Noble Arms Plot Summaries

Mission One Summary: Defend Lingayen Gulf

The picture is that of Lingayen Beach, where the PCs will have their first IC action. They will not be given time to prepare or talk much outside of flashbacks (yes, I know, heresy), but rather will be placed on the beach from the get-go. Their mission would be to defend against two waves of Chinese attacks; the first made up of conventional forces and the second made up of Arms Masters (never outnumbering the OCs). To win this, and make no mistake, you *can* win, you are going to have to play things smart and conserve your energy in the first wave to have enough for the second wave.

You will not be alone; you have 2000 Philippine Marines and 20,000 Philippine Army Infantry helping you guys, supported by South Korean K136 Rocket Artillery, ATMO S2000 self-propelled howitzers, and Elbit Sabrah Tracked tanks. There are also Helicopters.

Intermission One: The First Arms Master (Set on September 30 2022).

The OCs, including Lotus Squadron, Kaitlyn, and any Non-Arms Masters, are grouped into a Special Task Force, with Noel (my OC and the only eligible one for command) as its nominal head. As Lingayen City rebuilds, they are to spend the next two weeks helping rebuild the city, hunting down Chinese stragglers and infiltrators, and eventually, resting and relaxing. At the start of said two weeks, however, some of them would receive news from Great Britain: The origin of all Noble Arms has been revealed to the world, and it is from an unexpected source - A man thought dead for 68 years, Alan Turing, a man has who now revealed himself to be The First Arms Master, the reason for Noble Arms' existence, and who despite his 'posthumous' pardon back in 2013, is *not* coming back to Great Britain just yet until Humanity as a whole has cleaned up their acts...

You guys can react to the news however you want, and rest and relax after that.

Mission Two Summary: The Siege of Mischief Reef (Revised)

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mischief_Reef

Mischief Reef/Đá Vành Khăn/Panganiban Reef, an island closer to the Philippines than to China yet occupied and enlarged by the latter, has been seized by a third faction, a group of defectors from China calling themselves the 'Qing Restoration Society'. Led by their New Emperor, a young boy who nevertheless has an A-Rank Noble Arm that can control water, the QRS has driven out the Chinese and devastated the nearby People's Liberation Navy groups in the Spratlys, allowing ASEAN an opening. Your mission, Arms Masters, is to relieve and resupply Mischief Reef before the Chinese counterattack ends the prospect of a new Qing Dynasty; a flotilla of Filipino and Indonesian Ships will try and run the Chinese Blockade with the Arms Masters of Task Force Obsidian in tow.

However, even after landing, all will not be well, as the Chinese will be sending a special strike force: Their own 'Foreign Volunteer Brigade', composed of former terrorists who hate the current world order more than they hate each other! Led by Mei Yuanuyan, an Anti-Arms Master terrorist who had grown her own Noble Arm, these Volunteers also have their own cunning, bloody-minded ferocity, and above all, a willingness to bring down the pain...

The ASEAN flotilla is composed of 2 Jose Rizal-class frigates, 1 Pohang-class Corvette, and 2 Del Pilar-class patrol vessels from the Philippines, 2 Nagpasa-class submarines, 2 Martadinata-class frigates, 3 Bung Tomo-class corvettes, and 4 Clurit-class Missile Boats from Indonesia, as well as 2 Auxiliary ships filled with supplies. Lotus Squadron will also be flying from Antonio Bautista Air Base in Palawan Island to support all of you by clearing the skies for your transport plane.

Intermission Two: Ghosts of Angeles City

After a victorious second mission, Task Force: Obsidian has been redeployed from Lingayen to rest and recuperate in Angeles City, where a luxury hotel has been set aside for their use, and their stay is fully paid. Relatively untouched by the Chinese bombardment and air war, Angeles City is filling up with refugees, many of who are being victimized by various fraudsters and criminals, while at the same time, there is a rumor going around that the American-Asian mixed-race community in the city, descended from American military personnel back when the Americans owned the historical Clark Air Base, are to blame for the Chinese Invasion. However, the remaining malls, casinos, and luxury businesses do care not for that, and so the party faces a choice: Involve themselves, or enjoy a chance at the high life?

Update: A player I asked to play an antagonist decided to cause a mini zombie-apocalypse (well, rage virus, as the 'zombies' are still alive) in Angeles City, which the other PCs managed to cure. That player who played an antagonist then decided to leave due to IRL stuff.

Mission Three: Assault on Jinghong Dam

Before the ASEAN War, the Chinese built a dam to control the flow of the Mekong River and generate power for its people, as well as to exert a means of influence over the neighboring countries downstream, the ASEAN members Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, and the furthest south of Vietnam. Now that the conflict has started, China has slowed down the flow of water to a trickle, raising fears of drought while increasing their supply of electricity for their war effort. Even worse, the Chinese have placed PoW camps in the floodplains below the dam to deter airstrikes. Your goals, Arms Masters and Ordinary Folk are to evacuate the PoWs and then destroy the dam.

Mission Four: Knives in Phnom Penh (Current Mission)

Recent stories of war crimes and crimes against humanity (such as those found at Jinghong Dam) have soured relations between NATO and the PRC from averse to outright economic sanctions. Cut off from food imports and certain raw resources, Chinese embassies have reached out to each member of ASEAN to establish rules of engagement between the combatants. Only half of ASEAN members have returned the PRC's calls: Laos, Cambodia, Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia, and Burma. Malaysia reports an impasse; the rest have (until now) kept discussions private.

During these three weeks, King Norodom Socheata of Cambodia passed away under suspicious circumstances. The United States has shared intel that unknown members of the Downward Descent were in Phnom Penh during this time, though no linkage to the king's death can be found. In reaction, the Kingdom of Cambodia has officially closed its borders until the death can be confirmed as natural causes.

The newly elected king, His Majesty Sisowath Samnang, has reopened borders and announced that the suspect, one Keo Chantrea, has been caught and executed. He further reports breakthroughs regarding Chinese negotiations, as confirmed by Laos. The Kingdom subsequently invites the PRC and its ASEAN allies to a parley in Phnom Penh. The Downward Descent has not departed Cambodia to our knowledge, so, in addition to amplifying personal protection, the Philippines has requested the presence of the Philippine Navy's Arms Masters to safeguard the talks.

Update: The Cambodian Government decided to betray ASEAN, defect to China, and have the Royal Cambodian Army attack the Peace Conference they called, but several of their people decided this was a bad idea and stayed loyal to ASEAN or turned neutral. Now Phnom Penh is at war, with the Cambodian Government bringing in Russian and Venezuelan mercenaries and Iranian Shaeeed Drones to bomb their own people who stayed loyal to ASEAN or had second thoughts.

Intermission Four: Darkest Hour

Laos and portions of Cambodia defected to China's side after the Downward Descent caused talks between the Chinese and ASEAN to collapse, with many of the latter's secrets lost to the former with Laos (and parts of Cambodia's) defection. Now, Thailand and Vietnam are cut off from each other, even as the PLA Navy embarks on a new major offensive. Task Force Obsidian has escaped but at the cost of their First Lieutenant, who is now in the hands of their enemy.

Now, after finding refuge in Trinidad Academy, Manila's prime institute for training Arms Masters to fight alongside normal cadets (no, it's not a Spartan Training Program), the Task Force has to make a decision: Rescue their commanding officer from enemy captivity, tackle one of the many fronts in the ongoing war... Or give up and disband, falling apart in grief.

If they choose to stay, they will receive revelations about the nature of Noble Arms and Alan Turing's role in their creation and the functioning of the Occult Programming Language.

La Trinidad de Manila Academy - 12/1/2022, 5:20, UTC+8

Far Eastern University In Real Life; the location and structures are used for La Trinidad de Manila in this timeline for convenience

Myron Makraig knew how to make deals with devils, or in this case, a very mysterious person whose secrecy could be mistaken for shadiness. Right now, Director Bathala of La Trinidad de Manila had taken Task Force Obsidian in after it had suffered its first and worst defeat, while Rear Admiral Adrian Absolo and NICA (National Intelligence Coordinating Agency) head Cornelio Malong had been tasked with managing the renewed Chinese offensive.

Director Bathala had been clear on one thing from the start: This was not free, and he would have his due once the team had licked its wounds enough and acquired the minimum of new members needed to be functional again. And he already suspected what the Director would require - After all, the Philippine Government of National Salvation would not exist without him.

The green lawns of Trinidad Academy were devoid of most students and faculty, leaving them deserted except for maintenance staff that picked fruit from the mango and guava trees in the gardens to feed the refugees that congregated outside the facilities. Myron had observed this because he was walking to the dormitory buildings that had been given to Task Force Obsidian with a message from the Director; he wanted to meet all of them in the Trinidad Academy Auditorium.

So Myron Makraig, the highest-ranking remaining member of Task Force Obsidian, went to the dormitory building, La Casarita, which was more lavishly furnished than most other University dorms due to its closeness to the ruins of Malcanang Palace, where the 'Assassin President' who had used a loophole in the Philippine Constitution to get himself elected Vice President in recent elections, then bumped off the President-Elect so he can become President again (this had the approval of the President-Elect's sister and mother, by the way)... Well, let's just say that the 'Assassin President' was dead and so were his accomplices, and the Philippine Government of National Salvation ran things now.

In La Casarita, the members of Task Force Obsidian had been given time, space, and psychological help, as well as the option to take regular trips to Trinidad Academy and its high-tech training facilities, which included a reinforced arena for Arms Master duels and a firing range. The Director had also kept them appraised of the ongoing Chinese offensive against the Philippines and the rest of ASEAN; long story short, it was not going well for either side.

In the Philippines, a Chinese Spy who had infiltrated the islands acquired citizenship through fraudulent means, and even become the Mayor of the town of Bamban, Tarlac Province, had mustered a militia in support of China. This 'Chinese Spy Mayor' had to be attacked by Philippine Special Forces at great cost, even as the 'Assassin President's' daughter in Davao City in Mindanao was throwing dozens of local hired thugs against PGNS machine guns in hopes the survivors would trigger a Noble Arm. Not just that, but in Manila itself, a plan had been discovered to murder the Mayor of Manila to destabilize the defenses of the city with her death.

But all that paled before what Myron believed Director Bathaha was about to reveal, because he knocked on the doors of each dormitory room, telling each member of Task Force Obsidian that they should go to the Trinidad Academy Auditorium with him immediately.

Because he knew that the Director was a sapient Noble Arm, one who got his sapience by having eaten several other Noble Arms before his Master died - And this man was the only one who could provide them an edge against the Big Three and Alan Turing himself...

Jaina Dalton

All right, she was mad at the interruption, but also excited at having a worthy opponent at last!

Back-flipping herself down onto the ground, landing on her feet, she began gathering her Memory God Slaying Magic around her hands once more, before shouting, "I am Jaina Dalton, Princess of Snaervold, Wizardess of Fenix Tear and Daugther of the Sea! Flee now or be drowned in it!"

Ignorant folk have always feared the sea, due to generations of dread that formed a collective memory filled with monsters, drowning, and a vast blue expanse of nothing at all for miles around. Jaina tapped into this collective memory to amplify the dread those who heard her felt, her contempt for those who gave themselves over to their fear of saltwater flicking out like a whip when it would otherwise be held back by courtesy, etiquette and respect - None of whom this brigade had earned.

Seawater began to seep up from the floor, rising upward to shin-length, the salt smell permeating the area and mixing with the coppery tang of blood as Jaina continued her outraged speech.

"You who fear the source of your bounty, you who live beside the source of a fear you do not wish to overcome, clinging to your cowardice to the point where you fear Vampires less than she who has granted you the fruits of food, commerce, and the salt used for both - And all because of what? You cling like babies to your mothers when faced with storms and sea monsters?"

The seawater stirred beneath them, awakening the primal memory of the sea, carried by harsh winds that brought the salt to their noses, even as Jaina's words reverbrated with even more outrage.

"I do not detest cowards. I do not even detest willful cowards. But who I do detest are those who would deny their cowardice in the face of the source of their own rewards!"

The seawater rose up into tendrils, even as Jaina opened up a Memory Manipulation Vortex, not to erase or even extract memories, but to enhance them, to ensure that they would not forget their fear of the sea, and to make it clear that their contempt for it was echoed so many times over that it was irrelevant.

"Memory God Slayer Magic - Memory Manipulation Vortex! Seawater Magic, Grasping Tidal Horror!"

The tendrils of water would hold the foe in place if the saltwater seeping into their gear had not already done that (Jaina was immune and she also made any nearby books immune; knowledge was sacred). The Memory Manipulation Vortex would remind them of their fear, amplifying it to extreme levels. And if they did not overcome this fear, the tendrils of saltwater would drag them down into the rising seawater... And they will drown.

Mikazuki Nakajima

Mikazuki asked a simple question, "What was the Soul War? And to echo Darius' question... What are Hollows? And are they more than just monsters that eat souls? I presume you didn't tell us about their nature before because you wanted to vet us for trustworthiness first?"

The Road to Bruma

The Orange Road; Imagine that its Summer, please...

The Confessor had decided to accept Kiffar's proclamation of leadership (albeit with Arvind being the real leader) and sent the group off on their way once breakfast was done; Khaliya and Meen-la could seperately sense her increasing desire not to be around the people she herself gathered, but who proved to be strong personalities she did not want to see in constant friction, but that would not alter the fact that she approved of the most viable plan. That plan was to pose as Arvind's scholarly expedition, and the Confessor had given them extra cash, plus a few scholarly texts on Talos and the nearby Ayleid ruins to better maintain their cover (and also to speed them onward).

Now the group was on the Orange Road, walking the paved, narrow path that led from Chorrol to Bruma as the sun rose in the sky.

Several hours passed; it was noonrise/noonday and the sun was at its midpoint. Birdsong and the noise of various animals had grown quiet for a minute or so - An obvious sign of trouble ahead. They were passing through an even narrower stretch of road when it struck - A volley of arrows launched from the trees at point-blank range, intended to scatter the group or force them to cast their protective spells.

Once the arrows were cast, several Nord and Imperial Bandits would charge, wielding a mix of two-handed swords, heavy maces, and greataxes, not realizing that they were running towards one of the best fighters in all of Tamriel (Kiffar). And finally, there was a Nord dressed in robes from the College of Winterhold with the insignia torn out; this blonde woman looked at Arvindr and said, "Arvindr! I want your research on the predecessors of the Companions and the origins of Whiterun and I want it now!"

The scholar would recognize this Nord woman as one of his more obscure rivals, Brigit of Winterhold, who resented Arvindr's constant hawking of the 'Original Nord Culture' despite being a Mage who researched similar topics herself. Her latest ploy was writing several public letters accusing Arvindr of being a plaigraist - of her research - and the unhinged tone of her wording implied that she had begun to genuinely believe her own lies.

This was confirmed when she said, "You copied my papers! That bibiliography you used in your latest one had a third of it copied from my own listed sources! Give me back my academic placement, you fraud, or I will keep siccing these bandits on you!"
