Current I think watching fight scenes can help in general terms with writing combat, since it can give you an idea of flow and choreography.

At least if you're writing something you know, with knights.
I mean, depends on what you're writing, and the tone and theme of what you're writing. Trained armored knights were legitimately monstrous on the battlefield, so looking up how they fought helps.

As much as there's a lot of reasons twitter sucks, I genuinely don't want to see it die for the sake of all the artists who now rely on it. Hoping the shithead stops trying to directly administrate.

She didn't want to let it be destroyed.

This was different then it was in Land's End. This was somewhere where the destruction could be stopped, right?

Lily's feet barely touched the ground. It was like two arms had wrapped around her, carrying her through the forest with far greater speed then she could have managed on her own.

Silva's spirit didn't just fight, after all.

The wind whipping past her, Lily could feel her heart beating quicker and quicker once again. She could smell it. The fire. She could hear shouting.

It was scary.

But she wanted to help. She wanted to prevent the destruction of the village the siblings had come from.

She couldn't just let it happen. It wasn't enough just to help them survive, at least not in the small girl's mind.

When she saw it, her heart nearly stopped for a moment.

It wasn't the death and destruction. She'd seen worse.

It was the fact that this place was being actively destroyed. The fact that the lives of the people who lived there were being brought to an end before her eyes.

She couldn't understand why.

The Blight wasn't here. There were no monsters such as that.

So why...?

Why...?

...

There were monsters, though. Not quite what she was used to, but the soldiers who were advancing on the townsfolk, drawing out those terrible screams, setting fire to the buildings...

The figure that materialized beside her was enormous, a hulking man standing head and shoulders above even the tallest of the Raven Heralds, a horned helm atop his head and a huge mace gripped in one hand.

His form blurred, streams of red coming off of his body as he barreled into the nearest concentration of Raven Heralds. One enemy soldier was brought down and crushed by the sheer ferocity of his charge, another was practically blown apart by a single swing of the enormous man's massive weapon.

A blow from his fist sent a Raven Herald flying, bowling over his fellows and interrupting their attempts to execute the villagers or target Sanae.

Lily clasped her hands together. Her spirits, her friends and her... they'd do everything they could to save the village!

Ultima Universal Himinbjord Base

The EINHERJAR forces tore through the first wave of Ultima Universal's defenses. Mobile Armors selected for their lowest bidding price over any practical combat considerations stood no chance against the barrage of grenades, missiles, and gunfire raining down on them. Barely any were able to get a shot off in response, with only the last few managing some sporadic bursts of inaccurate gunfire before they were silenced completely.

By now, only a blind and deaf person wouldn't be able to tell the base was under attack, and alarms began to sound all over the base. The team assaulting Himinbjord Base came into range of the complex's turrets. Though the squad had eliminated two of the heavy cannons, four still remained, along with the light railgun, all sprinkled around the base. These five turrets all began locking on to the intruders, acquiring firing solutions. Meanwhile, VALKYRIE managed to pick up some of the opfor's communications, forwarding them to the squad to keep them alerted.

<<"All units, mobilize immediately! Keep the intruders bogged down for the artillery to take out! Someone get me an ID on these bastards, I want to know who we're up against!">>

<<"XIFF reads unaffiliated, sir. Independents, probably mercenaries.">>

<<"God damn it, ready my mech! Start warming up the special project, we need all hands on deck for this!">>

As if on cue, a second wave of MAs launched from the base's hangers and garages, already opening fire on the various AUGs attacking. Their accuracy was middling at best, and the caliber of rounds light compared to AUG weaponry, but enough careless scratches could still seriously threaten an EINHERJAR's armor integrity. By now, the heavy cannons also finished locking on, and unleashed their first salvo against the attacking force, capable of doing severe damage should their payloads hit on target.

-

The thunder-like sound of one of the heavy cannons roaring to life signaled its kinetic load was hurtling towards Valika.

But there was no way she was going to get hit!

She could almost feel it, as she jerked the joystick to the side. Even inside of the protective layers of armor that sealed her machine's innards from the outside world, the girl could practically feel the wind whipping past her, the impact of the round as it buried itself in the moon's surface some distance behind them, likely halfway disintegrated.

It was. to be frank, exhilarating. But she wasn't just a thrill junky, not by a longshot.

Those cannons had to go.

Plus, they had to worry about the base commander's machine and the rest of the reinforcements. That meant that there was a pretty obvious priority target for her and MORDRED.

"Redknight here!" she said, twisting the sticks to evade the targeting systems of the Heavy Cannons, "Can you keep them off me? I'm going to take down those heavy cannons, they won't know what hit them!"

Ultima Universal Communications Array

The racket over communications were certainly playing hell for the defense squad, especially given the fact that so many of them had been torn to shreds. Cheap, mass-produced MAs were never going to be the biggest threat to any well-maintained AUGs, which meant the cannons were by far the most dangerous threat. While the one that had gotten a direct hit near the base by a high explosive seemed like it was out of commission, the others were up and kicking.

Fire splashed across their frontal armor, as a low-pitched whine gradually grew in volume. Those that were still functional were picking their targets.

And that wasn't all, as a heavy blast door opened from one of the building near the comes array.

Most of the time, MAs were always going to be inferior in armor and weaponry compared to an AUG.

However...

The Arthropod line was different.

Slow, certainly. Lacking in maneuverability, of course. But the six legs and the nonhumanoid shape counted for something, as the bulky machine strode out, a heavy laser cannon mounted on its back with a number of smaller turrets lining its sides.

@Sanity43217: Oh my god you've been so patient I am so sorry.

After a quick look I think he's good to go. So, so sorry for how long this took.
The little girl started in confusion, slowly glancing over her shoulder. What was everyone looking at?

She didn't understand.

But then, suddenly, the back of her tanktop bulged. Her eyes widened in shock and fear, something surging from beneath her clothing. It was a slimey, amorphous thing, two eyes flowing up is jel-like form and fixing on the surrounding operatives, glancing back and forth before it produced a single long gelatinous arm.

"Tch, and I thought getting away from that monster was hard enough already," came a rough, masculine voice from the oozing, amorphous demon. When the girl let out a cry of fright, its gooey limb suddenly sharpened into a point, directly aiming towards her throat.

"Alright, demon hunters. Let's make a deal," the creature said, "You let me go, and I don't spill her blood all over this shop. Got it?"

The gel-like demon's shape bulged out from behind the girl, seething and twisting. If not for the child's presence, it likely would have been an easy target.

But that was certainly what it was counting on, one of its drifting eyes looking behind it as the other fixed forward.

Another heavy crunch.

Before the Raven Heralds could retreat, another of their number fell, the hammer having shattered the bones in the soldier's neck and caved in his skull through his helmet.

Silva lowered her hammer, then faded, the crimson-white orb of light that constituted the forms of Lily's friends when they chose to be dormant.

Lily's heartbeat stopped hammering quite so quickly, now that the immediate danger was gone. But she was surprised when the Umbral Knight chose to manifest once more, turning to address the assembled outsiders as they did.

"Those 'Raven Heralds'... they're returning to these childrens' village, aren't they?" the knight commented.

Lily stared for a moment, then quickly realized what this meant. If the enemy soldiers were so determined to hurt the siblings, then that meant wherever they came from was in just as much danger.

Her eyes traveled over the corpses left behind by the brief clash for a moment. Realizing where she was looking, the Umbral Knight quietly moved to interpose themselves between Lily and the scattered bodies.

"... It's your decision, Lily," they said, gently, kneeling beside her, "There's no need to push yourself."

It wasn't as if she hadn't seen dead bodies before. She'd seen plenty, even if the Umbral Knight didn't think she needed to see any more.

No, more than anything else, she wanted to keep helping the siblings.

Her gaze traveled back up to the Umbral Knight, and she nodded.

She'd seen far too much destruction to let it happen if there was still a chance of stopping it.

"Very well," responded the Umbral Knight, rising to their feet once again.

"We've ensured their survival, but to ensure they have somewhere to return to, we have to give chase," the Umbral Knight addressed the others, "Will anyone else accompany us?"

She couldn't believe her eyes.

But there was no denying it.

Of course, it wasn't as if she was unaware of the process through which fossil Pokemon could be revived as living examples of their species. It wasn't exactly a common, everyday thing, but no-one with any knowledge of extinct Pokemon would be unaware of the fact it was a possibility.

Still, knowledge of the process and actually seeing it were two different things entirely.

Beyond that, not just seeing one alive, but also... also...

This Tyrunt was hers! It was her partner!

Sophie thought she'd never have a Pokemon of her own, even when her health had reached a point where it was at least likely she'd have a normal lifespan. And certainly, she was aware that she'd have a Pokemon after she was approved to be part of this project, but knowing it was going to happen and the actual experience were entirely different.

On top of that, the fact it's a Tyrunt...!

As soon as she'd actually gotten her into the Pokeball, she immediately let her back out again. It was for the best, really, not just because she wanted to get a good look at a living, breathing Tyrunt, but also because the aforementioned Pokemon seemed quite miffed about being put inside a Pokeball in the first place.

She'd have to think of a name. She had to.

But first...

"Thank you!"

Sophie called out to Professor Camphor, waving her hands in the air.

"Thank you thank you thank you! She's beautiful! She's awesome!"

The small girl gestured excitedly to her Tyrunt, who appeared to pick up on the fact she was being praised almost immediately and went from the nearest thing it could manage to a pout to practically radiating smug energy.

"Did you know?! Did you know?! Did you know that Tyrunt already has sufficient bite force to tear through a car, even at this juvenile stage?! Also, the muted colors are theorized to help young Tyrunts better blend into the surroundings to avoid danger and, for older Tyrunts, ambushing their prey! Ah, and did you know it's likely that Tyrauntrum in the wild was a social predator?! And did you know-"

If someone didn't stop her, it was likely she'd collapse from sheer enthusiasm.

"Proud? Of course," Elroy responded, still smiling, "I'm not even sure if our parents could be more proud of Velvetica."

This, too, gave Velvetica pause. Her inspiration to pursue swordplay, to pursue her path as the Steel Princess, had been because of her elder brother. To hear those words come out of the mouth of the man she almost idolized momentarily stole her ability to speak.

It took her a few moments to clear her through and speak again, unconsciously holding the knightly frog plush against her chest as she did.

"Well, I am quite pleased to hear your profession of loyalty," she began, swiftly dodging every other topic that had been discussed to avoid any further awkward pauses, "It is only suitable, though you are not among the military forces of the Lions, that you have committed yourself to our cause. I'm glad to know that I can count upon you for the sake of Velt and its people."

Of course, internally, she was hardly unaware of who she was speaking to. She did not assume Lirrah to be a boldfaced liar, but she was a merchant. And a merchant wanted to build a relationship with their clients to maximize profits. It wasn't something she begrudged the nem for, far from it. Rather, it was something to be aware of. To understand that Lirrah's commitment was to the option that would earn her more librans rather then simply loyalty to the Hraesleg name.

Still, the nem's conduct had thus far suited her fine, and there was little reason to reject it.

"So, my little sister resembled the Lady of the Sun, hm?" Elroy commented, "I suppose that does suit her, doesn't it?"

While she idolized her elder brother, that didn't stop her from questioning that comment. Normally she would gladly take such praise as to be compared to the Goddess of the Sun, for whom justice was paramount, but his tone struck her as somewhat playful.

"Exactly what do you mean by that, elder brother?" Velvetica asked, an eyebrow raised.

"Oh? Can't you figure it out?"

@Octo

"Hm?"

Ah, so this was the viewpoint of an assassin. She didn't have explicit knowledge of exactly what the Crownsblades had been party to prior to their near total destruction, but it was plenty reasonable to assume that their operations had been rather less forward in nature. Focused on striking at quieter, more internal enemies then those without. Provided that they were enemies of Velt, and its people, Velvetica had little issue with such objectives.

Those who threatened Velt's stability and the peace of its citizens were not those who garnered her sympathies.

However...

"Well, my enemies are far more open, and far more straightforward, then you are perhaps accustomed to," she responded, leaning forward in her seat, "My opponents are of a military nature, rather then those who work in the shadows."

Her elbows rested on her desk.

"But that doesn't mean I won't require your skills as an assassin," she continued, "Pinpointing an enemy commander ahead of time gives me quite an opportunity, after all, to shatter the enemy's morale and remove their leadership. A troublesome mage makes for the perfect target, as well."

Using an assassin to remove problematic or high-value targets made perfect sense to her, and she had little attention of using Kayliss's skills for any other purpose.

"Architecture?" asked Liletta, incredulously, "I'm the Hraesleg family's mage, do I look like I have particular experience in architecture?"

It was clear she hadn't the faintest idea of why that question had come up in the first place. Why would she know how to build a cottage? On top of that, she'd already been in a bad mood because of the do-

Anisette's tongue was sticking out as Gisela patted her head.

"... Tch..."

Liletta's glare sharpened.

"Fine, if you want to be a bratty little child," she glared at the doll, who folded her arms and looked away, "All I was trying to do was learn more about you. That doll is completely impossible to work with. She came from a Witch? I'm not surprised in the slightest."

@Raineh Daze@Eisenhorn
Fio could already feel the heat from here.

There was no doubt what the dragon was about to do.

Fine. She'd blow it up right in the beast's face.

"Sura!"

The magical energy she had been channeling to form her second barrage of blades twisted, the half-formed swords dissolving and twisting inwards.

Then it spread, expanding, reforming and sliding outwards into the shape of circular barrier, diamond patterns spread across its lumisncet blue surface, reaching towards its hexagonal edges.

"Intercede!"

Flicking her blade forwards, the barrier rushed forward as well, thrusting itself directly into the serpentine dragonkin's face. It was unlikely it would be harmed by its own flames, but a faceful of fire certainly wouldn't be good for it either.

"Reinforce! Reinforce reinforce reinforce!"

And that wasn't all. Each cry of reinforce poured further mana into the barrier, strengthening it again and again. She'd maintain it, shut down the dragonkin's fiery breath, and leave it open for a counterattack!
