away, his worry expeditiously transformed into jubilance as he neared the finish line to claim victory. Huffing and puffing in sync with his Chocobo, they screeched to a dusty halt at the tree base in celebration of his success. The other three followed in a series after him, all of them scrambling to stop the energized birds, crashing even, the force needing to be released elsewhere in order for them to finally settle down in place.

Riley: "Looks like none of us win. Pfft, and to think Lesley started last."

Their guides were already there, discussing some important business, meanwhile Lesley cupped a hand over his brows, squinting slightly in order to see the rest of the humans gradually approaching them. They were taking their time, calmly clopping along at a decent pace and soon enough they arrived and the group was once again reunited as a whole.

Hakuren wasn't so bad, when he wasn't laughing at near death situations. Harper flashed the older boy a smile and laughed a little, "let's hope it'll be as easy as that. If we're lucky maybe Nowhere's dragons will shoot candy canes instead." Joking about the mission made it seem less serious. Leila's, Jasper's, and Leon's mounts trotted behind them locked in a conversation while Harper's Chocobo stuck beside Hakuren's.

Parsely gave Alcyona a happy kweh. All of the mounts seemed to be good friends.

Harper gave his own mount a pat then turned to look at the trio not too far behind. "We should probably go meet the others." He sounded determined, the boy tapped his boots against his Chocobos' sides and the bird sped up a little. Hakuren also gave him a riddle, "I'm not very good at those," he answered as he struggled a little with the reins. There was a moment of silence before he gave the older boy a quizzical stare. "What's the answer?"

"Sheesh, can you guys get any slower?" Riley waved both hands above her head a gigantic grin stuck to her face.

Zephy had declared Lesley the winner and Avian and Victoria were looking seriously at the tallest mountain in the distance. The dirt path would get them there in a few hours if they focused on the mission at hand. The guides got onto their own mounts and began leading the way.

"We'll see 'em soon enough, Ace." The girl chirped before squinting her eyes and glaring at Lesley. "Just you wait," came a playful mumble.

The Lost souls left the fields and Sol's castle grew smaller and smaller before disappearing completely.
The Chocobos ambled along after the guides. They had been walking for a while already and were growing closer and closer with each minute.

The castle could and fields could no longer be seen and mountains were scattered all around. The dirt path was empty save for the lost souls and their mounts and the sky above them was an ominous gray. Serenade kept behind everyone, just to make sure no one got left behind.

"We're getting close." The road was growing steeper and forests caves surrounded the mountain.

"Sooo the dragon lives somewhere up there, in cave?" Riley asked.

The black rabbit nodded her head. "We can't just charge in. We'll need the element of surprise, we'll have to say good bye to the mounts for now."

The humans got off their Chocobos and said their goodbyes. The chickens began kwehing noisily before they got in line and marched towards Sol together. They were on their own now.

"Won't it notice us though?" Harper stated, worry bubbling up to the surface.

"We'll just have to be extra quiet." Riley added in, "So what are we waiting for, let's go get 'em!" The girl scrambled up the steepening road and with much effort managed to climb over a slippery looking rock. She stuck to the dirt road, occasionally hopping over larger stones. "Leon? Do you think you can use some of your wind magic to help us?"

Inadi watched as Ace and Lesley screeched by him and crossed the oak tree finish line before him, though he eventually thought less of it and let out a sigh. Yes he wanted to win the event, but in the end he enjoyed himself too much to actually be mad at losing the race. He pulled up on his reigns and looked down at Pini, who was letting out a few gasps of breath to try and settle the rapid beating in his chest. Finally letting out a quick breath he held his neck out proudly, as if trying to make himself look bigger than the other birds.

The spectacle wearing boy laughed and petted the large bird on the neck to calm it. “No need to try and compensate there big guy. We did the best we could.” He told his Chocobo, which gave a nod and a kweh in response. It was amazing how smart these birds were based on how they reacted to what each of them had said to them. They react to the word Gyshal Greens, they seem to understand the phrases they were telling them as a group. Definitely not some mindless mount to just be ridden into battle that was for sure.

With the word battle entering his thoughts, Inadi let out a sigh as he began directing Pini's reigns towards the rest of the group. Guides were gathered and it seemed like they were preparing to send them out hunting for the dragons. Looking to the side of his saddle, Inadi saw his spear still resting in the small holster he was able to put it in before the race. Here he was hoping he would be able to relax and not have to worry about getting eaten alive so soon.

Finally joining in with the rest, he listened closely to the group. Riley seemed concerned with how far the mountain was, and rightfully so. Inadi wasn't sure if they had any supplies that would last for a long trip. Plus you had to add into account the Chocbos and other mounts. They would need food and water as well at some point. Just as he was ready to ask that question, he heard Ace talk about how she wanted to see the dragons actually.

Inadi was dumbfounded. How could someone, especially one who apparently had already experienced so many near death experiences due to the journey the queen and sent them off to earlier, be so excited to be exposed to yet another potentially dangerous adventure. It was almost as if she was a glutton for punishment. Something Inadi had to learn more about. “So is it just the idea of adventure that gets you excited or is it the fact that danger comes along with it?” He asked, trying his best not to sound rude when asking the question. Taking the reigns back up he began following the guides to the large dirt path on their way. “Because I honestly wouldn't think anyone would be this excited to potentially have to fight and kill something that could eat each and everyone of us in a single bite.”

Finally reaching the section of the caves that the dragon was supposed to be, Inadi got off his Chocobo with the rest of the group. Giving Pini one last pet on the head he took his spear off the saddle and watched as the bird began running off. He couldn't help but feel a little emotional at the sight of the bird leaving, but in the end duty called. Turning back around he followed the rest of the group towards the impending danger and possible death that was potentially the dragon. Honestly, the things he got dragged into. He stayed close to Ace, waiting for her to finally respond to his question as they approached rocks that seemed to have just experienced a light rain or something. They were surprisingly slick. Luckily for Inadi, his spear proved to be a capable walking stick. Each time he stuck the spear in the ground, it seemed to pierce it like a knife cutting a fresh baked pie. Much like he would do back at Mr. Cuddles' shop.

He turned the memories away as he began trekking up some larger stones, just as slick as some of the smaller ones while Riley stuck to the dirt road nearby. Hearing her request for magic from Leon, Inadi shook his head. "I think it would be better to save as much magic as possible." He said in a slightly lighter voice. If a dragon was nearby he didn't want to wake it. A cranky dragon would definitely not be a pretty sight. "We don't know when this dragon will show up. It's best we keep all our powers saved up so we can hit it with everything we got once and just be done with this whole chore." He said as he leaned against his spear that he had just stuck into a stone. This magic was useful, but it should be saved for only the biggest worst case scenarios.

“Goodbye, babies!” Victoria called out softly and waved at the retreating figures of the white tiger and her husband’s wolf mount. Meanwhile, Avian caught up to Harper and tapped him on the shoulder, an apologetic expression flitting over the guide’s face as soon as the boy turned around. “Congratulations, boy,” The young lady finally turned away from her beloved Illumine and then sidled over to Lesley, giving him her congratulations in a hushed tone and then moving on to the front of the group.

“I’m sorry I wasn’t able to answer your question earlier. I was uh, preoccupied,” He smiled ruefully and then jumped on to answer Harper’s inquiry about the dragons. “As a matter of fact, the dragons are one of the nicest creatures here in Nowhere. They’re so friendly that everybody in Aven, the kingdom where I come from, has their own dragon companion. They love playing with children too, so if you go to a nursery you’d see tiny hatchlings snuggling with the toddlers. It’s very adorable, really, and none of us certainly expected that anything like this would happen,” Avian explained. He looked confused and a bit hurt as he tried to make the human understand the impact of the situation.

“If you humans have trouble climbing up, tell me. You can grab on to my whip,” Victoria tossed the offer over her shoulder. Unlike her position in front, her husband took step on the rear of the group in case some of the humans tripped, so that he could act as a barrier should they roll down the path.

“So, Serenade, do you have a plan? About the humans, I mean. We’ll pipe in best as we can, but our main priority here is to make sure none of them come back to Queen Delirium with less a head, if possible,” The male soldier called out to the black bunny girl as they continued trudging up the path, which kept getting steeper and rougher.

Songbird looked up from the building blocks piled up on the corner of the room. Against his better judgment he had allowed himself to be towed away to the nursery where Martini was. Thankfully all the little kids were asleep or else he’d hang himself from the rafters. Kids just loved talking to him for some reason, and he wasn’t in the mood to listen to some yapping.

“Nap time. Reminds me of before,” He muttered cryptically, staring at the bundled mounds sleeping in a convoluted mess in the middle of the room. The kids all slept on top of a thick Persian rug, and their different blankets made them look like patchwork.

Soon didn't come fast enough for Ace's fast paced life. She was excited to see them, and she still stuck by her goal. Everyone began to walk off on their birds so she hopped back on Dipper. "Don't worry Fluff. No running. You can take it easy." She smiled and petted his neck as it shook its feathers a little before starting at a comfortable pace. As tired as Dipper was, she didn't expect to be line leader again. In fact, she was holding her place in the back with the slower riders. Even in all her excitement, Ace did understand that her large ball of Fluff had to take a break, so she kept her excitement to be first down, and only talked about the dragons.

Though even the fiery Ace had to calm herself down. She wanted to keep enough energy to conquer the dragons. "So, Leon, Haku, any interesting ideas as to how to get a dragon to laugh? I don't think jokes will work." She asked those two because they seemed to be the most inquisitive and creative. As far as intelligence went, they were probably right up that alley too. Just as she asked, Inadi spoke up.  With a raised brow of curiosity, mainly because she had yet to actually talk to the new male, she listened.

Ace gave him a questionable look. What was he talking about danger and fighting? There was no danger. Danger only came when you were hurt. But, he must've not known that. Ace giggled lightly and shook her head. "You aren't excited to see a creature everyone tells you that doesn't exist? To answer your question, you can say that it's the adventure then, although, I'm always excited. Why wouldn't I be? And you're mistaken Inadi. To get a dragon's laugh doesn't involve killing and fighting. Or means we have to tame it. And that'll be the best thing ever!"  The girl paused and jumped off Dipper.

"Take care Fluff. Maybe I'll see you some time later. Remember to be the best and be happy." Ace laughed when the bird put his head against hers almost like a gentle headbut. She patted him one final time and then waved as he left. "Take care Dipper!" With a final nod, Ace turned back to Inadi. "If you don't recall, I've already said that I planned on taming one of these dragons. It shall be done! But you can't make a dragon laugh through violence."

Ace shrugged, assuming that was the best explanation that she could give. Seeing the stones, it reminded her of when Harper and Jasper were with her climbing up the mossy stones. With a grin, she jumped on them and looked over at the two. "There's no moss this time Jasper, but please do be careful." Ace gave a two finger salute before bounding up the rocks, quite recklessly compared to Inadi.

He held firm to the ground, but Ace moved too much for her to slip in one place. Step by step she jumped on the slippery rocks, and each jump she had to catch herself by either continuing her jumping or by leaning forward. It was neuter to fall forward than backwards. Hearing that the dragons were friendly made her grin. "This should be all the more fun. And easier too!" If they were friendly enough to play with children, they had to be amazing companions.

Guides and humans were all grouped together again and with a short exchange of words, they were well on their way towards the dragon's den. The path was gradually elevating which each step of her Chocobo. She could tell because she was having a harder time staying on his back without slowly slipping backwards. Hollowed rocks formed various caves scattered about their path, while humongous trees surrounded the dirt road in forestry and shrubs. Clinging securely to Baboo's reigns, a sharp, steep wall of rocks came into view and she soon came to realize what they were going to do. The Chocobo's were flightless birds and it was a fact she could perceive quite easily since their wings were rather smaller in proportion, too small to support its overall body mass. Heart sinking to the pit of her stomach, the climb would be a concoction of terror from her fear of heights and terrible hand eye coordination. Rock climbing was an activity she had only ever tried once, much like horse back riding, but it was horrid all the same. Her biggest issue, grabbing onto supportive holds and getting her body to maneuver effectively.

"We're getting close." The road was growing steeper and forests caves surrounded the mountain.
"Sooo the dragon lives somewhere up there, in cave?" Riley asked.
"We can't just charge in. We'll need the element of surprise, we'll have to say good bye to the mounts for now."
"Won't it notice us though?"
"We'll just have to be extra quiet. So what are we waiting for, let's go get 'em!"

Hopping off her ride, she gave Baboo a pat and watched somewhat sadly as he joined the Chocobo line up and frowned as they marched off back the way they had come from. She had previously assumed that the birds would be staying with them to battle with the dragons, but the prediction has proven false since they were to continue on with the journey on foot. Jasper huffed a bit as she followed on after Ace who as usual, was tackling the task with eagerness and determination.

"There's no moss this time Jasper, but please do be careful."

Nodding her head, she was glad to have support from someone like Ace, always willing to try new things and harbouring a self-esteem that didn't seem to waver at the onset of a challenging task, especially life threatening ones. Following their lead, she carefully placed a firm hold on one of the smaller rocks and calculated where her foot should go before steadily lifting her body off of ground level and to the gradually steepening slope sky-bound.

“If you humans have trouble climbing up, tell me. You can grab on to my whip,”

The offer grabbed her attention almost immediately, the thought of much needed support in climbing this was wholly attractive and she wasn't about the turn that away.

"Miss, may I please hold onto your whip?" she asked shyly, still clinging strongly onto the rocky surface, but her gaze was pleading.

How Leon hated that mutant-chicken. That ‘mutant-chicken’, in fact, had a name. After glancing at the name tag on its collar, Leon learned that its actual name was ‘Candycane’, yet he couldn’t be bothered to remember the ridiculous name either.

While it had tagged along near the end of the group due to Leon’s trouble with staying upright on the bird, the very sight of its fellow Chocobos sent Candycane into a frenzy. Its rider was already having trouble staying on as it gently paced along, but when it decided to follow the other Chocobos, things got out of hand. Leon was inches off from falling off the bird as he held onto its neck, his left leg slipping towards the ground every second.

Eventually, however, Leon gave in to his fate and hung off the animal draped across its back like a piece of luggage. As it came to a halt, he slipped sideways off of the bird like a lifeless body and remained facedown on the ground for several long moments. Dragging himself up off the dirt, Leon stood up, legs shaking, and dusted himself off. While the others were parting with their mounts, some more lovingly than others, Leon looked Candycane in the eye.

“I don’t like you.”

Still mildly miffed at the bird, Leon trudged at the back of the group, unconcerned at the laborious dirt road ahead of them. Hearing Riley address him, Leon smiled and replied, “Vincent-san is right, I’m afraid. Giving you all a boost would drain me too fast. Even with Jasper-san’s healing thingy, it wouldn’t last long.”

The white staff dug into the rocks, helping him heave himself up and soon he was ahead of the rest by a few feet. As of right now, his only concern was his clothes. They weren’t too bad in his opinion and though he wouldn’t care if they burned to a crisp, he did feel the need to be clothed at this moment, and dressed well. His strange attire didn’t scream ‘mage’ to him, nor did it say ‘haute couture’. Stuck somewhere in between, it nagged Leon more than he thought was healthy. However, he ignored it, and instead inspected his reflection in the airy blue orb perched on the top of his staff while waiting for the others to catch up. His crown complemented his eyes well, he had to admit, and he adjusted the shiny object before smoothing his hair down.

He’d heard Ace fire a question in his and Hakuren’s direction, and he waited for the girl to finish speaking to the dark-haired boy before he answered. “I dunno, how about we shove one of us inside it – not me, thank you very much, these clothes don’t go well with dragon saliva – and tickle it from the inside out?” He was only half-serious as he suggested his outlandish solution, a small smile playing on his lips. “Or of course, we could put on a show. Are they capable of registering human speech?”

The climb soon turned more tiring than anything, and Leon found himself clinging to his staff for dear life. “I’m going to die.” He’d come to that logical conclusion in the first three minutes of intense climbing, and the idea of simply flying everyone up to the top of the mountain seemed ever more appealing. Logically, he would be dead before they reached the summit, but imagining it couldn’t hurt. The idea of holding onto the woman’s whip and having her drag him up the rest of the way didn’t sound too appealing; who knew where that whip had been. Truth be told, he didn’t feel as tired as he let himself show but climbing a mountain wasn’t on the top of his to-do list. “Why couldn’t the dragons live in a lagoon something? It’d reduce the risk of us falling down the mountain or being incinerated.”

Unlike most places in Nowhere, Sol had a sun, and now it was beginning to set.

The sky turned a shade of lavender and the air became chilly. The humans continued, huffing and puffing as they ascended. Some found it much easier than others, but the task was a tiresome and energy draining one. Serenade paused for a breather then turned to look at the humans. "Are you all doing alright?" She asked before squinting at the trees and fields below. They were high up now, and the scenery while breathtaking was somewhat alarming as well. If they were to fall from this height, it wouldn't be good. "It's getting dark, we should pick up the pace. I'm sorry about this." She mumbled, back in the human realm they probably didn't climb mountains in search of dragons. Unlike, Avian and Vicky, it was obvious the humans had no training whatsoever.

Avian looked a tad more serious than usual and muttered something about how the mountains were dangerous at night. "Wolves," he stated with a frown. Victoria looked amused, they were the best of the best after all.

"Pfft, we have powers. Wolves? They're just over-sized puppies." Riley looked weary but she persevered, grabbing onto bigger rocks and hoisting herself up. "I mean we can just burn 'em, right Ace?"

Harper was falling behind a little, legs numb and lungs burning. "How much farther?" He wheezed.

"Just a few more kilometers, I think, or do Nobodies say stuff like just twenty dragons away." Riley laughed and Harper wondered how she was still able to joke around in such a situation. He didn't reply, he needed as much air as he could get.

They trudged on but paused when Serenade stopped dead in her tracks, ears twitching. There was a howl followed by the rapid thumping of several paws on dirt. The nearby bushes rustled and the guides' eyes went wide. "Hurry!" Serenade yelled before motioning for the humans to follow, but before they could even see the threat, a cold gust of air whipped at their faces and several angry snarls echoed across Mt. Nimbus.

There was flash of light, a crackle of fire, and a soft green glow. Suddenly, elemental wolves surrounded them.

They weren't just wolves, they didn't even seem like physical creatures. They were ghost-like wisps and momentary flashes of light, nothing more.

Avian was yelling for the humans to retreat, something about getting into one of the mountain caves NOW. Serenade whipped out her violin, but a gust of air sent it flying away. The black rabbit yelled, "these aren't just slimes, humans, these creatures...they're way out of your league. Do what they say!" Avian grabbed at his weapons and pointed to a cave not much farther up. However, before he, Vicky, or Serenade could come to the human's rescue vines snaked out of the earth and held their feet in place.

"Oh," Riley stared at a momentary flicker of light. The wind began to howl and she held out her hand bringing a fireball to life. "Don't worry! We'll help you!" She yelled as she skipped off a ledge and made her way towards the more even path.

"Get back!" Serenade took a step forward only for one of the vines to yank her by the arm and raise her up. The black rabbit cursed and grabbed a pen knife out of its sheathe with her free hand.

"We've got this!" Riley assured before looking at the other humans for backup.

Harper unsheathed his own sword, the liquid inside his amulet beginning to glow. He had a bad feeling about it. "We should head to the caves," his voice was almost none existent due to the crackle of both fire and lightning. "Let's go now," if Sol's best fighters thought running was the best option then it had to be.

The fire mage however attacked and when she did a strong gust of wind whipped at her, there was a sharp sting on her side and before she knew it her legs gave way and she fell back, another gust blowing her off the mountain.

Avian and Vicky cut themselves free and ran into the fray, there was so much yelling, and so much chaos. Harper didn't know what he was doing but soon he was scrambling up the mountain with a few of the other humans, some of the others stayed and they were getting yelled at.

The ground beneath them opened up and Serenade was yelling at them like crazy to get to the nearest cave. They did, but as soon as they stepped inside the mountain shook and the entrance was sealed shut.

Those who remained on the mountain witnessed a blinding flash tear through the sky, a gust of wind unlike any they had felt before swept them off their feet and soon they were tumbling down the mountain and into one of the forests below.

Group One - Forest

Group Two - Cave

There was so much blood. Riley raised a hand to her face and watched numbly as five fingers multiplied into ten. The world was tilting and flashes of color danced across her vision. Funny, there was so much air, but it was getting so much harder to breath. She tried to call out but the only thing that left her mouth was a squeak. The girl turned her head and saw blurry outlines of the others. There was a burning sensation, Riley wondered if this was what dying felt like.

She stared at the sky, it was dark...everything was going dark.

Inwardly rejoicing in his Chocobo race triumph, he hungrily accepted all given congratulations on his victory with a grin so wide that when it finally came to return his expression back to its norm, his cheeks ached a tad from the deformation. When the others finally made it to the scene, the guides were quick to briefly instruct their following task and trotted off down a dirt road towards the mountains. Naturally, the guides positioned themselves at the head off the pack with at least one lagging behind for supervision amongst the humans. Lesley allowed Serge to regain his breath, tailing the end of the group. Turning his head 360° backwards he squinted at the shrinking figure of the stable and shadowing it, the castle. He stared at it until the structures were little more than a dark crumb in the darkening sky.

The group trudged on in casual silence, with short mumbles of word exchange here and there. Meanwhile, the path they were following was beginning to become less defined and much more rugged, steepening with every step. Large roots from the surrounding trees choked at the dry crust of soil which was supposedly the trail which they were following. Plantation and greens of various sorts bloomed along the land, some spilling onto their way, nearly masking the tracks. Caving rock formations also began to hint they were nearing the mountain, signalling its possible dangers of sediment slides, the stones varying from tiny pebbles to boulders as big as buses. Death would be inevitable if one were to tumble down with that during a snowless avalanche composing just of lethal rocks. Eventually, the slope turned nearly into a ninety degree angle, they had finally reached the mountain base, the ground on which they were stepping on was no longer made of worn out soil, but solid mountain rock, jagged and uneven.

Looking up, Lesley could hardly make out where the mountain met the sky, since the sun was so close to setting, no longer providing a sufficient light source. All they knew was that the dragons they were after lived up there.

"You were a good lil' Chocobo and a terrific racer Serge," he wrapped his lank arms around the bird's neck as he took the creature into a warm embrace,"I'll miss you buddy."
And they were off, their feathery bums wiggling in the distance as they marched off in single file, a line up so clean cut it would make Zephy proud. The bird march was straighter than any line the humans ever made. Swivelling on his heels, he swiped a tear from the corner of his eye to join the group on their climb up the mountain side. Leon was leading with a couple of the guides an arms length away. Jasper was secured onto Victoria's whip while the lot of them were moving along independently. The climb was a laborious task, beads of sweat trailing along his forehead, but luckily the air was crispening into a cooling temperature since the sun had mostly gone down. For once in his life, his hair was being a huge bother, wisps landing in his mouth making it much more of a struggle to climb when he would loose the support of one hand in order to yank the strand out. All the while, what made it even more annoying was that he had a hair tie wrapped around his wrist, but since he couldn't take both hands off of the alp to ponytail his hair back, he had to suffer staring at the hair tie while he climbed.

Some of the humans were beginning to whine as the time dragged on, muscles in his arms and leg were burning and his stomach felt empty cept' some pink hair he may have ended up swallowing. Nowhere couldn't have been less fabulous. The black-eared bunny muttered something about how far up they were from ground level, her eyes glinting while she looked down. He felt sick to his stomach. Lesley couldn't believe the guts of that girl to even take a peek below, just imagining it made him woozy and turned the color of his face to match the forestry landscaped underneath them.

Serenade: "It's getting dark, we should pick up the pace. I'm sorry about this."

They continued to push onward a couple more feet until the wolves they seemed to be joking about just a few minutes before suddenly howled into reality. Fear struck across everyones face, the shrubs that managed to thrive on the mountain's dry, lapidarian surface shook wildly, their leaves rustling off as strong cuts of wind slashed at them, Lesley clinging on as angry snarls rung through his eardrums. Colorful flashes of light illuminated in split moments before evaporating into ghostly nothings, the bright shocks leaving dark imprints in his vision much like the flashing of a camera.

The gusts screamed, mixing with the guides commands to make way for a near by cave just a few more meters towards a cliff that jutted out from the stony terrain. He tried to follow orders while others stayed in place to fight even though Serenade had clarified that they were no match. Vines sprouted from the lifeless gray of rubble, binding the guides. He could make out half the group disappearing over the outreach which held the cave as he strived to get there with his grasp starting to fail as the rockbed thundered violently beneath his desperate hold.

FWOOSH
A blast of wind surged him free from the mountain, limbs flying up as his weight propelled down. His hearing cut out and it was quiet. An emerald face of a canine blinked into his view, but vanished just as rapidly as it sparked to reveal itself. Turning his head side to side he noticed four other figures descending to their doom along with him. Air currents made his clothing flutter fiercely, his hair whipping his face, the cold wind making his cheeks sting. He was deadly afraid to even peep down at the view they were about the meet.

Thwap. Rustle. Tch. THUD
A tree and its thick, leafed branches had hoarsely cushioned his fall, but still the landing was unforgiving.

An eternity passed, and pain boomed in his head like a deep drum along with a low rumbling smash of a gong. His eyelids felt like a ton and lifting it was a queasy chore, his vision a perplexing swirl. It was hazed over and spinning, dizzying. Closing his eyes to regain a better perception of reality, a pressure could be felt weighing against his stomach, yet his arms and legs felt free and flowing.

Lesley was draped over a branch like a towel hanging on a rack.

The sky darkened and the wind picked up. Ace was focused on getting to their destination. Even she was getting tired of all the climbing. "This is boooring. And tiresome." She called back to Serenade, giving her opinion of her being alright. Rock after rock, and climb after climb. Ace had long since given up on bounding and being wreckless. If most of her energy was gone thanks to the mountains, she would be way too tired to accomplish her goal. The mention of wolves made her look down to Avian. She laughed a little as she spoke. "By the sound of it, these wolves may not be too friendly." And of course Riley was there to spark the flame of her enthusiasm.

"Pfft, we have powers. Wolves? They're just over-sized puppies."
"I mean we can just burn 'em, right Ace?"

This made Ace grin and put a thumbs up in the air. "The wolves have nothing compared to our skills! Nothing can stop us now!" She looked at the group and then continued upwards.  "We're like, at our prime. If sonnet of us can survive near death experiences, I'm sure we can do or again!" When Serenade stopped, Ace huffed a little. "Hey, come on, we're losing day-" The howl pierced the air, making Ace look around. The wolves were much closer than anticipated. But no matter. She could still help out and stop them.

There was flash of light, a crackle of fire, and a soft green glow. Suddenly, elemental wolves surrounded them.

Seeing the less than normal wolves, Ace's eyes widened. Not in fear, but in awe. Each wolf represented an element. Fire, air, earth, and lightning. It wasn't a complete set considering there was no water wolf, but they looked amazing! "Incredible! Their beautiful!" She had to squint and turn her head when the gust of wind pushed at them. Screams of retreating and going into caves were drowned or by the wolves snarling and growling, along with Ace's astonishment. She was snapped out of it when she heard Riley yelling to attack. She climbed to the more even path next to Harper. Before she pulled out her weapon, Harper suggested leaving. And then she noticed their guides sick in place.

"It's alright, it shouldn't be too hard-" Once again, her fighting was put on hold because Avian and Vicky were running toward them and ushering them out of the way. Ace found herself climbing the mountain once again alongside Harper. "Aw man... I could've helped." With a sigh, she continued climbing.

"There's the cave! Let's go!" She managed to get to another even surface and help a few others get to the cave. The shake off the earth made her hurry into the cave. "Ow..." She mumbled when a rock, thankfully not to large, hit her head. She took her hat off and rubbed her head before putting it back on. Just as Ace stepped in, the cave closed completely. She looked back, realizing how close that came to crushing her. With a whistle, Ace looked around in the dark cave. "All of us didn't make it through. I'm sure they're okay, but who do we have?" She stood by the newly made wall and taped it to see if it would budge. But to no avail did it move.

"And the only way out is to the end of the cave... unless you want to smash through, buuut, I'm more curious to know what's on the other side." Being in the cave reminded her of the first time they ended up in one. Except she was in a different group, and the creepy nobodies weren't at the end harassing her friends.

"Marcooo?"

Considering no one said 'Polo', Ace assumed it was quiet and empty on the other end. But she decided to wait for everyone to gather themselves before she hurried forward. Time was of the essence, but everyone's health and safety was important too.

Inadi gave a questionable look to Ace while letting out a sigh. Tame a dragon? How was the the first thing on her mind. For as peppy as she acted she definitely seemed to be a little insane. Albeit in a cutesy way, but insane nonetheless. Last thing Inadi wanted to do was tame a bloody dragon. He would just as soon want to brave the labyrinth and face the Minotaur with a straw before he did that. Usually dragons had a desire for two things in all the stories he had read. Gold was one. Inadi never understood why since there was no place for the dragon's to spend it. Things that big and vicious didn't need to pay taxes either he thought with a chuckle.

The other thing was flesh. Albeit sometimes it was livestock more than anything, but some dragons did eat people and other humanoid creatures. Dwarves, elves, man. Didn't really matter. So long as they were filling. The thought of swimming in the belly of such a large creature made Inadi cringe as he continued to pull himself up onto the slippery rocks.

Ace, though she was a bit on the odd side, seemed to be genuinely kind enough that she never seemed perturbed by his questions or curiosity. He at least could commend her for that. He wouldn't mind digging into her mind a little more later on, just to see what exactly made her such a cheery person. The boy just prayed that she was not like this early in the morning. If there was one thing Inadi hated dealing with it was morning people. Luckily for him when he first arrived in Nowhere, Mr. Cuddles turned out to be just like him. Slow to start but fast once woken up. Definitely more so an afternoon kind of person....or bear in this case.

Watching the sun begin to set he began bringing his hand up to his arm that held his spear, which at this point may as well have become a crutch. The air was suddenly much colder now, which he assumed was because of the wet surroundings of the forest. The worst thing that could happen now was if there was a storm that suddenly began bursting above them. Inadi quickly leaned next to a nearby tree and tapped it with his knuckles, praying that his thought wouldn't cause bad luck to head their way.

After he did so one of the guides suddenly began yelling back at him and the rest of the humans. Inadi's eyes shot up, worried that it was a dragon coming. Quickly, he grabbed his spear and began running with it. He had the idea at one point to try and pole vault his way towards everyone but decided against it. He was definitely not athletic enough to try that, let alone think he could do it.

A sudden flash of light blinded Inadi due to his glasses and he grew nervous. As the light died out he looked and say the outlines of the elemental wolves. Through sheer reflexes along, Inadi flashed the tipped edge of his spear towards the wolves. He backed off slowly, monitoring the small subtle movements of the wolves as they seemed to just stand there snarling. Inadi felt a new chill climb up his back as he began following the rest of the group. For whatever reason he seemed to be moving just fast enough so he would be close enough to the group that if any other wolves appeared he would be there to fight them off. Yet he kept facing the wolves that they did see with his spear still stretched out. Somehow he got the worst job out of the group by default it seemed. Last line of defense.

Seeing Riley and Harper now beginning to struggle as well as the guides, Inadi decided that it was best to just start moving on and followed some others into the cave they were mentioning. He felt badly that he wasn't really caring who was in front or behind him, but he desperately wanted to save his own hide before there was nothing left to say. Some rocks hit him in the back, but the rush of adrenaline made him almost unaware of the damage. Leaping his way into the cave he was able to enter just before the cave closed the only entry way in.

Inadi picked himself up and started feeling the effects of the escape. His chest was on fire and his back suddenly felt like a heavyweight boxer had just wailed on him for eight rounds. He thought eight because he knew wouldn't last ten.

Hearing the small call of Marco from a familiar voice, Inadi decided to respond. “Polo. Ugh. Talk about a rough hike.” He said with a groan as he picked himself up and walked towards where he heard the voice. It was dark, but there was just enough light coming from the caved in section of the wall due to the slivers of space between the rocks. “So this thing looks like it would be a pain to get through. Best thing is to keep going down the tunnel like you said. For once, I think adventure is the best option here.” Inadi said as he felt the wall of rocks behind them. It was heavy, wet and most of all too big for any of them to handle.

Inadi let out a sigh as he sat down with his back resting on the caved in entrance. Resting his spear up on his shoulder he looked up at Ace with an agitated look. “This all seems like a bad fantasy novel. Almost like J.R.R. Tolkien's book when that giant squid thing traps his heroes in a mine. I just pray this place doesn't have any nasty goblins.” He thought out loud. Resting his head on the rocks behind him, he waited for others to announce themselves. That is if there was anyone else alive in the cave. Thinking about it though, Inadi realized he got his wish. He was probably going to get to know Ace a lot better it seemed, as well as whoever else was in this cave. A chuckle escaped his throat as he looked up at Ace with a half smile, trying to relax his muscles after the death defying escape they just did.

Collab between Crescendo and Fox

Group Two - The Caves

It was dark and damp, Harper fell flat on his face, listening to the sound of footsteps. Ace and Inadi had managed to make it inside with him, but he couldn't hear any of the others. His amulet began to glow and it served as a tiny lamp. He could see shadowy figures, there were five of them. "Polo?" He called out before hopping to his feet and dusting himself off. "Ace? Inadi?" The boy squinted at the two other figures. One of them looked like Leila? The other one wasn't as familiar.

"Polo? Who's Polo?" A voice piped up crossly, the owner picking herself off the floor and gingerly dusting herself off. Of all the beasts they could have encountered, they just had to run into those awful elemental wolves didn't they? It was unlike them to appear in the area and they had caught the guides completely be surprise, causing this whole mess. "I knew I should've gone to scout forward." Zephy mumbled, peering around at the figures in the cave as best as she could with the little light that shone through the cracks. A glint of blue flashed in the corners of her eyes and she blinked in recognition, a small smile forming on her lips. Looks like they weren't completely out of luck just yet.

"I suggest you all close your eyes," she called out, before reaching down to grab a rock before smashing it in the direction of the blue sparkle. A brilliant flash lit up the cave, before gradually dimming down slightly into a soft but bright glow inside the blue crystal that Zephy had hit. The light revealed that they were in a sizeable cave, studded with similar crystals. The back of the cave stretched into darkness, the light of the one crystal not being enough to illuminate the place very far. After darting around and smashing a few more crystals into lighting up, she dusted her hands and looked around.

Glasses man was here, and so was booby woman and the young pale looking boy and the other shy looking girl. None of them seemed to be too injured and she gave a thankful sigh. It looks like the healer had ended up elsewhere so they would have to be extra careful. Speaking of the others, she did hope they were alright. The guides could take care of themselves even against the elemental wolves with a bit of difficulty, but the humans were unaccustomed to the dangers of Sol's forests.

There was bright flash of light and Harper shielded his eyes. It took awhile to adjust to the sudden light but when he did, he noticed the others who were stuck in the cave with him. Seeing Zephy made a wave of relief shoot through him, with the guide they would be alright. They just had to listen to her, right? Ace and Inadi suggested they go deeper and Harper spun around to see the exit blocked by giant boulders. If they had been just a tad too late, they would have been turned into pancakes. The far end of the cave was shrouded in darkness but they had their amulets and it would serve as a sourch of light for all of them. "It's our only option," he responded. "We should be careful though, bears or wildcats could be living here." Little did they know, wild animals would be the least of their problems.

Inadi mentioned nasty goblins and Harper laughed nervously. "If they come at us, we'll just have to beat them like we did the slimes," he didn't sound confident at all, but he was trying. "We have a guide with us as well," he nodded at Zephy. Then offered Leila a hand, the girl hadn't spoken at all. In fact, he almost never heard her say anything and if she ever spoke she's usually only say a word. "Let's go Leila, it shouldn't be too bad we have Ace and Zephy." He smiled at the redhead then marched forward. They needed to find the others and regroup as soon as possible.

Zephy ran to catch up with the hummons, inwardly sighing at how willing they were to just march off into the darkness. Bears and wildcats and goblins? If only those were what they needed to watch out for.

"I'll take the lead and scout ahead." She moved to the front of the group and turned backwards to face the small group, childish face unusually serious as she struck another crystal to light up their path. "To tell you the truth, if there was any other way out of the cave I would have suggested we try that first. Coming into the cave was a last resort- even the most experienced adventurers are hesitant to enter Sol's caves unprepared. When we encounter a monster, and there's no doubt we will, it's you people who'll have to do the fighting. I have no combat magic whatsoever, and my guard magic can't be used on other people." She took a deep breath. "The most I can do is try to choose a path that avoids monsters, lead them away if I have to, but whether we make it out or not will be up to you."

Harper froze. Experienced adventurers feared this cave and Zephy even said it was a last resort. They were going to die here, in the dark, where no one would hear their screams. Perhaps, there wouldn't even be bodies left to bury.

Group One: The Forest

1. Hakuren
2. Leon
3. Riley
4. Lesley
5. Jasper

The five of them tumbled down into a lush forest. The lucky ones had their fall broken by the thick underbrush piled under the trees, but the less fortunate humans woke up face down on the forest floor, soaked in shallow yet mossy rainwater. None of them suffered extreme injuries save for bruises and cuts given by the twisted vines everywhere, so if they met their other friends they would definitely think that they fell on the lesser evil. Jasper, albeit a bit scratched up like everybody else in their group, woke up with a small ‘present’ in her hand; Victoria’s whip lay tangled around her, the sleek black leather gleaming from under its half-submerged position in a puddle. It looks as if she dragged it down along with her.

The forest was quiet. There was that subsided noise of bugs chirping and the tree leaves prevented sunlight from coming in, so the area was quite cool and damp.

It was way too peaceful.

It was delightful to laugh away the time that did not exist. Hakuren found Harper’s remark amusing and wasn’t surprised at the fact that the boy could not answer him, albeit it was slightly disappointing that he didn’t even attempt to guess. Seeing as an answer was being anticipated, the mage decided to enlighten his knight companion.
“A laugh.” he told him with a short giggle.
Before the boys could delve into a proper conversation, a loud demanding voice let out a complaint for all that was around to hear. It was Riley and, apparently, she did not find the steady movement of the group pleasing at all. And with good reason. Despite there not being any time in existence, the welkin’s colour was certainly changing in a manner similar to the one on Earth. The two experienced guides were standing further along the path, observing the mountains in the distance. Without a doubt, their route was to go through there. After all, the dragon had been said to live somewhere up between the crags and cliffs, where no foreign foot could reach. It was no secret that their target’s lair was lay ahead.

Serenade, the black rabbit, had chosen to accompany the mercenaries on their journey and, once she had explained the need of the element of surprise, she told everyone to leave their mounts. Although it was not intended to sound as an order, rather as an instruction, the seriousness of her tone made the humans obey and they unsaddled. Whilst some had a rather emotional farewell with their Chocobos, Hakuren simply gave the female bird a good pat on the neck for a job well done, which she seemingly liked, judging by her light chirps of happiness. But it was when all of the avians let out calls at once that it became obvious why traveling on foot was a wise decision. They were noisy critters, their chorus echoed through the surroundings, making it evident that there was someone at the base of the mountain. If they were taken any further, they would be a perfect alarm clock for the fire-breathing beast, as well as for other predators that were lurking around in the woods.

With the last of the goodbyes now given, the creatures headed back to what looked like a blurry miniature figure. It had not felt like a long travel, yet they had made such progress from the castle. It was remarkable, something the green-blue-eyed youngster found intriguing. As much he would have liked to observe the birds retreat and measure the length of the road, his group would not have waited for him, if he had chosen to do so, thus the young man followed suit and began walking up the dirty unpaved path.
Just like any hike up the mountain, this was no easy task to accomplish and it didn’t take too long before the first complaints arrived, as well as suggestions on how to make this climb much easier. Upon one of Riley’s everso energetic proposals, which placed forth the idea of using Leon’s wind magic as a boost, Inadi retorted quickly, stating that it would be unwise to waste their precious energy on something so trivial. Indeed, the lightning magician was correct. It was risky to create a distortion through magic in this area so very early on. It was impudent to find an easy way out of this situation. One had to carry the burdens and endure the pain, in order for victory to taste sweet and be satisfying. But, most of all,...it was rather boring. Quite tedious, if you were to ask Hakuren. He did not think such a decision was foolish, yet found it more or less a waste. If they were given supernatural powers, they were meant to use them and, in battle, it was best to utilize their abilities properly and the only method of learning currently available to the novices was practice. Learning from one’s mistakes was proper education. Whilst they would be able to remain whole until they reached the dragon’s den by following Inadi’s opinion, once face to face with the tremendous beast, it would be as if they were gingermen freshly taken out of the oven. Not at all hardened and easily burning the flesh.

This being said, the ice wizard could not help but go against his comrade’s advice.
During his ascend up the rocky path, he had taken his scepter off his back and used it as a walking stick. In the process of having it assist his balance, the young man had inspected the object thoroughly, yet had not discovered anything astounding or remarkable. The pole itself was black and was as tall as him in height, made of something rather hard and strong, yet light like bamboo. The smiling moon piece was bigger in size than his own head, its gem sparkling lightly, much like his amulet. This was both favorable and not. There would be a source of light when the sun completely sank into the depths of the earth, yet this source of brightness could also attract unwanted attention. Nevertheless, as a whole, this staff had the potential to be lethal if a precise attack was executed with brute force. Whilst he noted how the moon at the top of his possession could serve a purpose similar to the blade of a scythe, he remembered Pinky and that awful smack she had given him with her pipe. If given the chance, the boy planned to gladly return the ‘favor’.

For a moment, Hakuren stopped in the middle of the track, in order to look upwards. Darkness was looming over the mountain tops, a ghostly white mist gracefully sliding around them. One could only stare in awe at these titans of rock, which were forever locked between the sky and land. The forest was quiet, not a bird to be heard, yet the group was not in the very depths of the woods. Rather, they were on a rocky periphery of sorts, a road which had been used in the past, thus local fauna did not dare come near. It was most likely for the best. Unexpected occurrences were not something some of them could handle well.
Taking into account all that was before them, the mage turned his scepter upside-down, so that the moon could face the ground, and mumbled:

“Glacies spiritus tormento”

In an instant, a huge piece of ice blasted him forward into the air. More precisely speaking, the ice, which had formed beneath him, was under such high pressure that it sent the human up into the air, leaving an enormous pike-like structure in the place where he had stood. This was quite the predicament indeed. Even for Hakuren, being shot up the trail was a new and rather unexpected way of transportation. Fortunately, the lad wasn’t sent too high, yet the figures of his comrades could easily fit in his hand. Having gained some altitude, naturally, what went up had to come down. As helpful as that law of physics often was, in this case landing on several cold hard rocks was not going to be a pleasant experience. In the nick of time, if there even was one, a solution to this little problem had to be found and, thankfully for him, his mind came up with one.

“Labor lapsus.”

It was not something magnificent or elaborate. Simply a slide, which formed rather nicely below him and lead to solid ground. This is not to say that the glide downwards and reaching of the bottom were comfortable. Overall, Hakuren gave the ride a C+ for “cool”, but it was not without its remarks. There were several bumps of improperly formed ice and the surface itself was rather rough, however, the impact was lighter than a flat fall from the heavens. Appropriate for practical needs, such as “quick saves”, yet not something worth adding to a theme park, it was an efficient emergency parachute.
Once more on his two feet, the magician looked back towards the rest of his group. He had not gone too far ahead, for all of the members were visible, their moans and groans still audible, but was currently in the lead. Rather than continue onwards, the young man leaned back on a colossal rock and patiently waited for the rest to catch up. Venturing further into the unknown and being the first in line was foolish, considering the fact that he had drained half of the liquid in his amulet in that stunt. Despite knowing that danger lurked behind every corner, it was a price he was willing to pay. Experimenting with this marvelous power was entertaining and made him even more curious about what he could do. One thing was certain, though. His scepter was not a witch’s broom.

Drop by drop the substance rose. Step by step the humans climbed. Hakuren, who observed in his moment of rest, found the nature that was around them to be very peaceful. There was something mystical about the forest at sunset. It was as if the trees were saying goodnight to one another before falling to sleep. It was as if the light was dying out, soundlessly screaming in sadness. It was wonderful. There had not been a single obstacle to block their way. Odd as it was, the black-blue-haired traveler remembered the cat bus. It had been just as pleasant and in a moment just as this one something out of the ordinary had happened. He could not help but wonder if this would be the case as well. A quiet before the storm.

‘So far, so good. Nothing has come in the way. If we keep going at this pace, we’ll face the dragon and be done with this quickly...Really now, it’s quite a shame. And to think we were given such awesome abilities. Wish we had more ~time~ to use them.’

A prophet or a guy who just likes summoning bad luck for his own amusement. It was of no importance.

An anthem of howls began, breaking the serenity of the atmosphere. Something rustled between the bushes. Something slid within the shadows. Paws pattered on hard soil. The sound of Serenade’s call announced the beginning of the attack.
A gust of wind blew from all sides, hitting the unsuspecting party. Growls and snarls came from the darkness between the trees before the enemy stepped into the light.
Wolves. As cliche as they were, these creatures were not at all ordinary if compared to their Earthly counterparts. These beings were magical, each being one of the four colous, yellow, green, white and red, respectively controlling one specific natural ability, over lightning, earth, air or fire. In addition, they belonged not so much to the physical as to the spiritual world, to that of their element. They were ghost-like, as if illusions created by trickery. Merging completely with what they possessed, only flashes of their outlines appeared when the said power was in use.
Lightning struck as one of the wolves snapped at the intruders. Several plants were lit on fire as another’s fur stood on end whilst letting out a low growl. And the wind kept howling on and on.
Both Avian and Serenade prepared for battle and yelled to the humans to take refuge in a nearby cave. Hakuren, who was barely able to hear a word due to the undying air current, made out what had been ordered through the guides’ gestures and terrified expressions and took a couple of steps, only to halt and watch once more as vines sprouted from the ground and took the Nowhereians hostage. In attempt to fend off this threat, one of the girls of a flame, Riley, manifested a ball of fire in order to counterattack. Although it was not hearable, it was obvious by the desperate widening and closing of the black bunny girl’s mouth that she was trying to reason with the young lady. Yet the lass proved just how suitable her magic’s nature was by not heeding anyone’s words of advice. She proceeded with her offensive movements, only to be blown off her footing and off the mountain itself.

‘Ah, another one went down the drain.’ Hakuren sighed in his mind.

There was no use mourning. Best keep those who remained alive. With the storm not even considering a ceasefire, the young man with the moon staff stayed low to the ground as he made his way to the cave. As unthinkable as it was, he actually stopped to look behind himself, in order to check on his companions. The motive was mere curiosity concerning the situation on the field and if there had been any more casualties, but at the sight of a flame tailing after Harper and a couple of others, he couldn’t help but stay awhile.
“Acus gelidus.” he let out a shout, creating a couple of big ice spikes in the fire wolf’s way.
This allowed the retreating group to reach the safety of the cave, but also decreased the liquid inside Hakuren’s charm, which now reached a line significantly below the middle. His head was pounding slightly and one or two stars flickered on and off in front of his vision.

’How bothersome. Seems it’s time to take my leave, stage right.’
‘What’s so weird about you?’ an echo reached from the back of his mind.
‘..? Huh?’

Standing in a daze, something temporarily shut the young man’s switch off, isolating him from reality. A voice? It was definitely not his own, but it sounded familiar. Quite certainly, he had heard the line before. Yet who had asked him such a thing? Him, of all people. None of the close friends he could still recall had ever inquired such a thing. Who was it? Someone who couldn’t see the difference between him and the rest? That was new and it made the youngster smirk. How naive, how innocent was that person? Or was it sarcasm? It pestered him, since he could not remember. There was something strange about this one-liner memory, which possessed no visuals whatsoever. A feeling quite peculiar. It made him feel cold.
Just as quickly as it had came, the haze vanished from his eyes, only to reveal to the wizard that he was no longer in his now former position. At present, he was losing altitude rapidly, along with Lesley, Leon and Jasper.
How it had come to this he had absolutely no idea and, with all honesty, he couldn’t care less. Once more, something was required to break his fall. Stretching his hand out and grabbing Leon by the shoulder, seeing as the two were close to each other, and grinned.
“Well, buddy, now’s your time to shine.” he told him, whilst his hair was being blown upwards, which from his perspective was to the side. Darn, that ponytail was out.
(insert Leon commentary)
Without much effort, Leon displayed the capability of his newfound power. It was handy to have an air-bender in a situation such as this one, for he was capable of slowing down the speed with which they fell, calming the air around them. As they descended, they carefully avoided the many branches of the century-old trees, before softly landing on the ground below.
“Nicely done, Leo-kun.” Hakuren congratulated him “Remind me to give you a cookie sometime around.”

Turning left and right, it looked as though they had landed in the middle of the heart of the forest. The trees stood tall, towering above them, their crowns lush and spreading out like an umbrella on a rainy day. Light barely reached the forest floor, where thin wisps of mist crept about here and there. Peculiar lights twinkled from time to time, as if they were fireflies, yet were not yellow. Rather, pink and green could ofttimes be seen, rarely ginger and blue. The air was damp, it felt so to the skin. Only sounds which resembled those of known bugs could be heard, sometimes even something close to a frog’s call. Not a person, other than the humans, could be seen or heard. They were alone.

“Everyone, lets regroup. We’re not out of the woods, yet.” Hakuren spoke, smiling as always. Strolling towards one of the trees, he had noticed that Lesley was lifelessly draped over a branch, and had taken an interest in whether or not the rainbow-lover was still with them. Panter was still breathing, but certainly did not seem like an early bird. Pressing the moon of his staff against their face from below, the ice magician asked “Oi, Lesley? A rainbow’s supposed to rise and shine.”

Just how long this pink-haired individual could stand this freezingly cold pillow and the cold that was being unconsciously emitted from Hakuren was questionable, yet the green-blue-eyed man knew it would not take too long.

Thankfully, Victoria agreed to her request and lowered her whip down to the desperate, uncoordinated Jasper. Grabbing onto the rope like structure, she wrapped it around her wrist a couple of loops as support, proving itself useful as it caught her, whenever she managed to slip on the uneven rock aperture, which happened rather frequently. Anyone below was more than likely getting pebbles and rock dust all over their face from the many times her foot slid off of stony holds, grainy, sediment erosion blowing off and settling down to others after her every single time. The task of climbing was surprisingly not very tiring for her, since she didn't have to lift much weight to move up a step, it was just the fact that her hand eye positioning was terrible. Leon on the other hand, was definitely not having any trouble at all. He scaled on ahead without much trouble, given he was utilizing his staff's latent advantages.

Jasper looked at his bottom from a couple meters beneath and admired his creativity. She had a staff as well, but was too afraid to put weight pressure on the wooden object for fear of snapping it in half. Instead, she had the rod secured diagonally across her back with a strap holding it to her torso.

'136. 137.' Jasper was mentally counting each ascending of her palm, the hold above was about to be her one hundred thirty-eighth grab. Everyone looked pooped out by now, many sweating and red faced from the work out. What made it less entertaining was that no one was really talking much because they were all so focused on staying glued tightly to the mountain wall. although some more comfortable humans were commenting and making small talk here and there, it was overall a "on the down low" kind of trip.

Boring would've been the perfect word to describe it, but Jasper thought too fast when out of nowhere, the guides started freaking out and telling them to get to the cave up top. Not quite sure what was going on, all she did was start to panic and frantically tried to make her way there. The weather was flipped upside down from an almost windless calm afternoon to a gusty rumbling. Jasper lost her holds on the rock wall and was hanging solely on Victoria's whip. Different wolves representing various elements would flash on and out of sight, snarling and threatening them. Next thing Jasper knew, she was tumbling southbound towards her awaiting death?

Consciousness surged back into her limp figure, sprawled over and sandy field. Forestry lessened the lethality of her impact, leaving her with a large cut on the rib cage, but luckily it was just near the surface, enough to bleed a little more that it should, but not fatal. Her vision was watery and white tinged, but she could feel warmish liquid at her fingertips. Turning her head to the side, she saw a small pool of blood, with a red head sitting up looking spooked. The bodily fluids seemed to be streaming from Riley, who she know fully recognized as her eyesight came into focus. Crawling forward, her own cut healed itself, the amulet around her neck, glowing lightly. Reaching for Riley, she held the girl's hand and closed her eyes, channeling healing energy into any injuries that the girl might've taken during the fall. By the time she was finished, her liquid drained a bit, but Riley looked alright, just really disoriented.

Each time Zephy banged on a crystal, the dark cave would be illuminated by a soft blue glow.

Harper trailed after the others, sword strapped to his back and eyes darting to and fro. He was terrified and each shadow looked far more sinister than it should have. None of them knew the way out and neither did their guide. The only thing they could do was keep pushing forward.

They marched on until they entered a giant chamber, there was a pool of water and it lit up the room with a glow similar to that of the crystals. "This is beautiful..." Harper muttered as he stared into the water. He could see all sorts of fishes below, some more frightening than others.

Zephy went ahead to scout the surroundings and not long after they heard a loud. "Clear!"

There weren't any monsters in this part of the cave, but there didn't seem to be a way out either. "Hey...do any of you see a way out?" Harper began scrambling onto a couple of rocks. The boy scanned his surroundings and noticed a ledge by a couple of giant mushrooms, farther up ahead there was a faint glow. "I think there might be a path somewhere up there." He stated before pointing towards the mushrooms.

"We can use them to get onto the ledge." He hopped off the boulder he was on and made his way there.

Harper planted a foot on one of the bigger mushrooms and smiled when it proved strong enough to carry his weight. He took another step onto an even bigger one only for the ground beneath him to shake. The mushroom was growing?

The boy yelped and fell onto his back. What the poor guy saw next nearly gave him a heart attack.

Quickly, he rolled out of the way and a few seconds later, giant claws embedded themselves into the soil. If he had been a second too late...that thing would have gutted him. "G-Guys!" The amulet on his neck grew brighter and before he knew it he was on his feet. The boy unsheathed his sword expertly and when the monster reached out to swipe at his face, he swung his sword in an upward arc and sliced through its hand.

"Gosh..." Harper stood frozen in terror and watched as the severed hand writhed on the damp cave floor.

The monster let out a hiss, but it didn't seem fazed. The vines on its arm began to regenerate and when Harper looked up the creature had both its hands back. It smiled, revealing a crooked row of pointy teeth. The vines from the mushroom monster's back snaked towards the boy and grabbed him by his ankles. It yanked him up into the air as if he weighed nothing and Harper dangled helplessly before he was thrown into the water.

"Ssssshhhhhh" It hissed. The thing's eyes glowed like yellow flashlights and with incredible speed it rushed towards Inadi, Leila, and Ace, both claws pulled back and ready to strike when the time was right.

She felt light headed and things looked blurry.

The girl squinted her eyes at the figure who had approached her. She couldn't find her voice, but she recognized the blurry figure...it was Jasper, wasn't it? The girl felt a cold sensation wash over her and suddenly the pain began to ebb away. She took in a breath of air and propped herself on her elbows. Riley still felt a bit woozy but she managed to get onto legs that felt like jelly. "T-Thanks," the girl sounded exhausted. She looked down at her bloodstained clothes and winced, wondering if she could have died. It scared her, the thought of dying in Nowhere but after a few moments of silence, she shrugged it off and gave Jasper the biggest grin she could muster.

"I think you just saved my life." She placed both her hands on Jasper's shoulders and nearly sent the both of them tumbling to the ground when a sharp pain shot through her side. Okay, the wound was closed but sudden movements still ended up hurting her. "Ow...ow," she made a face, "ouch...okay...okay, I'm good...you just saved my life. You're now a hero!" Riley took a step back and noticed she had left two bloody hand prints on the healer's robe. "Oh jeez, I'm sorry." Riley rushed forward in an attempt to dust Jasper off but wound up doubled over, her hands resting on her knees.

"Owwww, okay! Okay! I've learned my lesson!" The girl shouted to the holy Celery above. "I will obey the guides! Gah!" The girl leaned against a tree for a few moments then straightened up slowly. "Seriously, thank you Jasper. I like living, so I'm really thankful." Riley looked around and peered at their surroundings. "By any chance did you see any of the others? I was too busy freaking out about death and stuff," she shrugged, the silly grin never leaving her face. "It'd be a good idea if we regrouped, right? We should go find them."
